What are thoughts once the finals start, that in the 2nd week the 2 qualifying final winners in divvy 1 play the 2 winners in divvy 2 in practice matches so to speak rather than have no game, then the teams knocked out each week of finals play in classification games say for 15 & 16th,7th & 8th in week 2 of finals then 5th & 6th/13th & 14th in week 3 then 3 & 4th/11 & 12th on gf day, just to keep the interest alive a little longer.

also agree with others, last round has become a joke, make the gf the 2nd last round of season,i personally did well because had 2 trades remaining for all the last 6 rounds but i can see why it just kills others seasons

If that isn't the biggest load of dribble I've read this year. Worlds longest sentence.

I'd like to see a longer AFL season, but no preseason comp, just clubs arrange friendlies through themselves, not compulsory, but worth the match practice. So you want to get in early so your not left playing Port. ;)
Also a knockout comp where the top 16 teams from the year before play each other.

That'll be my ideal season. :)

Isn't that Nab cup?

without preseason games it would make it a lot more difficult to pick DT/SC teams although it would make teams a lot more unique.

But during the season, like a FA cup style thing.

Shorter season should be the go, with everyone playing each other once that would be a fairer way for the draw to be organised

The last thing the AFL needs is a longer season. It was like pulling teeth waiting for the finals this year. Could you imagine if it carried on for another 4, 6 or ever 12 more games. Come on people there are to many shower teams each year to make it worthwhile. As ajjewell said playing each team once is the way to go. Although it will never happen.

Can anyone seriously understand what jimmytigs is talking about, I'm pretty sure he isn't talking about length of season overall. He is talking about playing nothing matches after the season finishes for some teams during finals. Like I said, dribble.

Reckon he's just bored Kia. After all he's probably been living for dreamteam over the past 6 months or so.

I do agree with you that the season doesn't need to be any longer. With the pace of the game & week to week demands more injuries would be expected along the way. With 18 teams now 17 rounds plus Nab cup should be plenty.

Why would any team/player who did not make the finals want to play in a knockout series during the finals?

Even more so, why would players who won the right to have a week off want to risk themselves in a nothing match?

These players are investments and you don't risk your investments in meaningless activities.

You thought round 24 was bad for players suffering from the general.

Sorry but I have not heard such a crazy idea in all my years as a football follower.

PowerBug

With my idea, it was just an idea. That way more players get used from each club and you get to see the talent which otherwise won't be seen.

Maybe a 17 round season with an FA Cup knockout comp, coz i think the AFL could find some cash in that. It'll be 4 weeks, so that makes the season 21 weeks, maybe a split round 22, so were are back to 2010 length. Sound good?
