GEELONG defender Marcus Drum has announced his immediate retirement from AFL football.

Drum, 24, who joined the Cats in 2010 after 22 matches over four seasons with Fremantle, did not play a senior match with Geelong.

He suffered a detached retina last season, and then was hit by an Achilles problem, although he returned to play the final four matches in the VFL.

Drum played two matches for the Cats' VFL team this season, but was injured in both. He was set to return last weekend but was prevented from playing by a hamstring injury suffered at training on Friday.

that sucks he would still have plenty of years left if he didnt keep getting injured. poor bugger
