A touch of the truth

Ziplock

I've received several queries now regarding the choice of my fanfooty name, so I thought I would just come clean and tell the truth.

My mother was a traditional American Indian from a very small and not well known tribe. The naming custom of this tribe was to name your children after the first thing you see after giving birth to them.

Due to unforeseeable circumstances, my mother ended up in Australia, pregnant with me and in hospital during labour. After giving birth to me she opened her eyes, and the first thing she saw was my older brothers empty ziplock bag in which he had been eating his sandwich from. So, I became legally named Ziplock.

However, it got worse as I grew older. My mother was not exactly sane of mind, and subsequently, until I was 12 years old she insisted that the majority of my clothing garments must come from my namesake. As of such, until I was 12 (two years after I hit puberty may I add), all I wore were ziplock bags. Fortunately, my school was insistent I wear the uniform over the top of those, which for quite lucky considering the lack of... control... I had over certain parts of myself at that age...

Now, I'm closer to 20 than 19, and I've legally changed my name to 'Luke', however, I did keep Ziplock as my middle name. It was a hard decision to do, but basically needed to be done in order to be taken seriously. Have you ever tried to apply for a job or university with the name of Ziplock? Try even ordering pizza. It's flowering hard.

In anycase, that is why you all know me as Ziplock.

Now, try to find the touch of truth in that :P
