trades - how to use them

Trades are arguably the most precious commodity in supercoach. Its only round 3 and i see alot of people sideways trading - experience tells you this is futile!

i want to list a few of my personal views on how to use trades and hope that others with experience will join in to help fanfooty members in their endeavour to take out their private leagues and possibly the 50k.

1. its ok to trade early - at max 2 trades in the first three rounds and for special considerations only.

- freak show rookie. This should forever be known as the Barlow factor. If they show massive promise, get on them. not only could they be a valuable cash cow, they are potentially a keeper.

- drop the misread: some players seem like a good idea and when the season starts their role has changed and they are going to lose you money and perform well under par. for example simon goodwin from last season. 2nd most expensive player, come round one his role was to forward tag.

2. Trade rookies who have hit their BE's for other rookies ONLY when the rookie has shown you 2 games. This will max your cash

3. use the cash to buy fallen prems. Again, when their BE is achievable and their circumstances are right... get on. Normally this is keeping your eye on players who had interupted preseasons and finding their fitness. Didak, Chapman, Lake are a few who will be below par early in 2011.

4. Come mid season you want to have over half your trades remaining. They are more valuable at the end of the season.
Players who will not be seeing finals action can get cotton wool balled anywhere from rd 18 (22 game season). you do not want to benching 500k players when there is no chance they will return.

5. come finals you want 6 trades... trade each week to ensure your team gets stronger and stronger and if you have to trade out swan due to injury/bye and he is available the next week, you dont get points for saved trades, trade him back in.

Feedback welcome, im sure everyone has a different view - this is mine. look forward to hearing what other peoples thoughts are!

agree wholeheartedly sid3bysid3. the only thing about no.3 is that if you buy a fallen premium whose B/E is finally achievable,  i quite often that player will not be able to maintain his normal averages, due to lack of fitness [preseason] . therefore you need to keep an eye on weekly B/E's and the minute he starts running out of puff trade him out. really well presented mate , i hope some of the dt novices[ and some of the more experienced ones take note. BRAVO

Cheers mate. Yeah thats a good point. Reinforces the need to keep your trades and resist those sideways trades.

Thanks for adding to the spiel... More the better

good stuff mate.
ppl are getting trigger happy! ppl just have to get on board each prem or midpricer who is performing better than what they have. i understand getting on good rookies and trading there but ppl have to remember its a 24 round season! players will have good and bad patches of form. i traded in libba for hibberd round 2, not keen on anymore trades untill head to head starts again.

Very knowledgable post just hope that some of the people on here read it and take heed of the advice, it might stop some of the threads that have been getting posted of late ;) We can only hope anyway :)

Hopefully this gets rid of some of the idiotic trade suggestions as Ajjwell said.

I agree with all of it. Trades need to be made early to correct the wrong picks like Eski or Barlow last year -- Had you gone without them you would be worse off.
The winner last year didn't make any trades in the last 4 weeks. Yet he finished with 22 premiums on field. Shows that instead of getting caught up in not trading between rounds X and Y you trade when the opportunity to get an underpriced prem arises.

But yeah good advice :)

sid3bysid3

thats interesting alex... i didnt know winner made no trades in last 4 games.

trade when you can get that prem is good. with the likes of gibbs and lake dropping in the backs i am bringing them in.

was going to get dids but he looks like getting cheaper and cheaper. thinking fyfe in after his bye will be my first move.
