Well the first edition of Cruise News is here, quite simply a space for the inhabitants of Fanatsy Football to get to know some of the coaches a little better. Questions will vary a little each time and the coach is also asked to provide an image to accompany the article. The interview is a longer read than most posts so take your time and enjoy. Feedback welcomed.

So we talked high profile for edition 1, the man who makes so much happen, FF's own statistician, yes it Ossie!

Cruise - Firstly Ossie welcome to the first ever FF Coaches interview, I thought we'd get a big name on first, you do realise you are a big name around these parts don't you?

Well, it's an honour Cruise, I've always been ground-breaking, and I think the public clearly wanted to start off with the big fish (and no, I'm not talking about Paul Salmon).  You say I'm a "big name" around these parts, and while this is true, I think it undersells my true impact on Australia, or even the world and it's incorporated moon. You see, as long as I can remember, people at sporting events cheered "Ossie, Ossie, Ossie!". At first, I was flattered, but when it started happening frequently I said something like "Oi, oi, oi! We're here to watch Australia play, not me". Of course, this only encouraged them more, and they added "Oi! Oi! Oi!", one for each Ossie. But hey, you gotta love the fans. Also, I'm modest.

Ossie I know you live in a part of the world where AFL is less prominent, how do you cope with all that league rubbish & still stay in close touch with the AFL. How many AFL games do you actually get to in a year?

Coming from Tasmania, AFL broadcasts every weekend. Some say even more so than Victoria, as we did not have to worry about delayed telecasts. So the move to Canberra was quite jarring, all this nonsense about "Raiders", "Storm" and "Dragons", where I was only interested in real football teams with names like "Magpies", "Bombers" and "Blues", though the latter could be argued is not a "real" team.

How do I cope? Well, I find other like-minded individuals on fanfooty and the occasional sane person at work, I am seriously considering getting Foxtel though. I'd say I get to about 2-3 matches per year, Canberra has 1 match a year - usually between the Swans and the Dogs - and I did manage to see the Swans/Cats match in Round 4. Unfortunately, I may not get to see my Mighty Pies this year, unless I can score a Grand Final ticket somehow. Could get more opportunities next year with the arrival of the Giants.

The FF coaching community is grateful for the many hours you have put into the Elxam Cup this year (a SC & DT fantasy football competition exclusively for those who have achieved coach status), how do you find the time and who do you think will win?
Thank you Cruise, credit must go to chrisuzz who started the whole idea rolling, and everyone else for contributing. I've been lucky this year in that work has had some unavoidable delays meaning I had time to kill, I'm paying for that now with things getting a lot more hectic, but since I enjoy the elxam League, I really don't mind the effort.

Who do I think will win? Apart from me I assume  Well Cruise, you're in for a shot no doubt. I think Junktimer has started strongly, but has had some favourable results. In Dream Team, I reckon McRooster will be hard to beat come finals. In SuperCoach, I think I'll back Prospector_1 to come from behind.

Can you name your 3 current favourite footballers & your 3 favourite of all time?

Watching Collingwood this changes on a weekly basis. In no particular order...

Scott Pendlebury - Favourite since he debuted, will be devastated if the Giants get him. I don't think they will, and should be the next Captain of Collingwood. I really rate poise under pressure, and Pendles has this in spades.

Liam Jurrah - This guy is just a treat to watch, a great story, and I think could be as good as Lance Franklin one day.

Simon Black - Despite his tendency to monster Collingwood, I think he is a one of the best the game has seen.

All time?

Well, obviously Nathan Buckley has to be right up there! Childhood hero, and outstanding every time. Other Collingwood players James Clement and Simon Prestigiacomo also rate very high as players I saw a lot of.

If you had to have a beer with 4 FF coaches who would you choose?

Geez, put me on the spot here! Have to be careful, could get charged with supplying alcohol to minors! I'd have to say you Cruiseon, Fletch74, naste, McRooster and valkorum. Reckon it would be great fun and a night to remember. Also, I can't count. Apologies to Alex, Hellopplz, and many more, but you guys are too young

Finally other than FF is there a website you use alot and think everyone should be aware of?

The League (league32.wordpress.com) is a great one  Ah, I'm fan of footywire.com for pure footy stats. Other websites? I'm a bit of tv buff, so www.imdb.com is great. Small website called Facebook could be popular also.

Thanks for your time Os.

Anytime Cruise! Thanks for the excuse to waffle, and cheers for organising this.

Well Ossie with all those drugs you were taking I was lucky to get those few words out of you. Still it's the first interview I've ever done where the interviewee insisted on being naked.
