what price will you trade in your cash cows for?
and how long will it roughly take them to get there?

im thinking about 300k

a good rule of thumb (but you don't have to follow to the hilt though) is that you generally should look at culling your cash cows when their BE is getting near their avg, for obvious reasons.

but a nice, easy way to gauge whether your cows have fattened close to their potential - unforunately i can't remember where i read or picked this up to acknowledge the source.   ???

Ideally you do it when B/E get around their avg score per round but you need to factor in the availability of rookie replacements and when byes are happening too.  Tricky stuff.  An example would be trying to trade Heppel before Ess first bye to avoid going a week w/o him.
I think availability of replacement rookie and bye timing are worth 75,000 and 30,000 respectively.  So factor that in when trading

you would normally cash in your rookies when their B/E reaches their average, as j959 said, but if they are scoring high enough why sell ? if curnows average is 90+ , say after  6 or 7 games, why would you get rid of him. unless if you neede the cash to upgrade to a chapps or the like who has bottomed out

You want guys averaging 100+ esp in midfield.  Barlow ended up going from cashcow to untradable last year but I'm not sure Curnow is quite there yet.  As we'e seen with Tapscott, they can start in a flurry but if they're not consistent then you're better off selling them.

that is a good general rule to follow but if the trade is right and they have made a substantial amount then offload them. and a very good point that if you think its a week early but another rookie is about to skyrocket then sometimes you have to unload them early, or hold on that bit extra waiting for the right downgrade

Then you won't win anyway  :P

When they're break evens are close to their average and a better player can be traded in.
There is no magic number it is on case by case...every player and team will be different.
