Is Gibbs Essential if you are going for league?

It seems like most teams will have him and any time ive posted a team on here and stated Im going for league Iv had at least some responses saying replace (usually one of Duffield and Broughton) with Gibbs. What do you think? Does it make sense to leave him out but have players like Broughton Grimes and Duffield in your backs and not have Gibbs? Or is it better balanced strategy to have him in but two of those three backs?

Any thoughts most appreciated

due to bye in sc finals, duffman or broughton will probs be better for league win, especially because freo players have a bye in multi bye rounds if going for league, go one of the freo blokes, probably broughton, more upside.

I think you have summed it up very well.  Going for a league win, Gibbs has a bye in preliminary final round, which means a trade must be kept up your sleeve for that round as $508k is too much to carry on your bench for a must win prelim final.

As I think a sideways trade is not what you want to have to factor in, I personally prefer the players you have mentioned, as all of them should score well, and being melbourne and freo players, they have the potential to play every game for you, so i would play all three ahead of gibbs, and save the trade, as i think you could make up to $200k cash from that trade, (ie a rookie priced at approx $110k, and increasing to approx $310k).

He is worth it, bye or no bye. For all we know he may get injured mid year or something and it mite not even matter.

Had Gibbo all pre season, but traded him out 2 days ago.  Hard call but I guess it depends on your overall team balance.

The Bomber

im definately picking him...the season is a long 24 rounds so you do have time to adjust....he will play well all season (or atleast he should)...and when it comes to finals im sure you can find some way to bypass it...midfields subs that sort of thing...he does have flexibility being a dual position player...

if your trading him out purely for the finals...i would not bother...

just my opinion...

League win? Just get Broughton instead.

yup, go the guy who will play 15 games max (but be avail in finals if not injured) over the guy who will play at least 20 games and score more (but miss prelim). At least go cam bruce over Gibbs... at least he plays every week.... Im all about the league win but Gibbs is too hard to pass up

How can you be sure Broughton won't play 22? You don't know. Nobody knows. So that is a ridiculous theory.

Thanks for all the thoughts everyone. Its obviously a topic that doesnt have a clear answer and thats why I posted it here in the first place. The factor would be as well that to fit Gibbs in my team it comes down to:

Gibbs Pendlebury Slyvia or Duffield Swan and Green.

Any thoughts?

thanks

Okay, can you send me the list of when players are going to miss games? Include everyone in the league. Cheers.
