Is Goddard Worth It?

there are extra trades this season plus the multi positions,,,what else are you going to use your trades for if not to upgrade your players ??
The extra 130k (say getting gibbs instead of him) can be used to upgrade a mid to a locked premium (thus saving a trade)..the mid may average 70-75..but the premium will give you 115 lets say...so there is 40 extra points...and with Gibbs you are probably only losing 20 points to goddard if that...remember Gibbs is the one who scored 190,,not goddard..
IF you are worried about captain, you should have Judd and Sandi in your team and you cant go wrong with either..
Goddard will definitely go down to 600k ...so just upgrade a hurn and a rookie to him then

I think the bigger question is: How can you ask this question???
SuperCoach is a very difficult game, but this should be one of the easier decisions - Goddard is in the prime of his career, is a super-prem who scores that way, a Captain lock & leave all year if you want, is an MPP (def/mid), and doesn't really have any question marks over him (eg. G. Ablett jnr. at GC, Chappy/Dids with injuries, etc.) - and you need at least one super-premium player with no question marks hanging over him in your team from the very start - it's hard enough finding premiums you feel are completely risk-free.
Simple answer = Y.E.S.

The best laid plans of mice and men.... All goes to hell if Goddard has a blinder and scores 190 in the first week (remember when Ablett's price rose after similar arguments?). Remember, it was Goddard, not Gibbs, you scored 18 centuries from 21 games and didn't once score below 94.

I'm not saying it won't happen, and that Goddard won't drop in price, I'm saying is that if Goddard is in your long-term plans, you should have him to begin with. Otherwise you're just playing with luck.

Upgrading is essential to this game. And targets are just that - targets. But you should be flexible. If you want to say upgrade Swallow to Montagna, but when Swallow is ready to be upgraded you find that Monty's too expensive or injured - you change your plans to upgrade to say Judd or something. MANY OPTIONS.

In the back line, if Goddard is out-of-reach or injured or unavailable for any reason, then what will you do? Hope Hurn's price doesn't decrease too much? Really aren't a huge amount of options that won't already be in your team in the backline. And if you have Goddard, and he gets injured, you can trade him for ANYBODY you want.

new year, same problems!

everyone was saying the same thing about ablett 12 months ago, he is too expensive, not worth it, will drop in price. then all of a sudden he went UP after blowing out some massive scores.

if goddard does the same thing, he will be untouchable until later in the season, and you have missed out on a LOT of points by then.

Argh... why are you all such Safe coaches ??
I don't care if he is gun, or a Super Tank !! he does not justify being 150-200k more expensive than most premium backs !!
this game is about getting 22 premiums as soon as possible into your side,,not just about one player, regardless of how many shots his GUN can fire....and with Goddard in at the start, you will get there later than you otherwise would !!

I got ablett below 600k last year, and still got in the top 2000 supercoaches easily and won every league I was in...

so stop saying that Goddard is a non negotiable...he is a GUN player yes, but his semi final performance should tell you he can have bad days as well ...

the difference is that his bad days last year were 95, everybody else had bad days in the 70s at best...

the reason that you are paying the extra money, is that he is an almost guarantee of a return on your investment. few players can match that, or even get close.

@bindas123

The fact that Goddard averaged 25.7 more than his closest rival (Lake) in the backline clearly underlines his importance. With Ablett's, its a bit different, because his average wasn't that high compared to other mids. NO PEARS.

Look at the other positions. In the centreline Goddard averaged only 0.3 more than Ablett. Another 15 players between Goddard's and Lake's average in the back.

In the forward line, Chapman averaged 7.5 more than his nearest rival. Even Sandi only averaged 21.4 more than his nearest rival.

Have to have him, no point upgrading another premium to get him, bit silly getting rid of someone who averages over 100 for any reason but injury, otherwise you''ll be waiting a while to have the cash to get him, even if he does drop. He his likely to drop 50-60k below his starting price at one point in the season but I don't think its worth waiting around for that much difference.

Agree with others, that maybe you could get by without him if you have Swan, one of the two from the start is a must. Though personally I prefer both, both Swan and Goddard are very durable and almost certain to the top two scorers this year with Ablett to drop slightly. Maybe a Montagna, Judd, Selwood, Pendlebury could score as well as these two, but thinking they will be slightly behind agian.

what the question ur meant to ask is goodard worth his coin .... the answer is yes yes yes!!! he will drop a little coin if he gets scores around the 100 mark and below but how can u go past a player that averaged 130 last year!!!!!

dmac07

How many trades will it cost to get him if you dont have him? say h drops to 600k, youd have to get rid of three rookies who have risen to 300k to get him. Surely if you are spending 400k on Hurn you will think he will up his average to 100 and be a keeper, then you are just trading one premium for another. And like others have said, he is so far ahead of his closest rival in the backs. Not one other defender is completely guranteed to average over 100! (Gibbs/Lids should, but still only a few points over on past years).

lado

The overall winner will start with him and finish with him.....
