If going for the overall win these rounds will impact you greatly.

So, how many premiums, mid pricers and starting rookies do you guys have out over these 3 rounds?

How many do you think is an acceptable level?

It's pretty scary thinking that since my starting team has 4 rookies in it, round 4 will mean I'm fielding a team with 7 rookies.

At the moment I have 8 prems & 1 starting rookie out over these rounds

Yours looks good to me.

R4- I have 4 prems out Goddard, Montagna, Riewoldt, Boyd and 1 mid price in Higgins.

R5 - I have 3 Prems in Goodes, Cox and Grimes

R6 - I have 4 Prems in Pavlich, Rioli, Sandilands, Broughton and also 1 rookie in mzungu.

Overall 11 prems 1 mid price and 1 rookie - so doesnt look good at all but alot of people will be in a similar position and i thinks its a bit unknown how much of an effect it will have.

Alot of the good premium players come from these teams that have the byes in those rounds.

Even alot of the other options i looked at fell into these teams.

For an overall win IMO, you need to minimise the premiums missing fro these rounds. I believe if you can minimise them to 3 then you're doing really well, but it will be very hard.

OK, this time you name yours first!

I was just after a number but if we're naming them then that's cool.

R4 - 3 premiums (Goddard, Cross, Riewoldt)
R5 - 3 premiums (Grimes, Cox, Goodes)
R6 - 3 premiums (Chapman, Rioli, Sandilands) 1 rookie (mzungu)

I had a team in the fanplanner earlier in the pre-season which had 5 prems out over those rounds...but that included b.harvey & didak, didn't have chapman and then grimes & cox came along...I doubt b.harvey & didak will be better options

And now I need to downgrade Didak to Goodes to make sure I have enough cash in the bank to allow for a round 5 sideways trade to petrie from a rookie

Rd 4: 2 Prems
Rd 5: 3 Prems
Rd 6: 4 Prems
That's exactly what I have, but the 4 premium's in Rd 6 are spread across all positions.

Depending on structure/strategy, rather than a sideways/rookie trade to get Petrie in... if he's averaging around the 80/90ppg... Worth considering a R2 downgrade? Would depend on how things pan out, but hypothetically, Cox/Jolly maintain pre-season value and average ppg, a downgrade to Petrie would be better option?

Just thinking out loud as considering a similar strategy...

tferrier18

Well Petrie misses round 1, he plays in round 2, and then misses round 3 so I'm not going to consider a trade off just one match.

That's why if you wait until round 5 he would have played two matches and had another week off.

I've got sandi/cox in at the moment so I don't think I'll be looking at a downgrade, unless Cox isn't performing (even still, I'll probably stick it out til he hits form)

3,1,3 for rounds 4,5,6 atm, although depending on whether hurn steps it up the first 4 rounds, could be 3,2,3

surely it wont have as big an impact as expected.

lets, for example, say that every player scores exactly their average, for every round of 2011.
and in rd 4,5,6, you have Goddard(633,700), Riewoldt(529,900), Goodes(458,900), Selwood(573,200), and Buddy(522,900).
(Im sure everybody has more, but lets keep it simple for now)
Squad value = $2,718,600

So for those rounds, you are missing out on a total of 618.7
Scary numbers hey!!
And with their second byes, another 618.7
Total points lost (without considering bench's points) is 1237.4

Now, lets change these players with byes outside of 4,5,6.
Swan(617,300), Judd(576,700), Watson(520,400), Harvey(488,400), Johncock(493,100).
Squad value = $2,695,900
With their two byes, total points lost is 1108.2

So, with those particular player combos (bad combos i know, probably doesnt even work), by avoiding rounds 4,5,6, you are saving 129.2 points, and even a bit of cash too. but because squad 1 has a higher average, then wont the other 22 rounds make up for that ???

i guess the above, in one sentence, is that - Every player has 22 rounds to add to your overall, regardless of when their bye is.

I dunno. thats just tired, long day, post gym thinking. tell me if im off in crazy land
If, however, im on to something, praise me for easing your bye worries  :P

tferrier18

ahah no dw, I know what you're talking about...i've thought about it like that as well.

I guess the focus on having less players out during these rounds is so that you don't fall behind the pack by having 3 bad rads in a row. you can always trade around the other byes throughout the rest of the season to minimise the number of players out.

almost genius stewfoss

but I think the difference is you can provide reasonably high-quality cover for a single-bye and not loose many points. but its not really feasible in the muti-byes as you have so many positions to cover you end up with some duds in there.
