In going with the third year rule I have experimented with a side made up primarily of draft picks from the 2008 draft and rising star nominees from 2009. If the third year rule works out, I can expect a few of these guys to have breakout years and a solid team heading into the finals. Ruckmen are a little slower to develop so I've allowed a couple of fourth year ruckmen, hopefully able to emulate what Matthew Leuenberger did in 2010.

You're obviously trying to win your league and not overall with this team I assume. Interesting strategy, my first thought is that you have to hope that enough of them turn into keepers or else you'll run out of trades. overall it's an interesting strategy but i like it!

Glad someone looked at this. I have tried a similar thing with experimenting with dif teams.
I understand your concept but for this to work well you should omit players for the same reason you would a normal team, ie hartlett will again be injured most of the yr. i think sam wright is a no go too.

i take it this is a "second email" team ?

this also assumes the breakout rule works for all positions... which it doesnt.

ie key position backs/fwds and rucks

Mr.Craig

Is Whitecross eligble? I would take him over Shoenmakers. Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback. Yes it's just a second team.

If I was serious about it, I would put in a premium in each position but I really wanted to see if someone really had a breakout season and I need to hedge my bets on many players.

It was a tossup between Hartlett and Swift because of his injuries but Hartlett may well recover and play a key role in Port's midfield in the second half of the year.

And I tried to avoid key position players such as Pears and am aware that Rucks tend to breakout in their 4th or 5th seasons.

I would also allow for 2007. A lot of players don't get a go in their first year which means these guys could make your team a little stronger and have just as good a reason to be there.
