Nathan Ablett yes or no. @ $84,200. Nobody has picked him. If not, why not. He was on the improve until he left Geelong. GC will play as many older players as possible considering the average age of the team.

He's obviously got the body right but does he have that mental strength to stay at the elite level, I think not.
Will be very interseting to see how he goes, and I genuinely hope he goes well but that brotherly shadow may just keep him in the dark for a while yet.
Coad for me as a GC rookie, meets the same citeria you posted about " GC will play as many older players as possible considering the average age of the team. " and is a solid, focussed decision maker.

50/50, at this stage I've got my eyes on Prestia and Matera more though.

Yeah, I worked with Sturt when he was there - quality player and will provide plenty of run out the backlines and can even swing forward considering GC's plethora of back options but lack of fwd options.

But with Coad, Iles and Toy all preliminary listed as Backs and at 84K, which one(s) to lock in?  Surely can't have 3 CG bench guys considering round 1/9 byes.

Can't go with 3 bench, especially since most teams will have Swallow start and that makes 4, too heavy then.

*Nice to see another SANFL voice in here, welcome to the forum - is Richard Allen still the President at Sturt?

Chopps

nathan ablett nah uh only scraped in on preseason, would rather look at someone else currently got Matera pencilled in, really only based on family name at this stage have to wait and see

Not sure McRooster, the last season I was there was 2005.  As an Eags man, I haven't followed their administration since leaving.

The round one bye won't hurt as much as people say - especially if you are choosing Gold Coast kids as bench players. You should otherwise have full squads. I'll probably have 5 GC rookies who will all get lots of games and make me lots of money!

I had Rockliff from round one last year under the same premise which saved me a trade and the embarrassment of picking Mr. Burgers.

RiOtChEsS

at first i thought he would be great value... now im unsure i can squeeze him into my team :-\
