Sebastian "Sticky" Tape is an athletic tall defender with excellent closing speed and a competitive edge. He is very good one on one and below his knees. He captained South Australia in the under-18 championships this year.

He describes himself as a a competitive player of a reasonable size, capable of playing either tall or small defensive roles with good ground skills and athleticism.

Gold Coast were always likely to take a defender with their last first round pick.  Yet they surprised many when they took Tape, especially since they were said to have an affinity with Pat McCarthy. 

The reliable defender wears talls and smalls like a glove.  Has good closing speed which makes him hard to be one-on-one.  Also mops up well below his knees and is a neat left-foot-kick.  A comer stone backman who flies under the radar.

In the U/18 Championships, Tape was OK, averaging 11 disposals.

Decision:

This kid looks pretty good, but I think with the wealth of defence options this year, I may have to give him a pass.  Quite expensive, Gold Coast already have a very strong defence, which will make consistent games difficult for Tape.  50/50.

more of a traditional lock down defender which puts me off but a good pre-season can change everything. For mine was the best defender in the draft so is a chance but unlikely at this stage

Agree Boomz, Tall defenders I stay away from even if they are established.

Matthew Scarlett, Simon Prestigiacomo, Darren Glass, Ben Rutten.... all great full backs, none are good for SC
