Summary:

My biggest surprise about Brent Stanton is he is only 24. Feels like he has been around a lot longer than that! Stanton's year was more of the same, a strong dream team player but doesn't really convert to SC. A slightly different role from Stanton this year decreased his output, with an average of just over 90 with 7 centuries from 20 rounds.

Stanton has averaged above 90 but below 100 in each of the last four years. He has yet to have that break-out year. Plenty of players who average 24 touches, 6 marks and 4 tackles and scored 13 goals for the year would be averaging well over 100. You have to question why he doesn't.

The Crystal Ball:

Based on last year's magic number
Price: $490,700

Based on m0nty's fanplanner
Price: $467,300

Position: MID (tiny chance of DEF/MID)

Will James Hird take him to the next level? Essendon have signed him on, and is an important part of Essendon's ball carrying equation. Needs a big season, but I expect more of the same.

Decision:

No from me. Even either a good pre-season (he had one of those this year!) I won't be convinced.

unlikely unless his role changes or starts kicking straight

I feel Stanton was mis-used by Knights.  If allowed to run he can be very very damaging to an opposition.  There's a reason he usually copped the A-tag.
I can't fit him into my team but I wouldn't be surprised if he has a very good year.

Excellent wrap as always Ossie.

Stanton's an interesting one for me. I think Hird will change his role a little, and he will end up being a better player, but he just doesn't cut it for me. He's more suited for DT.

He could possibly be an upgrade if he changes significantly, but it's unlikely though.

no but if he starts the year in a blast then im a 50/50

No. To inconsistent due to the tag, he doesn't cope well with it.
He will always have it because teams know what he can do if they don't give it to him and they know the tag works on him.

Will get some monster scores but also some stinkers.

Boomz

Had him this year and wanted to strangle him by the end... Never ever starting with him again.

Reminds me "Where is StantonLegend" by the way. Been very quiet lately.

Junktimer

very very unlikely at this stage.  in fact a straight no.
