8 in the leadership group was a suprise for me along with the inclusions of Ibbo and DeBoer.

Cicjose

i would personally go with a 4 man leadership group, Pavlich, Sandilands, Mundy and McPharlin

I am actually not a fan of leading teams/leadership groups - I think there should be a captain and a vice-captain and thats it.

So I am actually agreeing with you Cic that a smaller leadership group is a good thing.  BUT.... Freo are doing a lot better than ever so who am I to argue with what they do - the last 3 years it has been all good.

Cicjose

the reason i would go with those four is for the forwards, Midfielders and Backmen need a leader and those are it.

Mayne isnt a suprise for me, I think he deserves a spot, great young leader at the club.

I like the idea of a leadership group Valk. I think it allows players - who are leaders anyway - to be given official roles to do in the club. Gone are the days of "one size, fits all", you really do need leaders in each position.

Midfield, Defenders, Rucks, Forwards, Youth, Injured --> all need particularly coaching/captaining that can't really be done by 1 or 2 people anymore in this professional environment.

Having said that, I'm still for only having 1 captain for a club. And if Longmire chooses a sole Sydney Captain the world will make sense once again. Been ages since we've had 1 captain per club.

I can see how the first 5 got the gig in the Leadership group.

De Boer, Ibbo and Mayne probably got into the group so they can build with future leaders of the club so they aren't left stranded without one ever.

Most likely so.
