Option 2: Bench Skipworth and trade one of the two reserve players. (Shoenmakers or Gumbelton)?

probably go for the premium coz thats what u want to do with skippy anyway. saves u an extra trade of doing it later on.
im in the same situation.juz dont know which premium to get

im pretty sure i want to get stevie j but still want a premium bit cheaper who is consistent. alwayz want extra cash spare

Pretty hard to find players less then SJ that are consistent. Think of it like this:

Option 1- Player that scores 120-85 regulary, but not much $$ left over.

Option 2- Player that scores 60-90 regulary, but 40-80K left over.

In the end, when upgrading a player that made u $$, u want to use that money to your full potential.

So IMO go for Stevie J priced player instead of someone cheaper...
