Summary:

Many people thought that in order to preserve youth, Geelong should have shown this champion of the game the door and forced him to retire. Instead they gave him another year, and time will tell whether is was the right decision. The fact is though Milburn had an outstanding year in 2010, and I think was unlucky not to get an All-Australian nomination.

Milburn missed rounds 2, 3 and 16 during the year. Annoying for fantasy coaches, but nowhere near as bad as it could have been with someone his age. Remarkably consistent without being spectacular from rounds 1 to 15, where in 13 matches he scored 4 centuries, at an average of 88.6 with a low of only 63. The last 6 rounds however is where he showed his class, averaging a remarkable 120.67 with 4 centuries and a low score of 90. His finals campaign was a bit subdued, leading to the speculation that Geelong are old and lacked pace when they needed it the most, finals scores below:

Qualifying Final v St. Kilda: 91
Semi Final v Fremantle: 59
Prelim Final v Collingwood: 85

The Crystal Ball:

Based on last year's magic number
Price: $524,400

Based on m0nty's fanplanner
Price: $499,300

Position: DEF

Very likely 2011 will be his last year, and I'd expect him to decrease a bit in output. I do not think he will embarrass himself, but I think is overpriced. He will miss a couple of games at least as the Cats will rest him before another finals campaign at some point.

Should still remain only a defender. He did average an impressive 24 touches in 2010, but he has always been a defender.

Decision:

I'm going to put an "upgrade target" label on him. He finished 2010 strongly, and if I'm in need of a reliable defender for my Prelim or Grand Final, he could fit the bill. Remembering Geelong have the bye in round 22 (semi-final week) so please wait until after that!

Too old, I was surprised by how well he did this year. And Scott is making the old fellas like Milburn come back early this year, I reckon he'll break down soon.

no from me is getting on in years even though he is still performing well it's like taking Fletcher alot of risk with his age

plus got a couple of names in front of him
personally i'd take enright and kelly before Milburn

Maca24

to old and geelong should be pushing youth.

+1 Surprised by his results, but he's way too over the hill for me.

Supercoach needs to add an age discount into the pricing. It would make the option on taking a risk on the likes of Milburn interesting.

As it is, not for me.

Not a fan of him... He's a knob. Simply for that reason & the fact he's as old as my grandpa, No.
