Skysports.com's ratings review feature is back for the 2010/11 Premier League season in the new-and-improved format of heroes and villains.

After each round of fixtures we will discover the stars from the latest performances, as well as highlighting those who had matches to forget.

The player ratings awarded by readers and journalists after every match of the season are used to assess the performances of the individuals on show.

Remember it is possible to give your rating on all the players in the Premier League via the player rating tab of each fixture and we will continue to round up the best and the worst on show.

Heroes

Paul Scholes
In the words of Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, Scholes is a 'master of his trade'. When all is doom and gloom about the state of the domestic game and the lack of technical skill at grass-roots level, the midfielder gave evidence that England could once produce sublime talent. Scholes delivered another masterclass in possession in his side's 3-0 victory over Newcastle on Monday night. Having dictated the Community Shield, Scholes produced a follow-up display of keepball that you could be forgiven for thinking came from the streets of Barcelona, not Salford. Journalist Rachel Griffiths was certainly impressed and awarded the former England international ten out of ten, while readers averaged 9.1.

Joe Hart
Chin up Shay. As if it was not bad enough for Given after he lost his place in the Manchester City first team to Hart for the season-opener at Tottenham, the goalkeeper then had to sit and watch at White Hart Lane as his colleague went on to produce a sensational display and earn a goalless draw. Hart demonstrated why he is likely to be England's No.1 for several years with a succession of spectacular saves combined with confident handling. What's that you say, Shay? You have always wanted to play for Fulham? Reporter Simon Crawford dished out a nine and a readers' average of 9.2 was in close agreement.

Marlon Harewood
Scholes and Hart can be considered as stars of the Premier League. Marlon Harewood, meanwhile... It is fair to say that nobody expected Blackpool, last season's Championship play-off winners, to announce their arrival in such style. But Harewood was the trendsetter. The striker was a huge disappointment at former club Aston Villa, however, after moving to Blackpool last week he ensured his debut was memorable with two goals and an assist in the 4-0 demolition of Wigan at the DW Stadium. Our man, Jamie Casey, gave Harewood a nine and readers awarded 9.3.

*Special mention should also go to Aston Villa's Marc Albrighton as his two assists in the 3-0 victory over West Ham earned a nine and 9.2 average. The 20-year-old could be one to watch this season.

Villains

Maynor Figueroa
Only one Wigan player, Victor Moses, received a writer and reader score of more than five, making it difficult to pick the worst offender in their humbling at the hands of Blackpool. Casey was not pulling any punches in his assessment of Roberto Martinez's apparent relegation candidates, but Figueroa just edges it as the rouge. The Honduras full-back has been linked with several club's this summer, but Casey thought he 'didn't do his market value any favours' when producing a performance worthy of a three and an average of 2.1.

Mamady Sidibe
After new Stoke signing Kenwyne Jones hobbled off with just 14 minutes on the clock in the eventual 2-1 defeat to Wolves at Molineux, Sidibe was introduced. Readers and writer, Mike Barton, thought that it was downhill from there. The former Swansea and Gillingham striker 'looked lost', according to Barton as he decided to rate the performance as worthy of a four. Readers were even more cynical when averaging 2.3.

James Tomkins
The West Ham defender narrowly edges out Birmingham's Stephen Carr as our final villain. Carr earned a four and 3.7 when giving away a penalty and scoring an own goal in his club's 2-2 draw at Sunderland. But readers decided that Tomkins' performance was even worse in the comprehensive defeat to Aston Villa. The 21-year-old earned a four from our writer to match Carr, however, readers deemed his performance only worthy of 3.2.
