I'm playing for a league win and $300

My team:

Goddard / Hodge / Enright / Malceski / Goodwin / Maguire / Waters / Silvagni / Wil Young

GAJ / J Selwood / Barlow / Ball / Mitchell / Bastinac / Armstrong / Jetta

Hille / Tippet / Trengrove / Warnock

Chappy / J Brown / ROK / Grundy / Aker Goodes / Medhurst / Gumby / Watts / Hitchcock

13 trades $178.6k

Last week I lost 2028-2049 to a team I shoulda beat but my forwards dropped the ball (less than 500 points from 7 of em). Wasn't all bad news though, my faith in Tippet finally proved its worth, and Mitchell locked himself into the fourth center position.

Now I'm in 6th, at 6&2, 2 games clear in the 8, one game clear of 7th and only percentage away from fourth.

I have my son this week, who is one game out of 8th in 12th. He averages 150 less than me, but would've beat me by nearly 200 points last week. I don't really care if he beats me this week as I'm paying his entry fee and would take the prize money if he won the league. He's fighting for the eight amongst six others, but if I let him have this week, I could be too.

After my son I play the league leaders, then the bottom of the ladder side, then number 2. If I won three of the next four I can book a top four finish.

So my strategy going forward is this:

This week:

Aker > Goodes: Aker's gotta go and the more I research Goodes over the last few years, the more I'm certain I need to pick him up before his price soars.

Warnock > Stanley: Need to start freeing up some more of my cash. Warnock hasn't even been an emergency in weeks, Nathan O'Keefe didn't get a guernsey this round and Campbell Heath is on an extended bench. If Heath does make the team, I may decide to go Silvagni>Heath instead, but I'm probably more likely to get a good downgrade in the back than in the ruck later in the season.

That'll leave about $270k in my bank. Plenty for Gumby, Hitchcock, Waters or Bastinac to a premium player next week.

What are your thoughts?

There is a strategy thread for posts like yours.

Sorry.

I RTMd a request for it to be moved

Yeah, get rid of Aker this week. He's carrying a hamstring injury and will be out with a couple of weeks for that. In addition to this he has to play 2 games for Williamstown before earning another one with the doggies. The Aker to Goodes trade sounds good to me. Do it this week.

Yeah, I can understand your frustration with Warnock. Not sure if I would do the Warnock trade to Stanley just yet. I would probably rather the Silvagni to Heath trade as I don't see Silvagni making much more money as a cash cow IMO.

There's also the option of downgrading either Gumby or Hitchcock to Daniel Stewart, who is starting CHF for Port this week. Hitchcock has a far lower b/e than Gumby, but is out with a shoulder that looked bad last week, but Port have played down over the week. You'd have to imagine they won't be bringing him straight back into the 1's either.

Hitchcock>Stewart would leave well over $300k to spend next week.

Decisions Decisions

Perhaps Sunday's final teams will make them easier.

Missed the boat on the downgrade last week, because of overtime on Friday. No big loss though, Warnock may come back yet

Rd 12 I'll be playing the top of the league side, who lost their first to the 2nd top this week. I had a bitter-sweet victory over my son, though the troubling thing is that I was ranked 12th in my league this week at 2153, with two monster scores of 2500+, and 7 more over 2200.

Ofcourse my rucks let me down enormously. A total of 40 points from the two of them with Trengove getting 44 on the bench. May be time to trade Hille, though I loath trading rucks in the early part of the year because they are far too injury prone. We'll see where Hille is on the injury report.

The plan this week is Jetta > Gysberts and a major upgrade.

Gumby > Didak or Silvagni > Newman look good, though Hille > Cox probably won't look as attractive again, especially if Hille is needing more than 4 weeks on the sidelines.
