After Swans, Hawks, North, Blues, Saints, Power

AAP make another HUGE inroad, with Mexico City's James Sicily tagging along Macrae with a 160+ score. Cape Town's Callum Mills produced a serviceable score, as did New York's Jack Steele and Buenos Aires' Luke Parker.

But, it wasn't all good for AAP.

Toronto's Travis Boak sh!t the bed with a 54, that's right, a 54 effectively undoing Macrae's good work in the midfield.

Fortunately for AAP, EurAsia had their own failing with Goldstein letting both the coach and EurAsia down with 69. EurAsia would be in huge trouble if it weren't for New Delhi's Jake Lloyd coming to the rescue with a big 157.

Both teams have also had all of their emergencies play, with none really popping their hand up barring the previously mentioned Nick Haynes from Seoul. EurAsia are also seemingly playing it safe, choosing to bank PNL's Bailey Smith in the forward line for just a serviceable score. I wonder if AAP will think similarly for Cape Town's Brad Ebert?

Salty Seconds
The saltiest second from Saturday was Toronto's Rowan Marshall (160), whom would have slotted in as R1 quite nicely for AAP. Toronto teammate Patrick Ryder (142) also would have served AAP well, but neither were really putting their hand up pre-match. Sun Sam Walsh (140) would have been a fine left field selection too.

For EurAsia, Dublin's Dane Rampe (139) would have been a masterstroke as he does tend to go large on occasion, but would have risked scoring a 50 in the process. London's Jared Polec (136) and Tokyo's Harry Cunningham (125) would have slotted in too.

However, I don't think either team will lose sleep on missing the above ones. But I was tossing-and-turning about Josh Kelly, though.

Purple 77

Neale (152), Oliver (177), and most importantly, Gawn (157 x 2).

It's game over. Will do official write-ups tomorrow.

One of the less eventful rep battles! The real question now is: can EurAsia break 200 tonight?

EurAsia Giants tower over Alliance

EurAsia walked in with $1.01 odds and true to form, won the game comfortably in the end. Although the result shows a 170 point margin, the Alliance made all the right moves early and were arguably ahead at HT. They didn't miss out on any high scores from legitimate options, whilst EurAsia missed out on SOOOO MANY!

Then Gawn, Neale and Oliver happened, and it was game over.

The real difference in the end though was captain options. EurAsia had a smorgasbord whilst AAP had to take a punt a player with a ceiling. And who better than last year's hero Reilly O'Brien, who scored 180+ on that fateful day?

For the second consecutive year the result was indeed decided by Reilly O'Brien, this time to the detriment of AAP scoring only 86 as captain, compared to EurAsian goliath Max Gawn (157).

Outside of that AAP really took it to the more fancied EurAsians, whom had several players choke on the big stage (Grundy 61, Goldstein 69, Treloar 81) and other worthy players overlooked going big in Seoul's Josh Kelly 195 and Dublin's Toby Greene 166. They were also unlucky when New York's Tom Doedee committed the ultimate WXV sin and set foot on the field in the third quarter whilst not completely right, later succumbing to injury. Replace him with say, a defender scoring a ton, and getting a better captain performance then AAP may have won.

However, stand-in EurAsia coach Holz got the job done for the second time in his career out of 3 attempts, leveraged the players he had to produce EurAsia's biggest ever score. But as alluded to, debut coach GoLions did an exceptional job with what he had available, and should be applauded for producing AAPs 4th highest score ever.
