Would love some opinions of my side below. Obviously rookies will change and R2 is my weak point but might be a risk Iâ€™m willing to take!

Backs: Whitfield, Blakely, Williams, Newman, Roberton, Sam Collins, (Hore, Wigg)

Midfield: Cripps, Fyfe, Crouch, Merrett, Miles, Liberatore, Walsh, Ian Hill (Stocker, Bewley, West)

Rucks: Grundy, Longer (Fort)

Fowards: Dangerfield, Heeney, Dunkley, Wingard, Setterfield, Cavarra (McAdam, Parker)

Roberton is another Iâ€™m not convinced on could quite easily become another rookie and look to have a 5th mid premo or upgrade second ruck.

i would personally upgrade the second ruck.

Who do you like at R2? Apart from Gawn obviously. I just think that $1.4mill is a lot to fork out those two

Other than Gawn, the R2 spot is quite open
Westhoff - depending on Ryder/Lycett situation
Martin - averaged 105 last year and hopefully doesn't drop off
Kruezer - risky pick with his dodgy body, but could pay off

Good side though, would look at getting a better R2 than Longer as has been mentioned however.

Martin would be my pick. Is just so consistent and continues to keep on keeping on. Gawn is my pick though but understand your reservations around him.

Even downgrading Roberton will not give you enough to upgrade Longer. If you do not mind burning a trade I would keep Longer hopefully he is named and scores above his avaerge and trade to Mummy in Rd 5 when Mummy will be on the bubble to rise. Mumford suspended for first 2 games.
Roberton is one who should benefit from new kick in roles as prior to injury he was in the top 3 of kicking to himself so I would look at downgrading Newman rather than Roberton. Would go Newman to Birchill if named Rd 1 as he will be a nice stepping stone for you.

Yeah definitely understand where you are coming from. Will be very interesting to monitor some preseason games. I think Newman could be huge for Carlton this year hopefully playing a Docherty type role, but if not then thatâ€™s a quite obvious place to downgrade and then upgrade R2.

Just thought at the price Longer is entering his prime aged 26 and playing for a contract as only signed on for 1 year. JS is very good as they only have 2 ruckman and could be used as a stepping stone
