Simpson vs Howe

I know on the face of it this seems an obvious decision but I'm really torn between these 2.

I was really keen on Howe early in pre-season, preferred him over Hibberd, and he was the last player cut from my team in my final re-structure before round 1. The calf injury scared me off but a 121 last week suggests lack of match fitness isn't an issue at all. He's been pretty solid since being moved to the backline and I think he's good for a 95-105 average and will be a top 6 back.

Simpson is the obvious choice with the much higher average and set to jump $20-30k. But clearly that is due to his massive round 1 score and had you brought him in over Howe last week you'd already be down 6 points. I think he's also a good chance to be a top 6 back so you may well need to get him in at some stage anyway but unless he can maintain a 100+ average his price will eventually come back to where it is now.

I've had him a couple of times before and find him a frustrating player to own. He typically puts in 3 sub-90 scores then pumps out a 140+ to keep his mid 90s average. It's stressful wondering when that next big score is gonna come as his price gradually falls. So on 1 hand I'm worried that he's already used up 1 of his big games for the year, on the other hand he has looked good and nobody else seems to be stepping up to take those Docherty points so maybe he's in for another big year like 2016.

Clearly Simpson is the safer choice with his imminent price rise but I'm really tempted to go against the crowd. Am I crazy?

Simmo + He has the better bye

Simmo. Better bye + more consistent. Howe will be a bit cheaper throughout the season, he'll drop a few 60-70s in a row at some stage.

Simpson's yearly average is very consistent but throughout the course of a season his standard dev is pretty high. I agree Howe is likely to come a bit cheaper at some stage as well. I suppose the question for me is who will score the most points in the next 11 weeks?

I'd say old Simmo easily with Doc out he is the man , he is old but my money would be on him

I started Howe, but I'd bring in Simpson mate. Last week Collingwood flicked Howe fwd at the end of the game to try and find some goals. Obviously the Moore injury left them short up front on the day, but if Cox keeps spudding i'd be worried they may look to try Howe up there a bit more often.

and Howe fwd = no good for SC

I noticed that last week too, bit concerning. Looks like I'm on the Simpson rollercoaster again. Thanks for the feedback guys
