From Twitter

The AFL Trade Whisperer has said that Freo are enquiring about Oscar McDonald.  Through conversation it was gleamed that we are potentially looking at giving Pick 5 and getting McDonald and Pick 10 in return.

Find this one hard to believe

We have enough developing key defenders atm and can't see OMac leaving his home state or his brother

it kinda makes total sense to me.

Lets assume they pick up Jake Lever, they pair him with Tom McDonald and then they have their 2 shut down backs.

They trade up to pick 5 and they pick up Jarrod Brander who is the best tall in the draft they either then play him up forward or play him in defence and put Tom Mcdonald forward.

so from the dees side it makes total sense.

Now for Freo.

So reports are they want Sam Hayes. Which makes sense as they arent prepared to have just Sean Darcy as their ruck stocks.

Now if they have worked out they can pick up Hayes at 10 then trading down makes total sense. Now lets look it over. The top 4 picks i think will be the big 4 mids. So then go team by team.

5. Melbourne - have gawn
6. Collingwood - have witts
7 + 8: Stkilda - there is a risk they take hayes
9: Dogs: There is a risk they take hayes.

If they work out that Stkilda and Dogs will not take hayes then they are basically picking up Oscar Mcdonald for free.

You said you have plenty of developing backs. but Omac is very developed for his age. First up he is playing like 22 games a season and secondly he is already one of the best runners. He is 8th in the competition in 1%ers.

a good comparison is Joel Hamling v Omac

Omac is 3 years younger, a few cm shorter, alot heavier and alot better runner.

Gets 4 more kicks a game, gets 0.5 more marks a game but yes Hamling takes more contested.

Until he gets homesick...  ::)

Lever isn't a shut down back

My thoughts (if it's true)

We trade pick 5 and get McDonald and 10

We then move Alex Pearce forward (who has shown a bit there) along with Cox and then run with McDonald/Hamling as our key backs.  Logue becomes the new Johnson as the 3rd tall.  Wilson and Ryan at half back and back pocket.

All a big "IF"

where would Sam Hayes fit into all this.

Pick 10 and then he can partner Pearce.  We offload Tabs for a 2nd rounder which we use to get Wilson.  Too easy :)

Doesn't make sense from an OMac perspective... why would he want to uproot from his family and come to WA. You'd assume he'd still fit in with Lever and TMac in the side. Like you said, TMac can always go forward

valkorum

I tend to agree that it doesnt make sense from an Oscar McDonald point of view.  If he stays at Melbourne he is with family/friends and still gets to play footy with his brother.

I was just mentioning what was thrown up on Twitter.

oh yeah I 100% agree with that.

But isnt the point that he will be traded. He isnt a free agent Melbourne can trade him if they think its the best for the club. Issue is you would probably really annoy Tmac.

Can almost guarantee that Melb wouldn't push him out unless he's a played up behind the scenes
