Gigantors 2017 AF Team

So I know flower all about good AF strategy, finished a lowly 30142 in my first year and really want to improve so I can challenge for the SC/DT/AF triple crown in Elxam :)

I'm looking for a few comments on structure more than the players picked as I feel GnRs doesn't work so well in AF and midpricers might be the way to go

It's not a bad team. You've got 8 keepers imo and you'd probably want that to be 10 minimum. Guys like Hibberd, Hartlett, Roughy and Ryder are in a difficult spot, they should all rise in value but you are picking those sort of guys for two reasons - 1. They will perform really well and become keepers or 2. They will perform really well and you can sideways them later in the season. I really doubt any of them will be top 8-10 in their positions and priced as they are it will take some time for them to rise in value enough that you can sideways them to a premo.

One of the advantages in the team you posted is the depth. You will be facing opponents who'll have more premiums than you but might be fielding rookies or cheap players at M6-M7 and D4 or F4. It could give you and early season advantage but as the year wears on other teams will be rising in value quicker because of their rookie picks and will be able to improve their team faster than you.

The midfield looks amazing but you need to consider that much of the value a team gains throughout the year is historically made by midfield rookies, it might seem like a bitter pill to swallow but if you replace Beams with the best available rookie (whoever that may be by the time Rd 1 rolls around) then you can use the spare money to upgrade a couple of those 400-500k guys to players you think are safer premium options.

I know you weren't looking for comments on players but definitely turf Francis, he's highly unlikely to give you the scores you are chasing. Form was all over the shop between injuries last year. There's a few decent prospects around that price so I'm sure you'll be able to get someone better.

Agree with MC's comments above totally, albeit we all seem to start wit 2-3 mid priced/risky picks.

I would ditch Selwood for Graham, Barrett or some cheap mid that will play R1 and use the cash to upgrade Ryder (McCrae, Buddy etc) and Hartlett (Laird, Shaw etc). Rest not to bad.

Structure is not bad but can improve

The Standard Structure most go with is:
3 Def Prems Yours is 2 + 2 mid pricers
4 Mid Prems You have 5 including Beams
2 Ruck Prems - You have 1 and a mid pricer
3 Fwd Prems  = Yours is 2 + 2 mid pricers.
and the one other prem on any other line giving you  13 keepers.

Prems are considered greater than $500k

The 5 mid pricers you have chosen you are hoping to make money to be a stepping stone or develop enough to be keepers.

So basically you need to decide what do I want from my pricers - If A stepping stone then consider downgrade and upgarde as a rookie will make cash faster than your mid pricer.

Thanks for the feedback guys, bit of conflicting advice regarding mid-pricers v GnR strategy, nothing wrong with that, I need to broaden my horizons if I want to succeed :)

For now I think I will stalk the other team threads for a while before I update my team  ;D
