Shannon Hurn has been endorsed by his peers and the coaching staff as a unanimous choice to continue as West Coast Eagles captain for the 2016 season.

That decision was formalised today when the playing group was informed of the leadership structure for the coming year and it was no surprise that the rebounding half-back was retained in the role.

The support network around him will also remain familiar with Josh Kennedy, Matt Priddis and Eric Mackenzie continuing in the senior leadership group while midfielder Luke Shuey has been elevated.

Kennedy, the all-Australian vice-captain in 2015, is the sole club vice-captain.

Senior coach Adam Simpson said it was great to keep some continuity within the leadership structure.

“Stability is important in the senior leadership group and we are fortunate to have some high quality individuals to call upon,” Simpson said. “Shannon had an exceptional first year as captain and Josh, Matt and Eric were terrific support for him.

“The elevation of Luke is indicative of his growth in the last couple of years and we are excited by what he brings to the group.”

MIDFIELDER Luke Shuey has been added to West Coast's leadership group, while Shannon Hurn retains the captaincy after an excellent first season in charge.

Shuey, 25, is the only new inclusion to the five-man leadership group, replacing former teammate Scott Selwood, who moved to Geelong as a restricted free agent during the off-season.

Selwood had been a vice-captain alongside Josh Kennedy for the past two seasons.

The two were elected as vice-captains under Darren Glass in 2014, remaining in the role in 2015 when Hurn took over the leadership.

Kennedy will be the sole vice-captain in 2016.

Shuey is the youngest player in the leadership group, joining Brownlow medallist Matt Priddis and 2014 best and fairest Eric Mackenzie.

Coach Adam Simpson said Shuey's elevation was reward for his hard work.

"The elevation of Luke is indicative of his growth in the last couple of years and we are excited by what he brings to the group," Simpson said.

Simpson said it was vital to have stability within the leadership group from season to season.

Massive Shuey fan as most know, has the inside and outside game to be elite imo. Just needs to consistently put it together.
