Profile:

Lobbe was forced to play second fiddle to Ryder for most of 2015, and his scores suffered greatly. With Ryder now suspended for the year following the Essendon supplements saga, Lobbe will enjoy being the #1 ruck for all of 2016. Only averaging 30 hitouts a game for the year, he managed to average a tick over 45 in the games that Ryder missed last season, so he definitely enjoys having the opportunity to ruck alone and should make the most of it.

Pros:

Underpriced after playing second fiddle to Ryder last season, and will be the #1 ruck for Port in 2016

Has gone 100+ before

Better midfield around him now, could mean more hitouts to advantage

Allows you to see who the next best rucks are after Goldy

Cons:

While he averaged 45 hitouts a game without Ryder, was against some of the worst ruckmen in the AFL (and only one of those scores was above 85)

Doesn't seem to get as many HTA, which will hurt his scores with new scoring system (which wasn't around when he averaged 100)

Prediction:

Some good pros, but some pretty bad cons for Lobbe. On the one hand, starting him allows you to have a better look at who the best rucks will be for 2016. He is very cheap, should make some money, and being the #1 ruck will score much better than last year. On the other hand, even with a tonne of hitouts against some very poor ruckmen when Ryder was out, Lobbe posted scores of 83, 85, 80, and 115. When you're getting 45 hitouts a match, you should be scoring basically 75 from those hitouts alone. The problem is that he doesn't get enough possessions around the ground, and if I had to guess, would say his HTA % would be around 25%, give or take, whereas the elite rucks would go at a tick over 30%. And even with Ryder spending a lot of time in the ruck, Lobbe failed to impact the scoreboard much, with only 5 goals for the year. He does tackle very well though.

Ultimately, I don't see him averaging much more than 90 at best, and I think this year it'll be better to go with the 'set and forget' strategy in the rucks.

Set and forget was the right option I think :P
