What's more important to get right, Rookies, Premos or Mid Pricers

So last year I nailed my rookie selections but had a mixed bag with my premiums and failed with mid pricers.
I managed to finish a very healthy 407 which I was absolutely stoked with.

This is the first year I've really done a review of my starting team and trades to see what worked and what didn't so I don't really have anything to compare with.

For all the long term pros out there what's your opinion on this?

My approach is more or less the same each year

Start premos who will be the top 5-10 in their line and are proven, and start the best rookies (generally never start any 200k+ ones. 95% are sub 150K)

If the opportunity arises mid season where it looks like a breakout is happening eg Shiel last year then I'll jump on then if cheap and am able to, but the starting team come round one only has established proven guns then rookies

As for mid pricers, I never touch them. A ruck with dpp would be the only exception and mostly since we went to one ruck bench spot

All that being said I couldn't sit here and say this is concrete. It has been to date for me, but I'd like to think I'll adapt if need be eg start a 200K rookie because it's just a must

In addition, structure is much more important than these type of players imo, and once we see prices, what rookies look good and likely for round one etc only then can we truly get the right structure

Starting two absolute beast rucks hasn't been a popular option in the last couple of years due to changes in ruck rules, but I think this is the year it will be

With so many gun mids under priced eg Ablett, Rocky, Jelly, Libba etc the money saved on them can be used to start with two top shelf rucks

It's situational at the end of the day. Each year different scenarios arise so you just need to adapt accordingly

I used to do a lot of rookie research then after a couple of years i realised that when it comes to rookies its nearly all about who lines up for round 1 anyway, the only gains to be had on starting rookies is identifying the odd rookie that will get games soon enough that wasn't selected round 1 and picking them over a round 1 starter you think will get dropped before making much money.
So based on that i find it's more important to select the right starting Premo's,
rookies are easier to corrective trade early on i reckon.

it's important to get them fairly right though so u don't have to do corrective trades

i agree though don't stress about them until round 1 teams and then pick the best ones based on a criteria

coming into my 4th year of SC. Your comments are spot on with my observations over the past 3 seasons.   Until NAB is finished and first teams selected you are flying blind.   If it wasnt such fun to stuff around with team options I reckon we could leave rookie review until week before rnd 1.
