I don't understand why the umpiring is "expected" to be worse/ biased because it's in Perth?

The 3 umpires aren't from WA, it's not like it's country footy where they umpire the team they follow

The umpires can hear the crowd though. I don't think it's as bad as some say but I reckon 50/50 decisions especially would be influenced by the crowd in places like WA, where the crowd is very one-sided

roo boys!

Yeah that's what I was going to say, the umpiring last night whilst very frustrating, is to be expected playing over and Perth and the eagles finishing 2nd and earning a home prelim deserved that right. Further highlights the need for North to push harder early in the season to really strive for that top 4 spot

I think the kicking on goal was really costly yet again, 7.13 won't cut it against the top sides. Same concerns I had after the first final, and whist you can get away with it against mediocre sides like Richmond, top 4 teams will make you pay.

Hopefully the Eagles can get up for Simmo next week!

Melbourne's done a fair bit of losing over the years and we still put up 35k+ members

Haha I'm heading in with no expectations mate, people forget we beat this team only a fortnight ago (I know they were off and we were at home but still).

Shuey free probably wasn't there, but the ziebell fend-off should've been a free

Swallow also got tackled while standing the mark.
Edited above: don’t agree on this one Mat â€" Swallow moved off from the mark to intercept Hutchings (I think it was) â€" I don’t know the exact game rule but in the ‘spirit of the game’ if I move off the mark I’m standing and try to grab hold of a runner going past, I can’t really complain if that runner fends me off imo …  ;)

Genuine match-fixing imo.

Most one-sided umpiring in a match I can remember by far

Frees/umpiring fair for a quarter, North far in front, start being super bias and look what we have. Not a coincidence.

As a legit good+fair umpire here, this is embarrassing
I dunno Jukes, I think I’m pretty neutral â€" as a Swans supporter I don’t have a lot of Eagles love if you know what I mean â€" 24-18 free kick count at the end of the match.

I thought Brad Scott’s comments re the umpiring were very classy … having said that I would have been really interested to see the momentum swings if Shuey wasn’t gifted that free in front of goal for high tackle from Dal Santo’s hip and if Ben Jacobs had been given the free for pretty much the exact same trip by Fyfe on Suckers the night before …  ???

Did they really just dig up vision from last night to knock an umpires call? Jeesh, it was a mistake, but get over it.
Pretty big mistake and in the context of the game …  ::)

West Coast have definitely been outplayed tonight. Will get exposed next week.

Look forward to hawks getting up by 60-100 points and all the bandwagoners jump off, carn the hawks
Haha that Eagles hatred is so strong if you're actually cheering for the Hawks ;)
Yeh, I think the game said more about the pressure that North were able to bring in the 1st half â€" just weren’t able to sustain it and got run over the top of in the 2nd …

I agree with RnB's comments, if North got top4 what could've been!!!  :o

I think West Coast’s defence will actually match up better against Hawthorn’s fwd-line than North’s. North’s tall timber (Waite, Brown, Petrie) definitely looked more dangerous all night but Hawthorn basically have Roughy and then a B or C-grader (Hale, Schoemakers, Frawley, resting McAvoy etc) if Gunston doesn’t get up, but even he’s not a proto-typical power-fwd …

Ha, ha â€" ‘typical’ east-coast bias … this happens to every visiting interstate team going to Melb â€" if only you could hear the east-coast bias in the commentary (Eddie, BT, Richo, Darce …) every other week …   ::)   ;)

I rewatched the game today and there were 4 terrible calls that went West Coast's way, but there were also 3 times where JK had his jumper blatently held on and no free kicks were give which would have resulted in 3 easy goals.  Apart from that not sure what all the whinging is about to be honest.

yep, I agree ... North's 'close-checking' sailed pretty much close to the line for most of the game imo ... a number of 'holding the man' calls weren't made and some high hits (albeit that were 50/50 imo) weren't called for Coasters either ...
