https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/25436612/meth-addiction-behind-garletts-fall/

Former Hawthorn young gun Dayle Garlett has admitted a methylamphetamine problem which he developed in Melbourne led him to commit burglaries in Perth to feed his addiction.

The 20-year-old was today sentenced to community service and placed on an intensive supervision order, after pleading guilty to two burglaries and receiving stolen goods earlier this year.

The Swan Districts product in May bought iPads and jewellery for $350 knowing they were stolen, and then in July broke into the former home of a friend in Midvale and stole a purse and phone belonging to a cleaner.

Then in September he broke into another house in Greenmount with an associate and ransacked it, stealing laptops, iPads, clothes, hats and a phone worth more than $4500.

Garlett, who quit the Hawks in March this year, has spent nearly two months in prison awaiting today's sentencing hearing.

After his guilty pleas were entered, Perth magistrate Paul Heany told the court how Garlett had revealed to a psychiatrist he had developed a meth addition while in Melbourne and on his return to Perth turned to crime to feed it.

All Garlett's earnings from AFL football were gone, the magistrate said, and he would have to rely on Centrelink on his release from prison.

The court was told that Garlett hopes to return to train with his former WAFL club Swan Districts later this month.

Garlett will be subject of a supervision order for 12 months, and will have to perform 60 hours of community service. He was also ordered to repay nearly $5000 to the victim of his last burglary

East Perth boys at it again

http://www.perthnow.com.au/sport/afl/wafl-player-faces-drugs-scrutiny-with-speculation-rife-he-returned-a-positive-swab-after-grand-final/story-fniv6150-1227157846415

WESTERN Australian football is bracing for another illegal drugs scandal.

Speculation is rife that a WAFL player has returned a positive swab from this year's local Grand Final and is facing an Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority ban of up to two years.

The player is understood to be a member of losing WAFL grand final team East Perth, which was aligned this year for a first time with the West Coast Eagles.

WA Football Commission authorities refused to comment on whether a player has tested positive to a banned drug.

East Perth is expected to make a statement on the player's behalf if authorities confirm the positive sample, the alleged drug and a penalty.

The substance is believed to be an illegal social drug and not a recognised banned performance-enhancing material.

A urine sample is said to have been taken after the Grand Final and has been diagnosed as positive at both A and B tests.

East Perth lost the premiership play-off to Subiaco by 16 points on September 21.

East Perth has had two players banned for positive drugs within the past four seasons.

One-time AFL draft hopeful Dean Cadwallader was banned for two years in early 2010 when he tested positive to anabolic steroid nandrolone.

Another Royals player, Kane Godwin, was then banned a year later when he was found guilty of performance-enhancing drug use.

Under ASADA and AFL-affiliated leagues, if illegal substances are detected on match days, players still face penalties for in-competition use to enhance performance.

Swan Districts player Travis Casserly was banned for two years after his side won the 2010 WAFL premiership by just one point over Claremont.

He tested positive to elevated levels of pseudoephedrine that Casserly claimed was from tablets he took to fight flu and cold symptoms before the match and at half-time.

Casserly had been on Richmond's senior list from 2006-08 before returning to Swans.

Casserly was a pretty handy player actually. Its a shame he got that ridiculous punishment for cold and flu tablets, because Richmond were going to re-rookie him after that GF

He and Cleve Hughes were pretty decent, it's shame Casserly never actually played a game for us.

Just don't get me started on Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls, particularly with some of the guys that went after him.

https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/a/25806302/life-ban-looms-for-royal/

East Perth midfielder Dean Cadwallader is facing a potential life ban from football after returning the second positive drug test of his career.

The 24-year-old is embroiled in another drug scandal after a urine sample provided on WAFL grand final day allegedly contained a banned substance.

Cadwallader has already served a two-year suspension for a previous offence, having tested positive to an anabolic steroid in May 2010.

_The West Australian _understands the material at the heart of the latest test is a recreational drug and not a performance- enhancing substance.

https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/wafl/a/26203294/royal-may-have-kicked-last-goal/

Bernie Naylor medallist Josh Smith may have played his last game for East Perth because continuing ankle problems threaten the crack forward's future.

Smith, 28, had his left ankle reconstructed at the end of 2013 and struggled through last season with lingering soreness.

The problem intensified after the Royals' 12-point grand final loss to Subiaco in September, leaving him unable to run.

He has yet to take part in any pre-season training and is on a program of pool and bicycle work.

Specialists have suggested the joint wouldn't benefit from more surgery because the problem is related to scar tissue.

Smith said he still wanted to play this season, but if the ankle wasn't showing signs of improvement he would be left with a tough decision.

"At this stage it's probably 50-50," he said.

"I haven't retired but there is a chance that I couldn't play again.

"It's not really how I planned this season to be.

"I re-signed with the club for another season coming into this year, trying to win this flag that we can't get, which is really frustrating.

"That carrot is still dang- ling, which I really want to get back for, but at the same time I've got to look at life after football and down the track."

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-02-09/rebranding-of-perth-stadium-absolutely-critical-?utm_medium=RSS

Rebranding of Perth stadium 'absolutely critical'

PATERSONS Stadium has been renamed Domain Stadium after the WA Football Commission secured a three-year naming rights deal with real estate media business The Domain Group.

The previous four-year deal with Patersons Securities expired at the end of last year and there was a significantly reduced offer to extend the deal through to the end of 2017.

However, the WAFC decided to test the market.

There are three AFL seasons remaining at Subiaco Oval before both Fremantle and West Coast shift their home games to the new Perth Stadium, which is being constructed at Burswood for the start of the 2018 AFL season.

WAFC chief executive Gary Walton said the deal was critical for WA football in the short term.

"It was important for us to either renew or replace that deal, and we were operating in a very difficult market with a stadium that's got a limited life with the introduction of the new Perth Stadium," Walton said.

"So it was absolutely crucial for us to get the deal done."

The Domain Group was named as new sponsors of Adelaide last week.

The multi-year deal with the Crows includes The Domain Group's logo on the club's match day shorts

Nobody else can say they produced the raging Brownlow favourite and the future greatest ever full forward/guy who'll win the rising star this year :3

And more depth too as the article says, we've produced 25 players compared to Sharks' 22 and Swans' 19

Oh lol, only looked at the team and didn't read the bottom.

Yeh I remember Swannies 4-5 years ago had like 10-15 boys drafted over 2 years and East Freo always produce a few

Tiges really coming! 4 wins in a row, team is really gelling after losing so many legends of the club recently, to afl (KMitch, Lee...) and retirement (Blacky, Jonesy :'()

Fantastic game today, South Freo 15.13.103 defeated East Freo 14.14.98, after East lead at 1/4 time by 32, 1/2 time by 9, and 3/4 time by 16

Dell'Olio kicked 4 and had 19 possessions, what a gun

Definitely the right decision to televise this instead of EP-WP

Feel sorry for him, at times it really looked like he'd take the fantasy football world by storm.

Classic east perth scum :3 but I guess he can blame the eagles for this somewhat, increased competition for spots -> increased pressure on players to take PEDs?

Unrelated, bumped into Claremont legend (and handy Freo player) Anthony Jones on Wednesday, oldest ever Sandover winner iirc, had a good chat for a few minutes about footy. Great bloke.

He's been a runner for the Eagles for a good few years now, maybe half a decade, and does other off-field stuff for the club. I remember when he gave away a free kick straight in front for Eddie Betts for interfering with the contest after the blues had a very fast break :P

omfg
Tiges needed a win this week to make finals, away at West Perth
Down 25 points 10 minutes into the last
Kick 3 in 5 minutes
Winning goal by the captain with 26:19 gone
Win by 2 points
Make finals at the expense of swans

:')

To be fair, it was their ressies side thanks to Freo's resting antics

But that side would've been their normal side had they not decided to cheat the rest of the comp and join with an afl team.
