BOX HILL HAWKS vs FOOTSCRAY BULLDOGS - 2:15 Sunday at Etihat Stadium
Dogs made the Grand Final in our first year as a stand-alone club. Defeated the mighty Port Melbourne to earn a shot at the premiership.
Hawks looking to go back-to-back. Just got over the line against the Dogs' former VFL affiliated team and 2014 Foxtel Cup winners Williamstown.
Lin Jong to be best on and Liam Jones to kick a bag to inflate his asking price since he's probably seeking a trade.
Footscray (then known as the-tri colours) have good form in VFA/VFL Grand Finals. Last time we were in this competition (1886-1924) and after the 1896 split that saw the VFL (now AFL) formed, we won 9 premierships between 1898 and 1924. This included a hat-trick from 1898 to 1900 and four premierships between 1919 and 1924. Then joined the VFL in 1925. Time to reclaim our dominance!
The Dogs smashed Port in the last quarter. I had no idea Jordan Russell was playing for the Dogs until I saw the game on the weekend. He was the co-captain with I think Prismall on the day. He ended up kicking one after the siren which I think was the 10th goal of the last quarter. The Hawks looked good with Big Boy in the team, I think he might get a call up to the seniors this week, but if Cyril comes through the reserves this weekend (which I doubt) that should make it an interesting game to watch. Litherland, Shoenmakers and Suckling might also all be suiting up for Box Hill
Nick Lower is the captain of the VFL side and Russell and Prismal were just filling in for the injured captain.
Cyril won't be allowed to play since he hasn't played any VFL games this year. They got away with McEvoy being allowed to play despite playing 1 less game than the required amount but allowing Rioli to get a run is simply unfair. That'd be like us being allowed to put Griffen in.
The reason they had to get an exemption for Big Boy is that the Hawks had a week off going straight into the prelim. If the AFL side has a final that week they can play whomever they like in the reserves making Big Boy eligible along with Cyril for the VFL GF if they choose to play them in the reserves this week.
Just found this article, apparently Cyril was eligible to play in the VFL last week :o
http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/rioli-wont-play-vfl-this-weekend-say-hawks-20140906-10ddqf.html
And an article from after the game

QuoteThere will be no questions asked about his validity in the team next week as all Hawthorn-listed players are eligible to play in the VFL grand final because its AFL team plays on the same weekend.
It means Ryan Schoenmakers, who had a quiet display in the Young Guns exhibition game as the curtain raiser to the clash, and Matt Suckling, who missed because he failed a fitness test on Friday, and even perhaps Cyril Rioli - if Hawthorn saw it as a preferred option - could play in the VFL grand final against the Dogs next week.
i couldnt see them risking any of those 3 last weekend though
Hope Footscray get up. 8)
And Cyril is in for Box Hill!!!!

Considering going to this game
Based on squads alone, Box Hill will destroy.

You don't think it will be much of a game?
Will be if you're a Box Hill supporter. I may possibly be a tad biased though. ;) Doesn't help that I don't rate a number of those Bulldog players.
Yeah, the Box Hill squad is better for sure. But Footscray did beat Port Melbourne so I'm not gonna count them out.
Footscray have Jordan Russell, that automatically makes them the best team in the comp
has the box hills team been named yet?
This is what I could find of the Box Hill team to take on Footscray at Etihad Stadium, 2:15pm on Sunday.

Interesting, seems he is a big chance to make the cut for the GF then.

I think it's more precautionary in case Lewis doesn't get up. Apparently Lewis' corkie was slightly worse than the average one and so they wanted Sewell with the main group instead of running around in the VFL.
I wonder what the odds are of both Sewell and Lewis both playing and Cyril being sub are.
Coverage starting on ABC for those keen to watch. :)
come on Footscray!
geez Etihad looks rough

Keen, just not in the right state. :(
Guess I'll have to catch some of the stream on the VFL site.
It is going to be streamed right? Right??
Great to see Pete McEvoy in the side again. Thought he was pretty handy vs Port.
Footscray stacked with AFL talent. Should be a good game.
loving the national album
Rioli getting boo'ed :P
Jarrad Grant ... or Duddy Mcshowercow?

So are Box Hill. :P
But yeah, been a good game so far though, fairly even contest.
that's the only way he'll kick a goal. off the goal line
Jordan Russell is killing it, looks a class above
So almost no chance of Rioli playing next week on this performance. Looks real rusty.
Come on Box, pull yer finger out.

Reckon he'll still come in as sub.
The Dogs are playing really well.
As Chumpy said, Jordan Russell is killing it!
James Sicily's been doing pretty well for the Hawks.
Sicily will definitely get some games next year.
Good comeback by the Hawks.
This game looks like it's gonna do down to the wire.

That passage was worrying if you saw it. Fast break into an open goal and he didn't get anywhere near full pace :-X

I thought he was gonna just steam ahead and nail it through the open goal. Gonna be very interesting to see if he's picked or not.
Hawks have control now. C'mon 'scray, fight back!
Sounds like it's been a good one so far.

It was to half time. All Hawks this quarter tbh.
That's the good part. :P
1.3 for Grant plus one out on the full, hopefully that's not the difference for the Dogs.
Footscray getting some momentum back!
Reminiscent of last quarter except the roles reversed
This is a lot better than the Port vs Tigers and Swans vs North combined. :P
Tightening up in the SANFL GF too.
Billy the Kid. Another one I'd love to see more of next year.
Footscray 10.7.67
Box Hill 11.7.73
Fantastic game, nice and close and still very much on the line for either side to win.
Nat Edwards @NatEdwards_AFL now
At 1/2 time I thought no way would I play Rioli in the GF. But after the 3rd term...I'm starting to change my mind
Here we go, come on boys!
Wow, okay then. :-\
So reckon we could get anything for Schoey after this performance?

Flowering hell. COME ON BOX HILL.
Jarrad Grant's behind might just win this match. :o
Liam Jones! Unreal!
Jarrad Grant and Liam Jones have won this game... :o :o :o
Guess I underestimated the Doggies. Well played. :'(
Well done Footscray!
Ripper grand final that one. Should've gone to the ground.
Well done to the Dogs - Lin Jong was great that qtr, enough for best-on though?

Definitely a chance. 29 touches
Brett Goodes wins best-on.
I wonder if he'll find himself back in the AFL Dogs 22 next season.
I forgot this was on
Jong with 7ks and 24 HBs and Goodes easily BOG.
But isnt Jong on the chopping block??

They put up the VFL last year on ABC iview. I could access it on my 360 and watch games on there which was great.
I would be dirty if I was the box hill coach. Obviously it was under Hawthorns instructions to sit Cyril on the bench all of the last quarter which had them down on rotations and got over ran.
Obviously Hawthorn have bigger fish to fry but playing him may have cost them the game

Oath. Especially after Iles went down it was a near impossible task.

Yeah, exactly.
Andrews going down early, and then Iles later in the game really didn't help but Cyril was likely to get mothballed which sucked for Box Hill.
