Title: SC Finals League thread
Post by: no eye deer on August 31, 2014, 11:46:33 AM
Thought I'd start a thread for the SC Finals League. Just for sh!ts and giggles, not too serious.

Quick first draft-

Mitchell, Ibbotson, Lake.
Fyfe (C), Jelwood (VC), L Neale, Caddy
B Brown
Gray, Walters, Rohan.
$110,200 left to blow somewhere.

Never played before, obviously C and VC most important to get right each week.
Thoughts?

McVeigh and Wingard are my concerns here - McVeigh purely because I think defence has some great cheap options so not much point spending that much money here... Wingard has been a huge disappointer for many in regular SC and I wouldnd be shelling out 330k for him here. Suggest a McVeigh DG and Wingard UG could net you more points.

Interesting combo of a few uniques here, biggest concern is blitz in the rucks, he's a decent cheap option based on his last few rounds but also consider he's been stomped both times against the hawks this year - 58 and 37. Currie the only realistic potential option within budget nut Goldy likely to come back and Currie out. Would look at Brown into rucks and a 280k forward.

Nice but probably a little light in the mids for my liking, Eski is expensive and as I said before I think defence is where some bargains are, so he's where I would look to make a reinvestment.

See above though I think you have a strong forward line that could compensate for a slightly weaker mid line. Enright a nice pick, 97 in both outings against Hawks so far which is good going for his price.

Jonas stands out, didn't perform against Richmond earlier this year, and I wouldn't say his recent form is standout. Like Edwards as a smokey there. Solid mid section too.

I think C x3 and VC x2 warrants a lot of consideration.

Even if getting the best of the best means grabbing a dirty nasty cheap donut.

So if you think Fyfe (who you can't afford because of some def spud you've picked) is the best, then have a look at the points difference between

Fyfe x 3 plus a donut AND a really good mid x 3 plus spud def's 45.

Might be worth thinking about.

Absolutely. Though I think there are good enough value picks out there that copping a donut isn't necessary, and also I reckon most people will lock in two guns for C/VC, and the donut choice is more likely to be something like a McVeigh, Eski + donut vs Smitchell, Lake and Morris or something like that. Still definitely a tactic to consider.

Lake Stratton and a $96K donut (sounds like an offer from a travel agent)

Brown
Buddy Gray Walters

I disagree. This game is more about searching for value for money. I'd rather go R. Gray over N. Fyfe. Both are capable of scoring 150+ but Gray is much cheaper.

Would rather R. Gray + K. Turner over say N. Fyfe + H. Marsh anyday.

It's more a %age choice option, yes Gray and Fyfe both CAN go 150+ but who is more likely to? It's a bit like Ablett vs Pendlebury, both are guns and CAN go big but if you had to back one as captain from now until infinity, most people would go Ablett...

Selwood's record vs hawks isn't great but he does step up where it counts so could be worthwhile. Swallow a little "meh" for me at that price, obviously salary cap is tough but I'm not sure he's great value - Zaha, Smitchell, M.Thomas all a little less. Accept your logic on the donut but not sure you've made the most of the saved cash...

Fyfe, Brown and Gray vs JPK, Goldy and Walters?

Fyfe 100 - 140
Brown 40 - 90
Gray 100 - 140

Assuming C and VC then range from 540 - 930

JPK 100 - 140
Goldy 90 - 130
Walters 60 - 110

Assuming C and VC (but prob have a better VC than one of these) then range 630 - 1000

I think Brown is a huge sub risk.

It's like any other week really, have to wait to see teams before we can really make a decision...
Taking on board doc's valid point about Brown:

Smitchell, Lake, Thurlow
JPK, Barlow, Lewis (C), Turner
Maric
Gray (VC), Titchell, Walters

Couple of different choices in mids as I reckon Fyfe could suffer a tag (McGlynn went to him last time in round 5) and he only posted 109 - also first game back after the first 2 week spell. Deja vu? Jelwood has been poor against Hawks this year.

Maric also I reckon worth a punt, only got 89 vs port last time but 6 games at an average of 111 since then...

Mitchell - Langford - Steinberg

Fyfe - Selwood - JPK - Turner

Griffin

Gray - Caddy - Wingard

Worries are will Langford tag (he didn't in round 22 and scored well) Griffin/Ben Brown are red vest risks. Wingard is a risk but is finding form and a big game player.

Interesting side kb - lots of potential in there but also lots of potential to backfire, Ibbo, Steinberg, Brown, Caddy, Westhoff, Rohan - all of these guys could churn you out a 50-60 just as easily as they will give you 80+. Ibbo and Hoff not as bad as value picks but the other 4 would worry me. But hey, no risk, no reward.

Enright, Broadbent, Lake
Lewis, Deledio, Neale, Turner
Maric
Gray, Walters, Brown

I'm pretty happy with that. Got 67,600 sitting around to use. Can't really find anybody I want that I'm confident in.

Latest for me

Mitchell Enright Lake
Kennedy Lewis Cotchin Turner
Brown
Gray Caddy Walters

Is it mad to put the VC on Lewis and then bring in a non scoring player if Lewis goes big tonight.

Nice, Brown is obviosly a weak point with Goldy back but considering what it affords you across the park I think you've done well.

Yes - C and VC don't work that way in finals, there's no loophole. you get double points for VC and triple for C so you would only lose points by doing this, your C and VC are set.

Mids: Fyfe (C), Selwood (VC), Barlow, Goddard

Taking the chance at loading up on the (x2 and x3) so have gone all out in the midfield.
Don't care if Griffin/Steinberg get subbed on/off as I think a 40-50 from them will be enough to curb other teams who have gone for a more even spread across their teams - no other teams have a genuine 4 premium midfield structure.

Found this week way too hard if you select Goldy in the rucks, strips the rest of your team!

Mitchell,Lake,Tippett
JPK,Hanners,Hill,Turner

Gray,Buddy,Parker

Might pick 2 swans as C and VC - not sure which 2 yet

Scored much better last round 1550 with Fyfe(C) and Jelwood(VC) picking low priced players who will score well is the key - Walters,Caddy,Ibbotson,Blicavs,M.Brown and J.Walker all did nicely for their price.

After seeing the teams -

Mitchell,Lake,Langford
JPK,Parker,Jetta,Wells
Brown
Gray,Wingard,Hale

couldn't find room for Buddy or Hodge or Hanners - who should make way for 1 or more of them (if any)? Feel like Hanners will tear it up

Hanners pretty hit and miss, does budget allow you to swap Hale for Neade and Wingard for Buddy? I reckon Buddy could go off...

So Neade+Buddy vs Hale+Wingard? Buddy could go off but I worry that Neade may struggle big time vs Hawks. Budget does allow that and leaves a further 60 K

1375 this week. JPK captain, Buddy vice. Kudos to Parker, Gray and Mitchell. Lewis was killing it until he got injured. 4067 overall score, enough to get me to the top of the cash league I'm in. GF should be good.

This week sucks haha I've ended up just picking a side based off averages in finals so far and being within budget. Not many cheap options out there...

Smitchell (VC) Hodge, Lake
KJack, DanHan, Hill, Sewell (fingers crossed!)
Hale
Parker, Goodes, Rohan

If Sewell doesn't get back in then probably look at the strategic donut somewhere (probably Rohan). Hale no brainer for Ruck, Lake is a big game performer so hopefully kills it in the final again, Sewell also a big game performer and after being omitted and Port coming agonisingly close maybe will get back in?

T Nankervis (Doughnut)

Didn't think any of the rucks have any real value so opted for the ever reliable doughnut. Cheers    ;)

I don't understand why u would do the donut ?

Hale will prob score 80-100.... so thats 80-100 you already behind.

what players have you upgraded with the extra $205,000 you saved on rucks ????

Say for example "Player A" would usually score even 50pts ..for you to make the upgrade worth while the upgraded "Player B" would have to score 140 at least to be ahead ??

Am I looking at it incorrect ??

Best of luck

You more than likely make a lot of sense Mark. I don't like any of the rucks, I would like Hale if I thought he would play 75% of game time. But it's a free no matter competition so I thought, why not try something different. Cheers mate.   ;)

Thanks mate, 9 of my 10 playing list all scored tons last week. Know it doesn't count for much just wanted to try something a little different for a change. Best of luck to you also.    ;)

Still think that's the case with teams now named? With Ceglar out, Big Boy named in forwards rather than ruck, and his finals performances so far, is this really a risk? I would have thought he was pretty safe.

think it's more likely tbh as Big Boy more capable by himself

Hmmm. I think I might risk going him anyway, freeing up the cash to get Pyke means taking a hit elsewhere that I think is not worth it even if Hale does get subbed. Now watch Hale get subbed for 20 while Pyke gets 150 :P

Mitchell, Langford, Lake
Hodge, JPK(C), Lewis, Lloyd
Hale
Parker(VC), Goodes, Rohan.

Very hard to make up a team this week. Every combo I tried left me just short of cash. Nearly opted for a donut as well.
