Title: PA's Captains - round 21
Post by: pommyadam on August 12, 2014, 11:25:22 AM
So I publicly doubted Rocky last week... and that turned out so well, but my #1 prediction of Priddis also backed me up with a solid 146 points (if that score is solid, then my team is shakier than jelly)

Anyway, a new week, and a new captaincy thread
Feel free to list any requests, and I'll cover them

Tom Rockliff
Last 3: 180, 110, 190 (average 160)
Last 3 vs Collingwood: 73, 123, 104 (average 100)
Last 3 at MCG: 137, 115, 100 (average 117)
Mids vs Collingwood: 146, 123, 95. Last-3 average of 121, last-5 of 126. 15/19 over the ton, 10/19 over 120, and 6/19 over 130.
Prediction: *whistles* that's a stunning form line, and rips it up at the MCG, his Collingwood form is also good, and they give up big points - 125

Matt Priddis
Last 3: 146, 100, 147 (average 131)
Last 3 vs Essendon: 137, 115, 75 (average 109)
Last 3 at Etihad: 101, 111, 107 (average 106)
Mids vs Essendon: 123, 115, 129. Last-3 average of 122, last-5 of 113. 16/19 tons, 9/19 over 120, and 7/19 over 130.
Prediction: Another one in ripping form, and does well against Essendon, and looks pretty decent at Etihad too. Essendon appear to have tightened up recently though, but should still be a good score - 120

Dayne Beams
Last 3: 125, 136, 113 (average 125)
Last 3 vs Brisbane: 122, 107, 31 (average 87) - NOTE that the 31 was back in 2010, back when he was used as a FWD
Last 3 at MCG: 136, 113, 98 (average 116)
Mids vs Brisbane: 160, 99, 107. Last-3 average of 122, last-5 of 117. 18/19 tons, 13/19 over 120, and 9/19 over 130.
Prediction: Last round was the first time in 6 games where the opposition failed to break 120 vs Brisbane. HOWEVER, looks in good form, does well at the MCG, and does well against Brisbane too, just which one will turn up? The tight one of the last few weeks, or the points-for-everyone team that was pre-bye? I'm not sure, so am guessing somewhere in the middle - 115

Joel Selwood
Last 3: 130, 137, 140 (average 136)
Last 3 vs Carlton: 79, 66, 122 (average 89)
Last 3 at Etihad: 137, 133, 79 (average 116)
Mids vs Carlton: 114, 124, 96. Last-3 average of 111, last-5 of 112. 17/19 tons, but 7/19 over 120.
Prediction: In great form, and does reasonably well at Etihad. But poor against Carlton, and they don't give up big scores either - 110

Steve Johnson
Last 3: 58, 67, 145 (average 90)
Last 3 vs Carlton: 77, 92, 60 (average 76)
Last 3 at Etihad: 67, 96, 77 (average 80)
Mids vs Carlton: 114, 124, 94. Last-3 of 111, last-5 of 112. 17/19 over the ton. To others though, they don't give up that many tons, so if he's not the leading scorer, then look elsewhere (gave up 7 tons in rd17, but peak of 130, tonless opposition in rd16 and rd18)
Prediction: Gosh, I hope you've traded him out already... Not only does he suck vs Crowley (as last week) then he sucks more against Carlton. Horrible form now, and horrible at Etihad, and even worse against Carlton, WHY? - 75
Confirmed out by Geelong

Rory Sloane
Last 3: 160, 108, 62 (average 110)
Last 3 vs Richmond: 87, 67, 88 (average 81)
Last 3 at AdelaideOval: 108, 109, 102 (average 106)
Mids vs Richmond: 129, 116, 147. Last-3 average of 131, last-5 of 132. 18/19 over 110, and 8/19 over 130. RICHMOND LEAK, and give up around 3 tons per game.
Prediction: One thing certain is a Sloane ton at home, and this doesn't look like changing, despite some poor form vs Richmond. Fresh off a nice 160, and loves playing at home, but probably won't be too big though - 105

Michael Barlow
Last 3: 137, 124, 97 (average 119)
Last 3 vs Hawthorn: 96, 81, 109 (average 95)
Last 3 at Subiaco: 124, 89, 96 (average 103)
Mids vs Hawthorn: 102, 103, 130, Last-3 average of 112, last-5 of 115. 18/19 tons, and 13/19 over 120.
Prediction: In good form, but doesn't really do that well at home, and only solid against Hawthorn, who seem to be finals-ing their conceding ability - 105

List:
Tom Rockliff - 125
Matt Priddis - 120
Dayne Beams - 115
Joel Selwood - 110
Michael Barlow - 105
Rory Sloane - 105
Steve Johnson - 75

REQUESTS

Brad Ebert
Last 3: 100, 102, 55 (average 86)
Last 3 vs GoldCoast: 114, 85, 124 (average 108)
Last 3 at Metricon: 85, 124, 67 (average 92)
Mids vs GoldCoast: 124, 115, 190. Last-3 average of 143, last-5 average of 142. 19/19 over 100, 10/19 over 120, and 8/19 over 130.
Prediction: GoldCoast seem back to old after Rocky and Macrae had their way with them, and this shows... Ebert's only in okay form, and does well at Metricon and good against GoldCoast, should be a decent score, but don't expect much - 105

Trent Cotchin
Last 3: 113, 113, 54 (average 93)
Last 3 vs Adelaide: 71, 111, 84 (average 89)
Last 3 at AdelaideOval: N/A (111, 61, 84 are his last 3 in Adelaide though, for an average of 85)
Mids vs Adelaide: 180, 124, 123. Last-3 average of 142, last-5 average of 128. 18/19 tons, 11/19 over 110, and 7/19 over 120.
Prediction: In reasonable form, and does okay against Adelaide. No form at AO though, but looks reasonably solid at footy park. Like his chances for a ton, but don't think it'll be too big - 105

Jordan Lewis
Last 3: 144, 102, 119 (average 122)
Last 3 vs Fremantle: 112, 111, 82 (average 102)
Last 3 at Subiaco: 69, 101, 79 (average 83)
Mids vs Fremantle: 130, 115, 121. Last-3 average of 122, last-5 of 119. 17/19 scores over 100, but 11/19 over 120.
Prediction: Another in great form, and in good touch against Freo, but a poor Subiaco record has me looking elsewhere, should still be a reasonable score though - 100

Steele Sidebottom
Last 3: 101, 142, 123 (average 122)
Last 3 vs Brisbane: 115, 115, 69 (average 100)
Last 3 at MCG: 142, 123, 109 (average 125)
Mids vs Brisbane: 160, 99, 107. Last-3 average of 122, last-5 of 117. Have been giving up around 2-3 tons per game for the last-5
Prediction: Looks next in line after Beamer to score well, a nice formline, and great against Brisbane, and even scores well at the MCG, as well as being inspired since his ban - 110

Dyson Heppell
Last 3: 129, 101, 103 (average 111)
Last 3 vs WestCoast: 92, 86, 61 (average 80)
Last 3 at Etihad: 103, 152, 102 (average 119)
Mids vs WestCoast: 125, 108, 103. Last-3 of 112, and a last-5 of 113. 19/19 tons, and 10/19 scores over 120.
Prediction: In good form, and does well at Etihad. BUT doesn't like playing WestCoast, and recently they've been pretty restricive too (apparently they've got a decent tagger) - 100

Travis Boak
Last 3: 144, 74, 77 (average 98)
Last 3 vs GoldCoast: 152, 116, 99 (average 122)
Last 3 at Metricon: 85, 124, 67 (average 92)
Mids vs GoldCoast: 124, 125, 190. Last-3 of 143, last-5 of 142. 19/19 tons, 10/19 over 120, and 8/19 over 130. Give up around 4 tons per game (1 FWD, 1 DEF, 2 MIDs)
Prediction: Did well last game, and coming up against a GC side that he scores well on (and give up a lot of points). Prone to some quiet games though, and inconsistent at Metricon. Could be big, but could also be small, picking somewhere in the middle - 105

Boomer Harvey
Last 3: 97, 71, 89 (average 86)
Last 3 vs WB: 118, 77, 113 (average 103)
Last 3 at Etihad: 71, 89, 101 (average 87)
Fwds vs WB: 95, 106, 93. Last-3 average of 98, last-5 of 96. 10/19 pass the ton, and 5/19 pass 110. WB give up 3 tons per game, which normally 1 mid, 1 def and 1 fwd.
Prediction: Lined up on Picken, which isn't a good sign. In okay form, and okay at Etihad, but good against WB, and looks pretty good for the North fwd set for a ton, but can't see a fwd getting one - 90

Josh P Kennedy
Last 3: 110, 88, 101 (average 100)
Last 3 vs StKilda: 126, 98, 99 (average 108)
Last 3 at SCG: 88, 130, 136 (average 118)
Mids vs StKilda: 106, 108, 99. Last-3 average of 104, last-5 average of 105. 17/19 make the ton, 12/19 have topped 110 and 11/19 pass 120.
Prediction: StKilda do not give up big points (rd15 to Cotchin was the last time anything over 125 was scored), even if they do give up a lot of them. Nevertheless, JPK's in good form, and does well at home, and against StKilda, so he may just buck that trend - 110

Jobe Watson
Last 3: 95, 114, 116 (average 108)
Last 3 vs WestCoast: 120, 122, 114 (average 119)
Last 3 at Etihad: 116, 88, 87 (average 97)
Mids vs WestCoast: 125, 108, 103. Last-3 of 112, last-5 of 113. BUT that's to the leading mid, they give up around 3 tons per game (generally 2 to mids, 1 to a fwd)
Prediction: If this wasn't his comeback game, then it's be a handy writeup, with good form, and good against WC. HOWEVER, it's his first game since injury, and (in my opinion) will be lacking some match sharpness, which will probably see him fade out - 75

LIST OF REQUESTS:
Josh P Kennedy - 110
Steele Sidebottom - 110
Travis Boak - 105
Brad Ebert - 105
Trent Cotchin - 105
Jordan Lewis - 100
Dyson Heppell - 100
Boomer Harvey - 90
Jobe Watson - 75

Take the week off and just lock in Rockliff...absolutely no point trying to go against the grain in finals.

Have updated requests

Still think you're looking for some kind of miracle if you're not putting it on Rocky,

But can accept that some may be looking for matchday/draft captains (of which I can cover here), or even a look at raw figures for alternative captains
or even if you're debating who to get in for that crucial league game (Sidey vs Jelwood for example)

in good form, but a poor record vs WC has me touch that one down a bit (plus a Hutch tag)

Travis Boak please, dropped a 150 on the suns last year and is coming off a 144. Given the way the suns are conceding points of late, he could go big

Are Port back to their old ways (ie got the form back) and is Boak set for a big one at a generally-inconsistent Metricon
hmmm.... risky, but a possibility with it being GC

Lined up against Picken (not that it means much) and WB don't give up that many tons - I predict that he's set to continue his recent form, unless North decide to step it up to make the finals (a win last week helped there)

JPK?

Numbers look good, but StKilda don't give up that many tons (3 total over the last 3 weeks) or many big scores (despite giving out a LOAD of points), which is reflected in the writeup - still looks good for him though

not gonna lie, when I detail a few due to what I think will be requests, Watson never came up
Given that it's his first game since his injury (didn't play VFL either, correct me if I'm wrong though) then I think he'll start off well, but will fade out - and this is reflected
Would've been a nice writeup otherwise, but no match fitness is his downfall
As for trade-in (as I assume this is for) then I'd probably give it a week or two first, but may prove to be a good Miles-switcher come GF week

Has anyone noticed that all the predicted scores are less than Rocky's average score...  ;)

hahahaha I think that pretty much leaves the whole matter redundant (only 25% own Rocky so it is important that every relevant mid is posted)

All joking aside, cheers PA for taking the time to post each week  :D

THIS IS LAST WEEKS THREAD!
I have give Shuey a writeup for this week (check the sticky at the top of the page) and projected a 115 for him

Not that you can go past Rocky this week, but he's a nice option to be bringing in
