Title: WXV Round 6: British Isles and Peace Cups on the line
Post by: ossie85 on April 22, 2014, 03:45:59 PM

REMEMBER: FULL LOCK OUT OCCURS DURING THE DAY ON FRIDAY

Round 6      AFL Round 6

Mexico City Suns   v   Seoul Magpies   Fireball Stadium
Wellington Warriors   v   Cairo Sands   The Basin Reserve   Africonia Premiership Match
Pacific Islanders   v   Tokyo Samurai   Tuanaimato International Stadium, Samoa
Cape Town Cobras   v   New Delhi Tigers   Newlands Cricket Ground
London Royals   v   Dublin Destroyers   London Olympic Stadium   European Premiership Match & British Isles Cup
Toronto Wolves   v   PNL Reindeers   Rogers Centre
Sao Paulo Pumas   v   Beijing Thunder   Estadio do Pumas
Moscow Spetsnaz   v   New York Revolution   Luzhniki Stadium   Peace Cup
Berlin Brewers   v   Buenos Aires Armadillos   Berlin Olympic Stadium

Highlights!

Will the real Seoul please stand up? Seoul, who have scored 150, 132, 131, 118 and 149 this year travel to Mexico City who haven't dipped below 144 for the year. If the 140+ Seoul show up, they are a shot at getting the Suns. But everything will need to go right!

Wellington have struggled all year, with a top score of 125. Cairo's low was last week with 127, and are on a 2 game losing streak. I'll call it here - a loss to Cairo here would mean the end of its top 4 hopes. Wellington have a lot to play for an ANZAC weekend.

The Samurai have been very strong over the last 3 weeks, and will go in as strong favourites to defeat a struggling Pacific (on a 3 game losing streak) and consolidate a top 8 spot and amazingly push for top 4.

The Cobras will look to bounce back against New Delhi, while the Tigers will be bouyed by another victory.

British Isles Cup between London and Dublin, with London holding a 2-0 lead. Can Dublin take the cup to Ireland for the first time? They will start favourites, but London have improved a lot in the last couple of weeks and may welcome back ruck Tom Bellchambers.

Toronto got its first win in unconvincing circumstances, and will face a Reindeer outfit in the form of its franchise. PNL favourites, with a win giving them an incredible 5-1 record, while Toronto need wins like this if they are any sort of finals chance.

The Pumas will again push for the top 4, in what is likely a percentage booster against Beijing. BUT Beijing have the capacity to score mid 130s, and the Pumas still have defense issues... so who never know! Gaj is due for a downer.

The Peace Cup between New York and Moscow is on! The ledger set a 1-1, but more importantly New York are at 3-2 and Moscow 2-3... This is a hugely important 8 point match for both, but I'll back Moscow to bounce back.

Berlin are trying to pull some form together, but Buenos Aires looks like a mammoth task. 2-4 would be hard to come back from for Berlin, but they've had a tough draw. Buenos Aires are looking very impressive.

Just helping out MC as he still seems confused after not naming a team last week. This week posting his team in the wrong thread...

Quote from: My Chumps on April 24, 2014, 12:41:20 PM
Def: Andrejs Everitt, James Gwilt, Nick Haynes, Cameron Guthrie

Mid: Trent Cotchin (VC), Josh P. Kennedy (C), Adam Cooney, Matt Crouch

Ruc: Dale Thomas

Fwd: Jeremy Cameron, Jack Darling, Shaun Higgins, Tom Hawkins

Benchies: Dom Tyson, Brad Hill

E: Craig Bird, Jasper Pittard, Ryan O'Keefe

Dale Thomas takes over ruck duties as he's absolutely spudding it as a midfielder. Craig Bird banging on the selection door but Cameron just keeps his place despite a series of underwhelming performances.

Need to bounce back with a good win here over opposition we SHOULD beat.

Can we make it 5 in a row against the struggling Wolves? :o. Just need Pendles to be well held and it's more than possible :D.

PARISIAN NICE LYON REINDEERS

Backs: K. Simpson, C. Enright, M. Jaensch, J. Harbrow
Mids: M. Priddis, N. Jones (C), L. Ball, F. Ray
Fwds: J. Westhoff (VC), C. Rioli, C. Wingard, J. Billings
Ruc: M. Lobbe
Int: D. Myers, M. Thomas

Emg: C. Dawes, T. Goldsack, L. Jones

IN: J. Billings
OUT: L. Jones

Enacting the sub rule! I shall remember this week as almost cost us last week :P. Will also be resting JACKSON TRENGOVE who's been very unlucky recently not to get the call up being in decent form.

Billings gets the call up after his brilliant game for Marseilles last week, at the expense of Liam Jones. Dawes finds himself unlucky but if there happens to be a late out or sub, he will wriggle his way into the side! That 4th forward spot is certainly tricky to decide on, hoping the right call is made this week.

Can we make it 2 in a row against the on fire Reindeers? :o Just need Pendles to go nuts and it's more than possible :D.

Toronto Wolves Round 6

Def: L.Henderson, M.Johnson, N.Grima, C.Pedersen
Mid: S.Pendlebury (C), J.Ziebell (VC), B.Cunnington, L.Greenwood
Ruc: P.Ryder
Fwd: J.Riewoldt, M.Robinson, J.White, L.Adams
Int: T.Hickey, C.Jones

Emg: R.Shaw, C.Young, Matt Shaw

IN: J.Ziebell, M.Robinson
OUT: C.Young (omitted), S.Morris (omitted)

Welcome back to vice captain Ziebell! Hopefully he can help boost the young midfield. Great news with Toronto's other vice captain and club legend Andrew Swallow returning through the lower grades this week! Conscious not to rush him back too soon, I've had a word to the medical staff and he's a chance for senior selection as early as next week, unlikely to assist the undefeated Wolves reserves. Robbo returns, McLean an outside chance to knock Greenwood out of the side come final selection. The Shaw brothers Rhyce and Matt (look very alike too!) not quite rewarded after strong performances in the reserves but will be close to selection with repeat efforts.

I can so see the resemblance between Rhyce and Matt :P.

Got some nice ins so this match could turn into a close one! Just hoping your Kangaroos have an off game, then kinda tilts things into my favour (6/15 Kangas) :o.

Just the one change made this week with Chris Masten replacing Jake Stringer in the side. Zaha again will be playing in defense, and will be joined by fellow midfielder Hamish Hartlett this week. No sight of defender Simon White who is in the bad books with the coach after a dismal performance a few weeks back and will have to show some consistency in the reserves before getting another call up.

PNL are forced to make changes as perennial bench warmers in Myers and Thomas are both out with injuries this week :(. We've been wounded but Reindeers still looking to fend off those blood thirsty Wolves!

PARISIAN NICE LYON REINDEERS

Backs: K. Simpson, C. Enright, M. Jaensch, J. Harbrow
Mids: M. Priddis (CC), N. Jones (CC), L. Ball, F. Ray
Ruc: M. Lobbe
Fwds: J. Westhoff, C. Rioli, C. Wingard, J. Billings
Int: L. McPharlin, T. Lynch

Emg: C. Dawes, T. Goldsack, L. Jones

IN: T. Lynch, L. McPharlin, J. Billings
OUT: M. Thomas, D. Myers, L. Jones

Enacting the sub rule! I shall remember this week as almost cost us last week :P. Will also still be RESTING Jackson Trengove because although we could use him this week, up against the Cats may not go too well so can let him have the go next week agaisnt GWS! Also using the Co-Captains rule as not sure who to captain this week.

Outs in our bench who have stepped up this year in Myers and Thomas have made room for Lynch and McPharlin to squeeze into the Reindeers lineup. McPharlin would like to prove himself as he has fallen down quite alot in the pecking order down back, if not and could find his senior stint to be a short one once again.

They were even saying it to the tune of a Lorde song.

Haha whoops. I missed that. I think because someone quote and moved it from the other thread :P

We named essentially the same team (and captains) though except with different players as our OOP ruck so at least we are on the same page :D

We'll go with My Chumps team then except I would like to make one change as ROK is not playing. Lamb in for ROK as our third E please. As follows.

Def: Andrejs Everitt, James Gwilt, Nick Haynes, Cameron Guthrie

Mid: Trent Cotchin (VC), Josh P. Kennedy (C), Adam Cooney, Matt Crouch

Ruc: Dale Thomas

Fwd: Jeremy Cameron, Jack Darling, Shaun Higgins, Tom Hawkins

Benchies: Dom Tyson, Brad Hill

E: Craig Bird, Jasper Pittard, Jed Lamb
Haha, all g, good form Memph! Good to know you're there if I flower it up again, which I very nearly did :P

It would appear there are three teams over at memph/chumps nation.

Memph's team, Chumps' team and The right team.

Gray = mid

Both need to remember! I had him listed as a fwd in preseason which has been messing with me haha. Should definitely be mid/fwd though, idk what VS is thinking >:(

Oh?

Been playing him as a fwd in AXVIIIs lol

Oh, you meant Sam not Robbie  :-[

Still, Hibberd gets me a 124 I didn't think was entirely deserving, so not all bad.

Hibberd's scores have been interesting, have increased each match!

Shame it looks I may have made the wrong choice for my last mid spot, picking Greenwood over Young and McLean, but ideally Brock can come out and return with a big score today, and return to the spot he once had secured at M4. Better yet, Swallow returns before the byes!

Some nice scores all round this week with Greenwood the only major disappointment. Far from game over yet with still 11 to play for PNL including both captains. Good start but my remaining 4 players must be good to clinch victory here.

Would take a mammoth effort for us to overtake them at this rate but we're on track to put up a respectable score, just not enough players taking that step further this week :(.

You're forgetting Redden's score for Pacific KB. He scored 119, so 179 as CC, takes their score to 1,256 from 14

oh thought he had not played yet for some reason lol

Otten is also an Emerg for the Crows so if we thrown in Day's 55 and HGA of 27

it means

1338/15

so

Mitchell (CC), Suckling, Dahlhaus, Rivers and Lloyd need to score 478 +

hope Mitchell can get us 180

Priddis and Jones had me a little nervous HP!

Game still anyones for the taking, but I'm quite happy with the way things are travelling at Toronto, hopefully on track for a 150+ score, returning to around the mark the team's capable of.

Like you said HP, backline has been phenomenal this week, would have been even better if I had rewarded Rhyce Shaw's good game last week with a spot in defence, but after 117 things are certainly looking likely for him to take a spot back there next week.

Henderson has been quite disappointing, early stages but I have really lost out on that trade with Purps so far  :-[

In other good news, McLean having a big return game is very promising for the midfield stocks, and hopefully he's learnt his lesson from Mick and should stay in the Carlton side as he deserves. Swallow playing today in the VFL, things are finally looking up for Toronto!

Warnock vs. Cox this week. Poor Hale no friendly opponent for him :(

Upgraded Astbury as would have had to use attack or have a standard lineup with no defence emergency.

Didn't feel right starting Wood. going to kill me with Wood scoring well and Astbury yet to get a touch 8 minutes to go 1st quarter ::)

Deep down knew I should have played Wood and Astbury emergency. Though was Angry as he only scored 50 odd last week.

Wood scored 97 2 weeks ago when not named, named him last week 50 odd, pissed off at him and drop him and 95+ or so.

Finished with a solid 1,508. Would like to have some defenders back playing so I don't have to play OOP, but that doesn't look likely any time soon... :-\

Our only emergencies were defenders so could work something out ;) :P
Haha no thanks, if they can't even make your starting team I don't want them :P

By the way you finished with 1,222 not 1,227, not that it makes a difference.
Woah look at Mr.Confident over here. You may be the best team now, but in a few years you'll be regret becoming enemies with us  :P That's right, we're enemies now  :P
Haha if you say so. My team is still extremely young, so won't be fading like the other top teams at the moment ;)

This is why I'm anti-divisions. These losers can win and have been putting up some wins. It's very exciting (imo) to see them knocking these pretenders off. I like this, I like it a lot.

Really happy with Aish's score this week, and I thought Mayes and Wines performed pretty well also but there were a lot of passengers once again. Getting Shiels & Caddy back will be a huge help!

BTW Oz just on our reserves, we rested Matt Jones this week... Does he count in our reserves score?

These results would have to have the coaches of Mexico City Suns and Buenos Aires Armadillos licking their lips. The coaches are now gifted with the knowledge that no matter what happens next week in their match up where one team will likely suffer their first loss the worst thing that can happen to that team is to fall to 2nd.

Buenos Aires and Mexico City 2 games in front of 3rd place. A tie would be good for both teams enabling them to be 1.5 ahead of the rest of the pack.

Congratulations on the win RB, Wolves are certainly coming now after a rocky start to the season! Just our luck at PNL, but glad we are performing at a high level! Think we've only been defeated by scores over 150, so our defence is certainly doing their job this year :P. Our all round effort wasn't enough to stop the stand outs over at the Wolves, but we tried our best :D.

Hopefully we can grab a scalp in the Pumas next week, if we continue in current form >:D.
