Riddle I posted the other day seemed to get a lot of positive feedback, so thought I would create a thread where I post a riddle each day or whatever and you guys can try to see who gets it first. Can reply in the comments here, no need to PM me. However, I will have 1 each week where, if you get it wrong, you gotta change your DP, and you must PM me for these ones. I will clearly specify which ones can mean you have to change your DP, although I may just put them into separate threads.
Think I might put in a leaderboard as well...
If you guess incorrectly, you must wait 3 hours until you take your next guess.

That would've been incorrect though, as they aren't in "a tunnel of darkness" (i.e. the barrell of the gun). Could be argued for the 2nd half of the riddle I guess, but I don't come up with the answers :P

None of them could see the hat on their own head. The king made them stand in a line. Then the king said, 'If you can guess the correct coulour of your hat, then you will go free. These are my hints: There are only black and white hats. There is at least one black hat and one white hat.' Alan could not see any hats. Bertrand could see Alan's hat but not his own. For those who got other answers, this is why there is only one answer:
Groups of 3 that multiply to give 36 are (and their sums in brackets);
1, 1, 36 (38)
1, 2, 18 (21)
1, 3, 12 (16)
1, 4, 9 (14)
1, 6, 6 (13)
2, 2, 9 (13)
2, 3, 6 (11)
3, 3, 4 (10)
She says that the sum of their ages adds up to the house number next door. If this number were any number other than 13, the salesman would be able to get the answer. However, he says it is still not enough information. She then goes on to say that her
oldest child plays piano. The 2 options left before this final clue were (2, 2, 9) and (1, 6, 6), and as the 2nd choice has no highest number, the ages of her kids must be 2, 2, and 9.
Look for those saying there isn't enough information there actually is. The key is working out why the salesman says there still isn't enough information after looking at the number of the house next door. So to work out why you get all the factors that multiply to 36 and add too. Which looks like this...
1, 1, 36 = 38
1, 2, 18 = 21
1, 3, 12 = 16
1, 4, 9 = 14
1, 6, 6 = 13
2, 2, 9 = 13
2, 3, 6 = 11
3, 3, 4 = 10
So if he had gone next door and seen the house number was for example 10, he would know the ages were 3, 3 and 4. But he came back confused, which means there had to be more than one way to add up the numbers to get the house number. Only ones for that add up to 13, which are 1, 6 and 6 or 2, 2 and 9.
Which is where the final clue comes in. She said the oldest plays piano, so you can assume it is the 2, 2 and 9 rather than 6, 6 and 1.

The king collects the gold every six days from the plate. If the peasant only has one six pound block of gold (which is in the shape of a rectangular prism), how can he make only two parallel cuts and still follow the kings rules each day?

Fantasy gun has basically got it, but I feel he hasn't explained it all that well. So I'll explain it for you guys.
So there are 100 coins, 90 heads and 10 tails.
Pick a random group of 10 coins and put them in a pile, call this Pile A. The other 90 are in another pile (pile B), so there are your two piles.
In Pile A you could have 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10 coins showing tails. In Pile B it will be the complete reverse, so if there are 7 tails in pile A there will be 3 tails in pile B, or if there are 4 tails in pile A there will be 6 in pile B.
You get the 10 coins in pile A and flip them all over to face the other way. This means if there were 7 tails in pile A before there would now only be 3, which would match the same number in pile B.

Ok I'll give you all a riddle...
3 guys are having an argument and decide the only way to settle it is via a duel. So the three men go outside with their guns, and decide they will take turns to fire one shot each until there is one left. Allan, who only hits his target one third of the time gets to shoot first. Barry, who only hits his target two thirds of the time gets to shoot second (assuming he did not die), whist Chris, who always hits his target will shoot third (providing he is still alive). This process will continue until just one remains.
So assuming you are Allan, where should you shoot with your first shot to give you your best odds of staying alive?
I would Chris, if I miss oh well but if I kill him then Barry gets a shot which he is less likely to kill me than Chris.
If I miss Chris, Barry will shoot Chris knowing knowing that Chris won't miss and then it will then be my turn again to have another chance and hopefully kill Barry this time.

Doesn't matter who you shoot first if you miss, so the only outcomes that matter are if you hit them. If you shoot barry first and kill him, then chris goes second and kills you. If you shoot chris first and kill him, then barry has a 2/3 chance of killing you.

I argued with my year 6 teacher on this one that there isn't enough information, hypothetically you could have simply been walking at a different pace to the man and his wives and crossed paths that way, or met at a cross road.

There's actually a number of answers.
As LF said, it could just be you that's going, and everyone else is irrelevant.
It could zero, like you said zip, due to the 2nd last line.
Could be 2, if it were just you and the man, and the man's wives weren't actually there, and he just told you all that information.
Basically, depending on your interpretation, there are about 8 or so answers.

I wasn't sure I had got it right, I was thinking the right answer might have been like have Ziplock carry the torch over, and have Nigey walk over at the same time (5 minutes), then when Nige gets to the other side have FG cross (two minutes) and then when he gets to the other side, have CrowsFan cross (1 minute), meaning they all cross in the 10 minutes Zip takes, and the torch is always on the bridge because Zippy has it... That's it. Basically just powers of 2 until you get to 256. Then al those numbers add up to (256*2) -1, which is 511. 1000-511=489.
