Title: NBA Trivia / Real-life basketball discussion
Post by: Jay on May 29, 2013, 06:03:56 PM
Thought this might be a handy thread. Any of you play basketball? What are you like? Career best moments? Strengths + weaknesses? Anything! ;D

I'm a huge NBA 2k fan, own 13 and can't wait for 14 to come out. How's your mycareer going? Have a gun association team? If you want to piss off Master Q, vs him and three point cheese! Warning he may rage quit! ;)

Thinking of holding a trivia night soon, anyone keen?

Discuss!

Haha good man. Tbag = 3pt specialist!

I just do social. Played 2 games since returning and have shot 12-15 and averaging 8 assists + a few rebounds. Starting to get back into it!

Played 2 games, touched the ball like twice & I got a couple of free throws.

One was an air ball & the other wasn't much better.

I formally retired after that.

On 2k13 I got drafted by the pistons @ 9 & got rookie of the year & averaged 22 points, 4 assists & 4 boards in 9 min qtrs.

Never bought a 2k game?

I've got them last 3 years. 10-13

Also, I haven't played for a while, but I carried my Pistons team to 7th seed and its game 7 vs New York @ NY.

I'm to nervous to play it!  :P

2k has been a far superior game for a few years now. I remember getting the Live and 2k games back in 2010. Live was just shiny and all glitchy. Although it took some getting used to the complex controls of 2k in comparison, it was easily the better game.

Hence why they have not made them in the last few years. They are complete trash. When this video leaked EA pulled the game and have not made one since

There was also the Jesus glitch.

I've had 2k since 11' on the PS3. Had some older ones on the Wii as well  :P

I play in Summer basketball leagues, too busy in Winter. I'm a bit of a combo guard, I've got the handling and passing to play point, but the outside shot to play at SG. Last season I didn't hit a Free Throw till the last game, where I went 2-4  :-X

Just stumbled on to this thread :P. Haven't followed NBA in years and haven't got a Basketball game since 2k10 on PS2. Use to prefer the Live games like 2004/05, but couldn't compete with 2k as the years went on :-X. May see if I buy the new one on PC as usually buy one every few years and think they stopped producing for PS2 :P.

I only play basketball for a bit of fun like once a week every like 2-3 weeks (like 3 vs 3 or 2 vs 2). I am an alright shooter but better passer and defender. Don't have the handles to be a Point, can't shoot well enough to be a SG but can rebound a bit dispite being vertically challenged ;D. Probably a SF for skills :P.

Started a new association today for procrastination. Decided to rebuild the Hornets Pelicans!  8)

2 minute Q's (4 minutes when simulating) and 29 game seasons so I can get through them quick. Playing on All-Star, started the season 3-3.

Traded my first round pick from this year + a spud for Michael Kidd-Gilchrist! Figure if I'm going to go alright my pick won't be worth as much as other teams think because I'm the damn Pelicans :P
Getting MKG is a massive plus too. He's a god on D, blocking shots, crashing boards and has decent perimeter + post defense.

Austin Rivers and Anthony Davis kill it too. Davis struggles against big centers though :(
Need another big man so he can drop to PF.

Thinking I might trade Eric Gordon. His shot showers me up the wall! Gets blocked so much because of his low release. Plus I wanna free up some cap so I can get Dwight Howard (I wish), Chris Paul or even better because of my young team, Brandon Jennings, who are all free agents next season  8)

Vasquez/Rivers
Gordon
MKG
Anderson (nothing but threes!)
Davis

I often find that my stats are skewed if the play/sim time is the same. Depends on your game style... Normally 8 min gets me realistic stats on 12min sim

Yeah, I played a fantasy draft one last year with Jrue, Love and Ibaka my first three picks. Jrue won the MVP, Love was second and Ibaka third :P
I think I might tone it down to three minutes, but you definitely need to give the sim games more time.

Why do you need to give sim more time?

---

I just started a "speed-run" association with Phoneix. 3 minutes qrts both real and sim. Aiming to build my team around Dragic - Lost to Atlanta in the first game but then beat the Bulls, and simulated the next game against the Hornets which I won.

Haven't done much trading as the Suns are actually quite balanced. I did two trades both with SA though, overall I got Green (SG) and Mills (6th man) as well as Diaw and a first round pick, for Shannon Brown and some other guys I didn't really need.

Dragic is my centre-piece all-rounder, Green is great when it comes to driving and knocking down threes, Beasley is there for driving and Scola & Gortat are a fantastic combo inside. Mills and Dudley provide shooting off the bench and J.O'Neal is the backup for Gortat.

So it's not super bias toward my team. Like before I said three of my players were top 3 in the MVP candidates when I finished like 5th. I just score heaps more than sim games when they're on the same minutes.

It might just be that I'm a good scorer but poor as hell on D :P

Pretty much every team is happy to give up their first pick for Scola, includ. Cavs and Magic...

Would you take it?

Wait, are you talking Anthony Davis? If you are, DO IT.

I just traded Gordon + Aminu (who sucked on 2k - or I dunno, maybe I couldn't use him. Wasn't quick enough to drive and didn't have an outside shot. I was like, what's the point?) for Harden + Perkins. Means I can play Davis at PF while he develops.

I like Hardens shot more than Gordon's too, which was a main reason for trading. Plus more cap room  8)

No way to get Davis, so I deleted my post  :P

Not that happy with Scola + Gortat to be honest. Scola is great but he is really old, plus my backup C is J.O'Neal who is crap. Indiana offered me Granger and Hansborough for them but that'd mean Granger or Beasley would play PF, and one of Hansborough or O'Neal would be Centre...

Yeah, I wouldn't be happy with it either... why I didn't pick up the Suns :P

Get rid of Scola, Gortat and Beasley :P

Davis is incredibly hard to get on 2k. Had a simulation dynasty where I tried to trade 94 DMC for 88 Davis and they wouldn't take it.

Yes. I think there is a glitch that you can't start an association with the new rosters... So what you have to do is make one with the old rosters, then quit and make a new one and replace your old one... Then it works.

I'm looking at off loading Scola and Gortat if I need too, but Beasley is an athletic SF which means he is automatically OP and he's great at driving and scoring inside. Plus he's young.

No clue but I'm guessing its pretty low as he wouldn't have been involved in many game 7's... maybe, 6?

If only Jordan was a clutch as Lebron, when the game is on the line who stands up? Lebron.

Lebron game 7 this year.

Was funny actually. Couple of regs from another forum were discussing LeBron's lack of WIM. This guy who is a well respected poster and an analyst for bleacher I believe too said this :

Quotecomplete bs. yes he quit that celtics series and thats big deal. but he was absurd in all the other years.

starting with his first playoff series vs a wiz team that many picked to win, he opened with a triple double and went on to hit 2 game winners in the closing seconds and found damon jones for another game winning shot.

the next series he led a cavs team to a near upset of a rediculously heavy favored pistons team. i think the books had the pistons at like 50/50 to sweep. if drew gooden wouldnt have forgotten he was on a basketball court and grabbed a rebound that hit him in the hands, that series was over in 6.

next year cavs beat the wiz and nets in series that the books had close to even. then ofc the epic 25 pts in a row to completely soulpozz and dismantle a perennial contender in the pistons. what ppl dont rememeber about that series is the cavs were really down in the dumps after donyell marshall missed a wide open game winning 3 (labron obv drew the d and passed to him) and then in game 2 lebron missed a game winning layup when he was blatantly fouled about 3 times including rip hamilton slapping his elbow just prior to the release. no one remembers the adversity he overcame.

then ofc the orlando series. one of the best playoff performances of all time. the game winner with 1.2s ya. but the rest of the cavs just completely sucked ass, shooting like 25% from 3 and getting bent over by dwight howard. labron avged 38.5 pts/game on 59% true shooting. 231 pts on 154 shots lol. 8.3rb/game and 8ast/g.

just absurd for the modern era. only shaq, jordan and olajuwon of the last 20 yrs have series that remotely compare.

the labron postseason narrative is one the most disgusting myths that is perpetuated in sports. just blatantly false. he has unequivocally been the best playoff performer since shaq.

I tend to agree with him as well. Guy has been beast but his mistakes get outlined so much by newspaper columnists and people like Skip Bayless who don't really have a clue whats going on.

When Cavs made the finals, it was a weak period in the nba. AND HE GOT SWEPT HAHAHA. "the greatest of all time" should never get swept in the finals.

Love it how you act as if Lebron has been going up against guys at the level of Magic, Bird, Thomas, Malone, Stockton etc.

MJ dominated the most dominant era of the NBA. Lebron is doing well (lost 2 finals) in an average era of NBA.

Really? "Doing well"

Highest PER since Jordan, 4 MVP's, 2 Rings, 2 Finals MVP's. If that's doing well, than anyone else is a failure. Howard, Kobe, Durant, CP3, Duncan, KG. Must be doing pretty bad. He has dominated the past 6 years like an all time great does. The teams are more stacked than they were back then too.

Never played with Bird, Magic, Malone in their primes either. Jordan was just a rookie. He got owned by these guys because of it. 63 points, but still got swept.

If only LeBron had Scottie pippen a top 50 player in his prime and Rodman the best rebounder of all time. LeBron has a guy as good as pippen except he is old and has knee problems and is a shell of hid old self and a undersized big man who can't grab boards and is just an oversized shooter.

Given LeBron those 2 and he would have 6+ rings in this weak era. The weak eta argument is mute when lebrons teammates in clevaland are terrible even compared to the weak opposition.

At least pippen and Rodman were hood players.

Probs should've quoted him. I think the Heat without Lebron would've gone down second round tbh, but it's all hypothetical.

For now, Jordan > Lebron, but who knows at the end of their careers. We saw an MJ like performance in Game 7 this year no doubt.

I had huge respect for Ray as a Celtic, his big shots down the stretch were good times. NBA Finals 2008, Ray blows by Sasha Vucevic and lays it up for the win. That's one of the greatest moments in Celtic history. That was better than the Miami shot. Ray Allen's biggest moment by far.

Then he decides to be a tossbag and leave the guys that got him his 1st ring... To the arch rival for less money :o flowerhead. I'll be extremely angry if his number is retired by Boston.

I know theres been a bunch for Miami. However, I doubt they played more than 30mins. Fisher iirc had a 0 game in 08 or 09. He was the starting PG for Lakers, so I assume it was over 30. So, I'm going with the terrible player who deserves 0 rings, in Derrick Fisher.

Who has the most 10+ point games in the NBA....?

Bonus Question: Who holds the record for most consecutive games with at least one steal?

Is it current or not? If not, I know Kareem has the most 10+ point games ever. Think MJ has the most consecutive? No idea if its current NBA though... This reminds me, remember Lebron's 8 point NBA finals game? Hahahha

The bonus question is Chris Paul :P
