Title: Which ruck has most scope for improvement this year?
Post by: Dutchie64 on March 01, 2013, 09:37:40 PM
I am struggling for a ruck atm.

Have got Cox in my forward line but not sure who to go with to pair up with Luey

At this stage most people seem to have gone with Goldy for durability/price rather than a lift in points scored?! Am I correct in assuming this?

Who would have the biggest scope of improvement this year? Bellchambers, Jacobs or even......Zac Smith?

Currently I have McEvoy but am not sure about his selection in my team (haven't got anymore money in the kitty to go to a higher priced ruck)

PS. Like most I had a horror run with rucks last year.......Mumford, followed by Sandi. At least my cheap ruck didn't let me down last year......

zac smith looks likely to have a brekaout year, starting his third preseason ( well fourth if you count the year before the suns joined the afl) , hasnt missed too many games and with the players around him also getting better, it can only help him to push up his avg to at least 85+ i reckon

Mumford, Zac Smith, Bellchambers & Goldstein's all looking at an improvement in average this season I would think ;)

Well, I think Longer has the biggest scope for improvement but obviously you shouldn't pick him as R1.

I say Jacobs.

might take a punt on griffin from freo, reckon he'll do pretty well in sandi's place. he'll prolly get dropped when he comes back

but, by then we'll get a better idea of which ruckman will be on song. he averaged about 82 in his last 10 games in dt

and about 95 in sc. he just may sense its his opportunity to cement his place. sandi is getting toward the end of the road

and is copping injury after injury

Huge risk with Saints and Sydney first up... McEvoy + Hickey then Mumford + Pyke. Smith has some easy fixtures after that, but I'll hop on if he shows some form and take a punt on starting someone else.

I reckon 90-95 if he does take on the role as our number 1 ruck. Will watch the next two weeks closely.

Zac Smith or Bellchambers.

I'm so very tempted to get on Zmith, reckon he will really establish himself and nudge 85!

people are picking goldy becase he is priced at 80 and averaged 99 in 2011. He was hurt last year by hmac playing in the same squad, Hmac is gone now. Goldy played through injury and sickness last year, however if you count the games where he was actually fit and health he averaged high 90s with Hmac out of the squad.

I have him out of the side at the moment with cox and burger in the rucks. If he goes alright in the nab he is back in.

However if you have cox up front just bring him into the ruckline, there are better forwards than rucks. So bring cox in the rucks and pick up someone like cloke, sylvia etc...

Cox Goldy Mummy Burger are the only rucks i would look at.

I do agree with you on that strategy and it is certainly an option, especially with the 44 trades this season.

Maybe I'm still "scarred" from last season with my ruck selection and have gone with the DPP option with Rowe as R3/4

I'll have a play around and see if it improves things (on paper at least.....LOL)

Thanks for the great responses to the thread guys!!! :)

I reckon people think he won't score as well as he did last yer.

Don't have him in DT atm but have him in my UF league  8)

My top 5 rucks
Cox- 98
Maric- 97
Ryder- 94
Bellchambers- 92
Roughead- 92

imo you have to have one of them unless you're being a super cheap-arse.

Sandi will avg about 95...when he plays...

I dont pay full price for players who only have had one premo year. So no zorko, danger, beams, maric, cotchin in my starting sqaud. I didnt start goldy for that reason last year.

I dont see maric lfiting his average and i would rather go for a proven player if im just intending their average to stay around the same. So cox over maric anyday.

Just feel with goldy at 400k and mummy at 420k they pose less risk as i cant see them dropping (unless injured). Goldy for me backed up his scoring of 2011 to an extent, for games where he was hmacless and fit he went around 95.

Maric could do a cloke who knows, however i do pick up guys who have had an off year, so goldy and cloke im looking at,.

Yeah I have Cox, not really a fan of Belly and Ryder and unsure about Maric and Roughy  :-\ At this stage I have Goldy and Burger, with Cox up front linking with Rowe.

I think you're talking shower with Belly/Ryder but I hope not...

Where's Sauce and Big Boy McEvoy in that top 5?

i'm really looking for 85+ as an R1 (90 would be ideal, but considering only 5 rucks topped that last year, i'm not holding my breath)

of the 5
Cox is in the forwards
Roughy i'm not convinced on
Ryder's too inconsistent
Sandi's injured
and MAric is too darn exxy

i currently have Minson
