For the purposes of calculating the Guru scores, I have had a very preliminary lash at guessing what the round 1 teams of all 18 AFL teams are going to be in 2013. I will reproduce these guesses below.
What I would like you to do is critique these selections, and suggest improvements. Please bear in mind that teams do usually pick three talls at either end, so don't suggest 15 midfielders. Also, if you could please specify who you think should be removed when you suggest an in, that would help things greatly.
In particular, teams usually pick 15-20 debutantes each year in R1 in total, so if you could keep that in mind when you pick your sides, that would be handy - note, I didn't follow this rule, so I need a bit of help figuring out which rookies will debut!
I'll be dropping in to this thread occasionally and joining in, updating the OP where appropriate. There will probably be multiple versions of this thread leading up to R1, especially after the PSD and during the NAB.

as for GWS- that's pretty solid. Honestly though, I'd be putting Gilham at FB, cornes on the IC and probably hoskin elliot or darley out. You don't quite have enough talls up front, and Cornes' versatility would be better used with gilham in the team. That being said, probably the hardest team to pick- we're going to want to get as many games as possible into our new recruits.
Actually, I'd take Darley out, put palmer into HB, coniglio into the mids and Treloar into the team at half forward, with hoskin elliot coming out for gilham.

Dees should line up with one midfielder in the backline (at the most) which will be Grimes or no-one at all.
Up front Dawes, Pedersen and Clark cover 3 spots, which leaves Sylvia, Howe, Trengove, Davey and Byrnes to take 3 of the others (lets assume Davey, Howe, Byrnes)
Now there will be 5 onfield midfielders of whom the following are in front of Jones - Trengove, Sylvia, McKenzie, N.Jones, Viney, Rodan, Bail and Magner. (lets assume - Sylvia, N.Jones, McKenzie, Trengove and Viney)
On the bench will be anywhere from 2-3 mids of which Rodan (possible sub), Magner and Bail are still ahead of Jones.
In my opinion i can't see him making our best 22, however your opinion is valid as is everyones and Neeld and co. may in fact share your view KB. :)

Nice work Monty. Nailed it pretty well but Beams, Lester and Bewick all ahead of Zorko. Do not think so. Also suspect Docherty is still a little way off and Maguire will play Full Back and Hanley CHB. Moloney may start in the centre with Rockliff forward instead of Lester. With the Collingwood side, a few changes should probably be made.
Firstly, NICK MAXWELL needs to be in the side since he is the captain :) Omit Clarke?
Sinclair should be replaced with krakouer on the field, blair could be the sub and LACHLAN KEEFE replaced for sinclair.
Keefe was playing amazing regular football before his knee injury. Keefe, Jordan Russel and Goldsack I feel are fighting for the same spot. Goldsack could also be Ben Johnson but probably only 50% of matches.

Looks good monty. A few minor changes I would like to offer up.
Swap Gaffy and Masten and move Masten to the bench and bring on Embley. Think Masto could provide more from the bench and when Embers is on he is a match winner.
Swap Hill and Shuey. Shuey is a ball winner, no good having him stuck in the forward pocket!!
I would have Sam Butler over Adam Selwood but again it's personal preference and probably provides less defensive cover there so it may it happen.
Emergencies would be Dick, Brennan, A. Selwood.
Sheppard, Smith, Hams and McGinnitynvery stiff to miss. Not a bad effort though man :)

Embley is a burst player these days, Masten is young enough to run all day.
Butler v Adam Selwood is a tough one, no doubt.
McGinnity is depth at best, for mine. His strength is that he knows the gameplan and sticks to it, but he doesn't have many superior physical attributes. Hams got sidelined late last year. I didn't see enough from Smith to suggest he's best 22 at this stage. As for Sheppard, they're obviously committed to him long term, but that defensive small forward role really didn't agree with him this year, and would be filled by Nico next year, so it's hard to find a spot for him.

Salter I think still has some promise, good point on O'Shea though. It's not a hard 22 to get into. ;)

As soon as Lee went to St Kilda I predicted he'd take Milera's spot and I still think that will be the case. It wouldn't surprise me if he was also ahead of TDL in their thinking.
They gave up Pick 12 and got Lee and Picks 24 and 43. So they relinquished a shot at some very talented young players to get him in. I definitely reckon he'll be in the calculations come Round 1.

Broughts did play in the middle and then he went forward late in the season. RTB never said Broughts would stay in the middle all season
Yeah good job monty, thanks for the work you have put in. There is however a lot of water to go under the bridge until round 1, plenty of time for injuries and we won't be completely sure until the teams are named. Regarding the hawks I reckon Hill will be more likely to start as sub than Anderson for us.
Port will be an interesting one to watch i think they have plenty of space to get some early games into rookies. Wines is a lock for the 22 but Colquhon and Kane Mitchell might be able to squeeze into the team round 1. I watched alot of Mitchell in the WAFl and if he goes in round 1 i cant see him getting pushed out.
I think both Port and Melb will both be interesting round 1 teams!!!
Even the Bulldogs as well. Both should have a lot of rookies and value around their clubs.

I'd imagine Brad Hill would fill that last bench spot for the Hawks rather than Anderson.
Didn't Stevie J just get himself suspended round 1? Maybe shift Stokes in there and D.Menzel to the bench?
I would imagine Puopolo would be ahead of both Hill and Anderson if he recovers from bone bruising in time.
For Brissy I'd shuffle Adcock to Golby's position, Golby to the bench and Moloney to the middle. Karnezis could push his way in with a few strong games pre season too.
For the Dodgies if B.Goodes get the promotion I think he'll play round one, his disposal was very good in the first couple of NAB games and I think a player with his experience could walk into their best 22. Maybe at the expense of Ruffy or Cordy if they go small or possibly Clay Smith.
Elliott gets my vote ahead of Clarke for the pies. A hard, marking, contested tackling machine fits better for me there than another outside runner in Clarke. They have a lot of those already especially with Young in there now and Sidebum on the bench.
I'm prtty sure Brad Scott has a back up ruck in mind with Daw and Currie and I believe one of them will line up round one. Mullett to give way?
I don't think Gray will get up round 1 for Power, maybe a round 3-4 proposition. The other Stewart, Pfeiffer or Moore could fill that void til he gets back.
I agree with Melbourne starting 3 maybe 4 rooks, they need to get games into these guys early. I could see Kent squeezing his way in too if he keeps up his round 1 NAB form. But Dunn, Sellar, Blease don't get a mention? Hmm they'll play during the year but round one this team is anyone's guess.
That's all I got atm, gimme a week and I'll change my mind completely :P

Theres no ROLLING lockout. It just PARTIAL so by Friday night all of our Bombers, Crows, Eagles and Dockers players are LOCKED IN and we aren't able to bring any players in from the aforementioned teams.
