Would have though Johnson and Goldsack are locks for the best 22?

At the expense of Didak and Elliot

Totally forgot about those 2 lol
Yeah didak and Elliot out! Blair to the bench and Goldsack into the forwardline. Didak and Johnson are fighting eachother for a spot!

Gotta love Elliot tho, he will be a genuine gun one day

IMHO

Maxwell, Brown, Toovey
Young, Reid, Harry O
Shaw, Swan, Sidebum
Daisy, Cloke, Fasolo
Didak, Lynch, Krakouer

Jolly, Ball, Pendles

(INT) Beams, Keefe, Goldsack Sub: Blair

(EMG) Johnson, Maccaffer, Clarke, Elliott then Sinclair, Williams, Witts + 3x first round picks ;)

Sooo much depth for the pies but a lack of quality pure inside mids besides ball.

I think benny johnson will only play 50% of games this year due to age to keep him fresh. Similar to didak (75% of games).

Its a very strong team the Pies have. Too many are discounting them or simply forgetting how lethal they really are!

After the draft tonight i don't see use dropping off the mark for at least the next 5 years. Serious chance at the flag next year! Grundy will be a star and will form a deadly combination with ben kennedy over the next decade. As a Tiger fan i am scared haha

I also forgot Jordan Russell

Now add Grundy and Ben Kennedy in as well and suddenly we have a best 32 players! :O Not including Broomhead and other lesser known players too :S

I'd think Maccaffer would get a spot :o

Grundy/Kennedy are not in the best 22 for 2013.

Both will play some games, but will need to really step up to hold a spot come the business end of the season.

Boys would love update thoughts on your best 22 now NAB has started??
Mostly interested in where Macaffer and Russell sit and also Martin

I cannot see the Pies not using the run and delivery of Russell off halfback, Shaw is accoutnable and ofter cannot get free to counter attack Russell seems a perfect fit to be a better "marty Clarke" .

Macaffer is the best defensive fwd we have he has to play his pressure and the fact he will wear JMac's # makes him a certain starter, one we need him two he wouldn't be given the number to wear if he was to sit on the bench all season or play in the magoos.

Didak is on the outer can't see him getting a game without a vest - never understood why but if that's clear now i don't know what is...

Krak will come back in, Ball is a lock inside mid.

Cue Stick is a lock, young could play off a wing but we have too many mids and too many fwds, something has to give...

Where do you guys see Benny Kennedy in the team atm?

Reckon he'll get some more games or will his time in the seniors be shortlived?

his time in the seniors will be short lived , they will slot him in for a few as sub you would think but too much talent to fit in rooks, and too much catching up to do now to not play the best 22.

Kennedy will be a gun but too much competition,

krak, caff, daisy, young, fasolo, elliot, cloke, lynch, sidey, blair

all these guys go through the fwd line or line up in it....

then the fringe has seedsman, didak, moneybags, dwyer,

in a couple more weeks PLEASE GOD !

Followers: Jolly - Ball - Pendles

Centres: Beams - Swan - one of (Daisy,Blair,Sidey)

think we need more run on the wing, be good to get young in and see how he goes, can see blair and sidey going through the middle but playing a LOT more fwd with beams and ball back.

Kennedy looks like he's a gun should get some games into him i'd be playing him over Dwyer

Thanks CW!

Yeah the kid is a gun saw him play some games in Adelaide for the Bays but agree with you in that he has so much competition in the team it will be hard for him to be a regular.. Might get games for the next two while Fas is suspended, but after that might be gone?

Just trying to figure out whether I should be trying to organise trades to fit him in :P But don't think I will, JS is just too questionable :(

Always some injuries/suspensions happening Toga

Dwyer has managed to keep his spot I think Kennedy is better then him but will be different when Ball, Beams and Fasolo are back actually I think Kennedy better then Fasolo to

If he plays a full game this week and scores ok and named next week I'm getting him in

Really interesting to read back over the predictions from pre-season. Fairly disappointing return from our 'bargain pickups this year in Russell, Young and Lynch tbh. Obviously injuries have taken their toll but no one would really have predicted the rookies coming in and having such a massive impact though, real positive!

More of a question for next year, but do you see Kyle Martin staying at the Pies and if so getting games? Seems like the VFL is far too easy for him (averaging 25.3 disposals, 5.5 marks, 7.6 tackles, 2.8 goals and 129.9 DT points), but has only managed the 4 games for the Pies (and looked pretty good in them). Seems like if he was at pretty much any other club he would be starting week in week out. Anyway what do you guys think?

Would have to get something decent in return for him, you're right in saying that he's shown a lot of promise though!

I've heard that although Martin will get plenty of it in the VFL some of his skills aren't up to AFL standard and he can lack defensive pressure. Me being in Brisbane this isn't info coming from my own eyes, so it may be completely off the mark. I think its more we cant find a spot in the team for him.

On another note Daisy was injured again today, surely his contract wont be as big as he wanted at the start of the season.

Interesting point BGK about defensive pressure as I would have thought averaging 7.6 tackles a game meant your defensive pressure was really high. Just looked at the AFL stats and only 4 players average 7 or more tackles a game, and they are Whiley (8.2, 5 games), Kelly (7.7, 14 games), S. Selwood (7.7, 15 games), Jack (7, 19 games).

But as you were saying your midfield is just so strong that there isn't really a place for him, so makes you wonder why they drafted him to begin with. From the games I saw of him I really liked his attitude towards the game, so hopefully gets more opportunities in the future.

You make an excellent point CF and I have no decent answer, Lol. As I've never had the pleasure of watching him play I can only go by what Victorian friends have said and things I've read around the place. As we both said I believe he's probably more a victim of being at a club with a high quality midfield.
