Title: 2013 Player Profile: Greg Broughton
Post by: elephants on September 09, 2012, 08:06:22 PM
Greg Broughton - Freo Dockers

Position: BACK

Price: $374,000 (Fanplanner)

2011 Games: 21

2012 Games: 15

2011 Average: 84.1

2012 Average: 78.9

2012 Tons: 2 + a score of 99

Summary: Before I start, could we just keep the comments clean :P Despite being absolutely terrible this year he averaged a respectable 79 after three years of greatness with 84, 87 and 81 points per game coming in from the mature aged recruit. When played in the right position and when allowed the time and space, Gregory is a DT slut. Under Lyon's new game plan however the Duffman is seemingly favoured.

Verdict: ... Waiting. I wanna lock him in simply because he will be a massive POD as a mjority of people have been crucified by him. Personally, I haven't which is why I'm so eager! I think that Duffield taking up the slutty half back role and potentially Goddard to join him next season will hamper his scoring too much. No thanks!

Ele's prediction: Average of 75 if Goddard heads West or 87 if all things remain as is.

Steering clear of Broughton this year unless he somehow finds consistency.

hmmm I've never been burnt by Broughts....might take the punt  ;)
haha nah...if there werent so many good premo defenders this year then I would possibly consider, otherwise no thanks.

Hell no not in a million years
Lyon moves him around too much he is also used as a tagger causing his DT scores to suffer

New I would forget to mention something! The tagging role...

Thanks LF :)

No thanks. Didn't have him this year thankfully but I don't expect things to improve much,
Title: Re: 2013 Player Profile: Greg Broughton
Post by: Ricochet on September 09, 2012, 08:25:30 PM
its a hard one because the first half of the year Lyon was still experimenting and trying the implement his game plan. Even guys like pavlich and barlow were below par DT wise. Then everything clicked. Broughts was played in positions that benefit the team not our DT scores. And he was playing with injuries.
I'm going to wait and see on this one. i think freo's "lock down defenders" are pretty much set atm so he might go back to his DT relevant ways. im not overly keen on him but im just saying don't count him out

...Wouldn't be surprised if he comes back and destroys it.

Will probably turn out to be one of the steals of the season at his price..... :P

Still a NO from me.  ::)

I want to see what Rossy is doing with him before I jump on. If he looks like returning to that mid / def role he used to score well in then Ill jump back on... Won't be start of the year though.

Rivals circle Freo defender

GREG Broughton could be on the move from Fremantle with Port Adelaide having shown interest in trading for him before this Friday's 2pm deadline.

Never had him before, but even if he did move, I wouldn't start him.

Too many better options, and is much safer to look at him as an upgrade target.

Yes! I knew someone would quote that post! :D

With Broughton, his role is constantly changing, so if he's playing lockdown during NAB, pick him, if he's through the midfield and named on the ball, then don't get him since he'll change roles. :P

He's such a confusing player, hopefully Gold Coast (assuming he goes) can give him a role for him to play. :)

I reckon he is defs relevent if picked up by the suns.
Backline of
Murphy warnock tape
Harbrow/mckenzie bock broughton

Would see him slut it up i reckon. He wont be mucked around like he was at freo i reckon. He will be locked into a running half back where he plays his best footy. With his inclusion it'll free harbrow or mckenzie to play higher up the ground. If mckenzie is listed as a back, this might make me a bit more tempted to take a punt  8)

Broughton's move has made Duffman even more of a lock! Check this out:

Paul Duffield

Average between rounds 1-16 = 79.1

*Broughton out for the season rounds 17+

Average between 17-23 = 101.8

With Broughton at the GCS, Duffield could be in for a 90+ average....lock!

Reasonable price as well, will definitely look at him but it could be hard to fit him in with Goddard, Grimes and Gibbs locked for me...

All aboard the Gregory Train! ;D

QuoteBroughton has made a name for himself in defence and it’s a role he likely to continue playing for the Gold Coast SUNS after an initial chat with coach Guy McKenna, something Broughton is quite comfortable with.

“For most of my career I have played in defence, so my main preferred position is in the back line,” he said.

I had a quick chat to Bluey after everything was done, and he eluded my role will primarily be down back with some stints in the midfield if required.

I think he's shown that played in the right position, he can score quite freely. Add to that that he may be back/forward, would definately make him worth a look. ( even though iv'e been burnt a few times :-\ )

I wouldn't be saying that he is a DPP. Fanplanner have him listed as a back only at this stage...

He may get it, but I wouldn't be counting on it.

They posted it on Twitter

Greg Broughton. Would he be a chance for DPP?" Good question. Personally I think defender only. @FanantasyFreako @Lumpy0305 ?

@RLGriffin85 @jggeddes He will be a Def/Fwd. Will probably play majority defence I reckon, but all we can go by is what we saw in 2012.

The quietly spoken defender said he wanted a new challenge and intended on cementing his spot across half-back.

"That's the plan. I've been training in that spot over the pre-season and plan to do so going forward.

"Bluey has said I'm the only one that can lose that spot. It's an exciting young group and I'm looking forward to starting in the next month

I can't remember where I saw it but I read yesterday that GC want to play Stanley in a more permanent midfield/half forward role this year. What, if any, effect that will play on Brougton's scoring we'll have to see.

Well if he plays a half-back role then its a good thing .. this was about Broughton not Stanley .. Broughton can average big if he plays a dreamteam friendly role and this is good news for me personally as i think he's undervalued and also has DPP.
