Dt is about over for this year, thank god. So mulling over everything that has transpired this year, what will you do different in 2013?
I won't be selecting speculative mid pricers based on NAB cup form. As well taking in durability into account.
....Don't worry about a bye structure! ;)
Put more into the pre-seaon as you should know personally Windi my team is usually weaker at the start of the season.
lock in true premiums first rather than take a risk on could be's
would rather play an extra rookie and have the likes of Swan, Ablett, Lids, Beams, Buddy, etc all in my side at the very start
Hopefully I'll pick good, premium midfielders. So sick of Jelwood & Rocky spudding it up most of the time. Scotty Thompson hasnt been great either since I brought him in. Those three play every game while Gaz, Swanny & Pendles have missed games.
With all the forwards that will be losing DPP next season (Danger, Sidey, Beams, Fyfe), think I'll take some risks in the FWD line with a couple of premos, an underpriced Zaharakis (hopefully DPP) and mid-pricers Knights, Gray & LeCras.
Saying that there'll probably be new MID/FWD's who will be must haves.

+1 :)
Add a few more to my never again list:
Heath Shaw - For the final time. Never, ever again.
M. Johnson - He's never been consistent enough to be a premium.
N.Roo - Cost me a few games.
MAKE SURE I HAVE DANE SWAN IN MY TEAM!
I did pick John McCarthy at the start of the year and although it didnt turn out great, it didnt turn out shower. So for next year what are people's thoughts ATM about Brent Moloney and Michael Rischitelli. Both averaged around the 60 mark and should be about 300k. Moloney is probably going to another club while Rischitelli has struggled with an injury and not much of a pre-season. If Moloney goes to a good club and avoids tags, while Rischitelli plays in an improving suns midfield, both could average 85-90+ and be pretty decent picks.
What do u guys think??
Was happy with my league strategy but next year I might have a bit more of a balanced team at the start so I can improve my ranking :D
Will definitely select better rookies early in the season. Tommy Walsh and Horlin-Smith were risky picks that did nothing for me.
Not picking any Fremantle players apart from Clancee, he is a jet.
limit, minimise, remove if possible any key position players.... :o
I'll be picking a younger, more dynamic team. Will try to avoid players who aren't flexible in their roles and those who have certain personality traits (ie - idiots).

I think Fyfe should keep DPP.
I dont think 9 games is enough to determine if a player loses/gains DPP or not.
I picked a few uniques this year, some that worked (Shuey), some that failed miserably (Howard injured round 1), and some who worked ok (Christensen). In hindsight I would have gone with more rooks and premos, but it was a learning experience and my team finished off pretty well. I think we will have to pick a few midpricers next year though and I already have a few in mind ;)

Yeah thats his only chance I think, the fact he's only played 9 games.
make sure I have good ruck bench cover and stick to my guns and pick guys i rate now. not buy into the preseason hype.
Goldy Burger (Grundy, X) lock and load.

i think i'll be NicNat and Burgs
Jacobs/McEvoy + Berger (Grundy, Vardy)
Not play 3 rookie ruckman, although I can't see this being a legitimate option for next season.
pick proven premium players and ovoid injury prone players and make sure I have a Cox/gGiles ruck combo that does not need changing all year.

Will pick Goldy if he's the lone ruckman (no H-Mac). Will be heavily underpriced for what he's capable of.

Will find it hard to pick Vardy on the bench. He'll still be 180k. Then a Vardy burger combo is a bit too light on. Hopefully Grundy and Daniher play games as 3rd and 4th rucks.

Do you reckon Vardy is going to be good enough for R2?
Not picking Broughton is the most important thing I'll do differently. :P
I'll be trying to make sure my picks are more solid with less downside if they have a bad season, especially in the backline. Having to trade out all of Broughton, Golby, Duffield and Hargrave was one of the main reasons why I only finished around 10,000th this year. Plus my instincts told me not to trade in Michael Johnson, but I still did because of his round 12 bye, and sure enough he only averaged a smidgeon over 70 after I got him. Aside from the backline, Leigh Adams was my worst pick.
I also didn't get off to a very good start (35,540th after 3 rounds) despite having a lot of good picks in my starting 22, and I'm thinking having only 3 MID premiums and too many midpricers were the main reasons for that, even though none of my midpricers were terrible failures (okay, Adams was pretty close to a terrible failure :P).
Also, I'm surprised nobody who has mentioned their starting ruck combo has included Jarryd Roughead. Though he might average a bit less than this season, I think he will be absolute gold as cover for ruck injuries later in the season when you can move him into the forward line and trade in a second ruck-only premium and a minimum priced RUC/FWD rookie. Alternatively if one of the best starting ruck rookies is MPP it would be a good idea to start Roughead in the forward line. Though if someone like Cox gets MPP you would get him instead of Roughead.

Well Burger is a lock ATM. So only way i could fit Vardy in would be having him and burger as starting rucks. Would be very risky but if Burger averages 85+ and Vardy 70+ then you'd be laughing. Not the worst option really. Vardy was very impressive in his first game back. Definitly a thought :)
Picked up more mid priced players in the starting squad which was a fail --> McIntosh, Caddy, Hargraves & Lake. If i had my time should have gone guns and rookies only.
Started with Broughton & Shaw.
Will not start with Goodes or Martin next season either.
Lastly win not bring in a player at top dollar during first half of the season - for example stanton.
1) make sure I get the rooks right
2) don't pick and hope youngsters like Ziebell and Conca will rise to it
3) don't rage trade
4) don't trade to youngsters based on one biggie
5) do propper homework next year, (couldn't this year didn't have internet till late march)
im still unsure about what to do with my mids, do i start off with 2 prems and heaps of Rookies that will make cash and be easily upgraded but get less points, or go with more prems get a higher score and not make as much money for trades
1) I will get true premiums, guns(no Stanton, Selwood etc...).
2) Will try to go Guns & Rooks.
3) If i run out of good rooks/money/guns/whatever, THEN i will take the risk on a midpricer(unless there's bargains).
4) I will not pick Gregory Broughton, no matter the circumstances, and most likely no FREO players...
Pretty much it.
I do like the sound of a risky team though. Imagine if you pick like half of your team midpricers, and they all work out!!
Although it might only sound like that if you are too optimistic.
Andrew Embley as 4th or 5th mid at 230k??
2/2 sub rule, midpricers are the way to go :P

Has anyone actually made a preliminary side for next year. I have sort of. Worked out that the Magic number at the start of this year was about 4.947. So I'm just assuming it will be the same next year. Also give a 10% discount for players that have played 7-10 games, 20% for players that have played 4-6 matches, 30% discount for players that have played 1-3 games and 40% for players who havent played. Obviously guessing a bit here but have left 350k in the bank from this years salary cap :)

Geez your keen mate. To be honest i dont really want to think about it that much for awhile but i give you 10/10
for enthusiasm. Im going to sit back enjoy a good finals series and get back into Fantasy Footy about December, i'll be busy building leagues inbetween now and then, contacting people etc that will be enough for me for awhile.

Yeah I reckon that was my mistake last year. Started planning in August and got bored by May when my team went off the rails...
Not starting a fanplanner until January (in Tassie for all of December so no internet no DT) :D
No key forwards or defenders, except buddy maybe.
What will I do differently? I will do well.
Get Trent Cotchin!!!
id like to say i will not use trades stupidly .. but ive been saying that for years ;D

Id like to say that to, always seem to find 2 or 3 where i ask myself Grazz what on earth were you thinking.
Win.
Have more than 1 trade left going into finals...
I'm actually thinking of risking Stanton in 2013... they'll probably have a soft draw with their poor fiinsh and he killed it at the start of the season. At $360k could he be a good cash cow option...? then trade out at round 10 when he hits $550k to a real premium because he cant play a full season?
Wont be 360k like he finished. Prices are on average and overall he still averaged 105 so will still be pre expensive.
Next year will be a completely different kettle of fish as there will be no new club to pick a plethora of rookies from. This will be my 4th season so apart from my initial year which I sucked at my two other years had suns and gws cash cows. Some of you experienced guys could advise on how to guide on selecting rookies for 2013
less rookies more value pick mid pricers..

Plenty of information will go up on the boards mate regarding rookies etc, we had some outstanding contributors doing this for both forms DT and SC and they will reproduce the same for 2013 so you will have loads of information to help you along the way.
Any problem or question you have that hasnt been answered or covered feel free to start a topic and gain advice that way.
From around December i would imagine stuff will start to go up on the boards. Goodluck for 2013.
