Title: World XVs - Round 1 (Rivalry)
Post by: ossie85 on March 17, 2012, 08:18:09 PM
ROUND 1! A Reminder that matches start round 1, with the rivalry cup! C4's done a terrific job of the preseason, and hopefully the real thing is just as much fun.

Submitting a Team For Round 1

Teams must be submitted (in full) before the start of the Swans-Giants match.

You can change all non-Swans/Giants players before Thursday's Blues/Tigers match, but all Swans-Giants players (selections, captaincy, vice-captains, emergency) are locked in (same as DT and SC comps)

You can change all non-Swans/Giants/Blues/Tigers before Friday's Hawks/Pies match, but all Swans-Giants-Blues-Tigers players (selections, captaincy, vice-captains, emergency) are locked in (same as DT and SC comps)

If you do not submit a team by the Swans-Giants match, the team selected will be the highest value players (determined by SC prices). You will also be SACKED and a new coach will be selected, unless you have a serious excuse (I forgot or bad internet doesn't count).

The rules:

Format for Team Selection
Def   Player A   Player B   Player C   Player D
Mids   Player E   Player F   Player G   Player H
Fwds   Player I   Player J   Player K   Player L
Ruck   Player M
Inter   Player N   Player O
Emer1   Player P
Emer2   Player Q
Emer3   Player R
Capt   1 From Players A - O
V-Capt   1 From Players A - O

Selection
Select 4 defenders, 4 midfielders, 4 forwards and 1 ruck
If you do not enough available for any position, you can choose any other type of player to play in that position. However, only half there score (rounded up) will count. (i.e. if you play Lance Franklin as a defender and he scores 103, only 52 points will count towards your total score)
Select 2 extra players from any position.
Select a Captain - Double points
Select a Vice-Captain - Double points if Captain doesn't play
Select 3 emergencies (see below)

Emergency Rules
THERE ARE NO SUBS

Emergency will play if a starting 15 member does not, but with conditions.

Emergencies can only replace players in the SAME position for full points.

However, if a player on the interchange is the same position as the player that pulled out, he will be moved into that position. The extra interchange spot will be filled by your FIRST preference listed emergency.

If neither the interchange or emergency can fill the position, the FIRST preference emergency will fill in but only HALF the score (rounded up) will count.

If two or emergencies are the same position (i.e. all midfielders), than the highest ranked preference will play (i.e. if Emer2 and Emer3 are both midfielders, Emer2 will be selected)

If an emergency is a Dual Position Player, he can be called into either position (i.e. if he is a Fwd/Mid, he can play as either a forward or mid)

If you have more than 3 players in your starting 15 not playing, the highest value (determined by SC Price) squad member from the rest of your team will play, but only a QUARTER (rounded up) of the score will count. I.e if Alan Toovey is the highest remaining squad member, and he scores 53, only 14 points will count towards your final score.

Submitting a Team (normally)
Teams must be submitted before SC lock-out, in the same format as above
If Teams are not submitted, the team listed from the previous round is assumed to be your team.

Tanking
If you TANK - and by tank make crazy selection decisions in order to gain better draft picks, you will forfeit your first selection in the draft.

Hmmm, i don't know about tanking, it's not that bad an issue. Just means easier games for those that don't tank. :P

How will you determine crazy selections?  I mean my fwd line is going to suck because 2 of my best fwds are out.

And that'll be fine :) But if you had Goddard in your back-line and decided to 'rest' him for Karmichael Hunt, well, thems-be-crazy

Unless Hunt is playing GWS... ;)

I also think that we should look at providing injury lists/statistics, that way it can give us a better insight into why certain people were chosen.

As has been stated, tanking would be pretty hard and may not even work without being obvious.

Funny how you're on the losing side of all 3 rivalries there :P
Brazil better than Argentina, Crows better than Port, and Ablett better than Swan. Guess that just means Pumas are better than Armadillos :P

Port - 17, Crows - 14. I disagree with the second one. Not sure how you got Brazil better than Argentina but i agree Ablett is a better player than Swan (just)

Preliminary team. After naming a near full-strength side last week, but with disappointing results, the Seoul Magpies have put everybody on notice.

This is a historic occasion, with the Magpies announcing "caps", much like the test cricketers, to determine a players number. The captain of round 1 will be given the #1, while the rest of the round 1 team will be given numbers in alphabetical order. Players from then on will be given numbers based on when they debuted for the mighty Magpies.

$2m man Tom Scully will not be available for selection, and neither will the experienced Luke Power. Leaving only Jude Bolton and Stephen Coniglio as the only truly viable Round 1 selections from the Giants/Swans, with Rhys Cooyou and Alex Brown told they would unlikely be considered.

Preliminary team:

B: B Deledio, C Yarran, H O'Brien, X Ellis

M: B Gibbs (capt), R Griffen (v-capt), J Kelly, J Bolton

R: B McEvoy

F: P Dangerfield, C Dawes, H Ballantyne, Alwyn Davey

I: L Anthony, S Coniglio

Emer1: C Dixon
Emer2: M Scarlett
Emer3: B Renouf

With Power and Macaffer injured, my forward-line stocks are VERY thin.

F: P Dangerfield, C Dawes, H Ballantyne, Alwyn Davey

While Jude Bolton played particularly well, and Coniglio was ok, the Magpies were rocked by the withdrawal of vice-captain Ryan Griffen through injury. Jack Steven takes his spot in the inaugural team, while Brett Deledio takes over Vice-Captaincy duties.

Griffen was very disappointed to miss the Round 1 clash, and to miss the Asian Cup play-off, but is hoping to contribute for the rest of the season.

Griffen joins Tom Scully, Jason Gram, Luke Power, Nick Maxwell and Brent Macaffer on the growing injury list.

Yup, if you score 1094 points overall, it is divided by 10 = 109.4, rounded down = 109, and goals and behinds come from that = 16.13.109

Nah not being used tonight since these games are at neutral venues.
Basically when it is in use the lowest scoring player from the home team gets his score doubled ;)

4 for me too, but no skipper ;)

The players played so far are Bachar Houli (72), Dan Hannebery (34), Jarryd Blair (97), and Brendan Whitecross (98). Obviously happy with Blair and Whitecross, but Houli and Hannebery let me down. Obviously Hannebery's lack of match fitness was an issue there, so was good that he played again a few days ago in the Syd reserves vs GWS reserves :)

Just looking at the squad you named PB and got me wondering whether you actually looked at squads when they were named on Thursday? Why did you name Buckley and Gysberts even though neither were named for their teams?

Also unfortunately I don't think Boyd and Hurn are going to get you back in this game, I'm currently 355 ahead with 5 left to play to your 7 ;) :P

1310 from 12, Embley, Gray and Jones to come :)
and by my calculations Maca is 1052 once you factor in Ibbotson's score for Hodge, unless he gets half points for him out of position?

Anyway, he's roughly 250-300 behind with Roo, Goddard and Gilbert to come. I'm feeling confident ;)

That's a very nice midfield MC :)
Turns out my midfield 5 did pretty well too (except Hannebery). My 5 were Ablett (139), Hartlett (134), Sloane (114), Cross (106), and Hanneberry (34)

As you can tell by my reserves score, my depth is very much being tested by a mass amount of injuries

Hey os, can the name of the South American Cup be changed? Just sounds a bit boring to me ;)

Obviously PB would have to agree as well, but what about something like The Rhythm Cup, in respect to the dance cultures of both countries, with the samba in Brazil and the Tango in Argentina :)

2 problems i picked alot of guys who are young and havent got a game and i have a truck load of injuries to key players.  In my deal with Macca i servely cripled my team for the short term but i will look ok long term. I desperately need Mundy and Schnieder back and grima going down really hurt my backline.

I have alot of guys for the future who didnt play like Omeara, Day, Longer etc.... and i somehow was able to pick every non play GWS guy. Short story I will strugle this year, but should be up and running next year.

Yeah fair enough then holz. Injuries can be a real dog! Turns out I only had 22 of my whole squad playing, which in reality isn't that many.

By the way ossie when will the other scores be posted? Want to see if I am the highest scoring team, by my calculations I got a handy 154 :)

When I get home I thinks! Been at training course all day

Btw, 22 is exactly the number of players each team should be having on average

So, one point off your projection CF! Will release all the individual scores soon :)
Hmm I wonder where I went wrong then. I had my score as 1,537 which I rounded up to 154, must have just given myself a few points here and there ;)

I had that also, but rounded it down  :-\
Ah no worries then ;)

Remember Round 1??

Well, thought it would be good to add MEDALS to the highest scoring player in the rivalry round.

I've named the medals after the most succesful player from that country. Some countries do not have any players, so only one player is named. Some medals are named after current players - none of whom actually play for the team they have international ties to!

JP KENNEDY wins the CUPIDO/SAAD MEDAL (Cape Town/Cairo)
N DAL SANTO wins the PRINGLE/KOOCHEW MEDAL (New Delhi/Beijing)
K TIPPETT wins the BELL MEDAL (Seoul/Tokyo - no players from Japan)
B STANTON wins the MYNOTT/KENNELLY MEDAL (London/Dublin)
L FRANKLIN wins the WEIDEMAN MEDAL (Berlin/PNL - no players from France)
T LIBERATORE wins the JESAULENKO/PYKE MEDAL (Moscow/New York)
S PENDLEBURY wins the PYKE MEDAL (Toronto - Mike Pyke mania!/Mexico City - no players from Mexico)
S BLACK wins the SCHWASS/NAITANUI MEDAL (Wellington/Pacific)
G ABLETT JNR wins the O'BRIEN MEDAL (Buenos Aires - no players/Sao Paulo)
