Title: Plenty Of Fizz Left In The Duff?
Post by: Windigo on February 16, 2012, 05:52:22 PM
I'm really thinking about having Duffield. Thinking about downgrading Heppell & getting Duff. Then I can upgrade Lake>Grimes.

Really my last swap around 'till after  NAB. But enough about that.  :P

Duffman has the second best kick in his category as a General Defender behind only Godd. He led the league in rebound 50's in 2010. That was his best season, averaging 89 and was was freo's "Mr Consistent."

Backed it up with a solid 87 in 2011, I had him and was disappointed with this return. Last year he was no where near at his best and looked to be in a different role.

With Rosco at the helm he will undoubtedly know  how to utilize his kicking ability as he did with Goddard for many years. Also, he is good enough to float through the mids, just like Goddard.

At 27 he still has years of scoring potential to go. Cheaply priced and a real possibility as a 4th defender if you go with 3 premiums. Could average the 90+ I hoped for a couple of years ago. Surely Lyon will want the ball in his hands. However he can get locked down as he so damaging.  :-\

Depending on the feedback I might get him in. My team is about set, but still not keen on Heppell really upping his average that much.

Watch NAB, if you have Fox that is. Hopefully he lines up at half back as as re-bounder/sweeper.  8)
Thoughts?  ;)

From what I've read/heard Fremantle seem to be playing Suban and Duffield as the designated kickers from defense (training and intra-club reports). Will be watching this weekend to see how they both go, but I've got Suban in my sights more than Duffman.

Just thought I'd add this:

"Looks like hes playing the “Jason Gram or Sam Fisher” role in Lyons Dockers. Played Half Back and it looked like they were trying to free either him or McPhee up in defence.

Used his pace to provide run and carry and pushed up to around half forward when his team had possession. If it was his turn to be the free man then he often got involved when they “switched” sides coming out of defense. In the second half when Broughton went into the midfield he moved onto Mayne and played deeper."

And this:

"Spent a bit more time watching Duffman than I but from what I saw he was loose in the back half for a lot of the game.  Picked up quite a bit of ball and could be one worth watching in the NAB.  Could really take the step forward we all thought was coming last year.  We all know Ross likes his rebounding slutty defenders."

44 DT points in intra club.

No worries!

There's this too, although it's a couple of weeks old (i.e. no intra-club info):

Haha, your probably correct there. But I'll post up my team before NAB. Then my final team after NAB. So basically last day before lockout I"ll have finished my team.  ::)

Same mate. I've locked him in also. I dunno whether a Duffield & Grimes combo will outscore a Heppell & Lake combo. But I'm hopeful that Duff_Man can have his best season to date of Lyon does what everyone expects and has him as a Fisher/Goddard type player.  :)

fingers crossed the Grimes/Duff combo does score more! What are you thoughts on Hargrave? I went with him insted of Lake originally.

I still think the Duff man will put one on this year and lift, hence the reason i've made the change :P

Can't play him, so horrible last year so you can't risk it.

I hope so!  :)

Hargrave is an interesting one.

When fit he should net 70's. That 90, IMO was a one off thing. Like Lake slaying at 100.

I think Lake has more potential to score more. But he is a full back, so there is a risk in that itself. Hargrave will be a solid scorer though.

Had a terrible year but so did Fremantle. Pav was no where near his best either. Duff could have been carrying injuries? Half the list was basically out. You just don't know. But for a guy that has so much potential you cannot help but take interest.

Yes twenty seconds is a long time. Last year in some games Duff and Pav did look out of sorts they avg was ok and thats it. I think we will see an improvement in both of them and a couple of others. Duff is nearly 60k cheaper then Broughton and in 2010 and in 2010 Duff avg 2 points less a game than him. I think im convincing myself but I am a Freo man.

Well and truly on the watch list. Easy my favourite Docker. Hope he tears it up as a cheper alternative for Shaw and as my new 3rd back.

didnt freo curb stomp essendon? colliwobs said that basically the ball wasn't in freos backline, when essendon scored it was more of hail mary passes rather than pushing for it :P

he put up a fair few points vs weagles didn't he?
