Guthrie was given a taste early in the season, making his debut in round 1 and finished with 13 disposals from his 90 minutes. He started the following week as a substitute, which remained his only other games for the year.

He developed his skills at VFL level, playing 16 games, averaging 18 disposals and four tackles per match. He was used across half back with his ball use a feature of his play, recording the second-best disposal efficiency of the top 10 ball-winners in the Cats VFL side. Guthrie ranked third at the club in handballs and marks and fifth in disposals and tackles.

FANTASY FREAKO SAYS: Expect him to get more opportunities in 2012. Could be a handy bench option

After a solid pre-season, Guthrie, who was an emergency for the big game against the Magpies, is particularly buoyant about his prospects for the campaign ahead.

"I've put on about seven kilos since I got to the club, so hopefully I can mix it with the big boys now," the 20-year-old from Sunbury told AFL.com.au.

CAMERON Guthrie, one of three Geelong emergencies to miss out on grand final day last year, says he is ready to demand a permanent place in the Cats' senior team in 2012.

This year, Geelong's coaching staff hope Guthrie will be on the next wave of young talent to make their mark, and the defender has identified the early rounds as the time to shine, with Menzel, Vardy and Dawson Simpson out injured.

not interested, had him last year & sweated all season on him getting a 3rd game so his price would go up-never happened, but seriously too many others at lower or just a little higher priced than him to consider
