I hope so as he is currently my 4th back. He was consistant in his first year so he should only get better.

2nd year rule?

5 to 10 points is still good, and 2nd year is just like choosing bad drivers, you look for the faults why it went wrong.

Of course you're not going to get as much money out of them, but an increase is better than a premium that falls, like most backmen did.

If he fits in your plans with the bye rounds, why not?

If Heppell averages 95+ he will be a Gem for any team.

Don't think Heppell has 95+ in him just yet, maybe 2013.  Then again, stranger things have happened.  The two big improvers at Essendon IMO might be Hibberd and Carlisle.

I am seriously looking at Hibberd.

for the money im taking heppell if they give him a similar role as last year he is only going to do better than last year which is good enough for the money, keeping in mind defenders are predicted to be average scorers again in 2012

Thanks to AFL BABBLE for the link, if my mind wasnt already made up it is now.

Does this even resemble the scrawny gangly though fit and effective kid that impressed us all so much last year?

How much difference will the extra muscle , core strength and fitness make in 2012?

Anyone thinking of changing thier minds on Heppell if they were ever a no?

Yeah Waters out Heppell in. He was always on the radar tho being a bombers supporter. If he can push his average another 5-10 ill be happy

I think he's something special and he's one of the players I'm most looking forward to seeing in 2012. He averaged just 2 points less than Joel Selwood did in his first season, but more importantly, he didn't seem to drop away in the second half of the season either.

Selwood's first season:

Heppell's first season:

I think I have a new man-crush.

After looking at Essendon's first 4 games of the season (and yes, how much he has bulked up!), Heppell became a lock for me. He looked so accomplished in his first season that I don't think 2nd year rule applies. He'll be playing that loose player in defence again, surely?

Heppell, just. Hawthorn have a tough start to the season.

heppell by a mile, don't like the way suckling finished the season, and Andrew s righ thawks do have a tough start, but more importantly for me i have Goddard and Delidio and Cocnca and Ellis, that already 4 on the round 13 bye, suckling is also round 13 bye, i plan on trading in ellis by then and i guess conca will be a donut if he ends up being a keeper and i still have him with goddard and delidio on the pine.

Heppell will slightly improve again this season. He has way too much class and ability to go backwards this year, particulaly with the additional preseason under his belt!

hopefully Essendon's lack of midfield talent doesn't mean he'll get a tag like Rich did after his 1st year :\

Jobe gets the tag. However he will eventually get the gillbee treatment soon. He won't just get a free rein to use his dangerous kick out of defense whenever he wants.
