SummaryInjured in the fifth minute of Round 1, Jason Porpylzia has been forced to watch the entire 2011 season from the sidelines. Suffering a dislocated shoulder, he required a full reconstruction which initially ruled him out for several months. While he returned to training with the main group in August, the decision was made to hold off his return until 2012.
His 2010 season was a very intriguing one at best. After kicking 57.20 the year prior (2009) and being labelled as 'one of the most dangerous forwards in the competition', the decision was made to move him into a midfield role. Unfortunately, IMO, it was of no benefit, in fact it was more of a failure. Hopefully Sanderson can see the mistake here and move him straight back to the forward line. :)
For your benefit, the comparison between 2009 and 2010 are shown below.
Comparison of 2009 and 2010
Stat (av. per game) | 2009 | 2010 |
Kicks | 8.6 | 8.4 |
Handballs | 5.8 | 6.4 |
Disposals | 14.4 | 14.8 |
Efficiency | 66.6 | 64.4 |
Contested Pos. | 6.8 | 6.2 |
Marks | 3.7 | 3.7 |
Goals/Behinds | 57.20 | 22.17 |
Score Assists | 26 | 15 |
SC Average | 87.0 | 70.6 |
A very interesting comparison indeed. No improvement except in the 0.4 more disposals per game. Even the number of contested possession dropped. Doesn't quite seem like a successful transition does it? :-\
The Crystal Ball
m0nty's Fanplanner has Porplyzia listed at the rookie price of $94,700. Surely it's a mistake? Other sites including tooserious.net are listing him at similar prices. Hmm...
Their reason: thanks to his one score of 13, multiply that by the magic number of ~5311 (current 2012 MN estimate) and take off a 30% discount, he has a price of ~$48,000. Of course this is unrealistic, so they've bumped it up to the rookie price.
Now, something tells me that this is not what will occur. IMO, I would think that Porplyzia's price might be a more realistic $262,500. (Take his 70.6 average from 2010, multiply it by the MN and then take off 30%).
My reason: players that miss an entire year of football ie. Anthony Morabito, Scott Gumbleton have a 40% discount taken off their respective (2010 average x MN) price. Otherwise they too would at rookie price.
As for his position, he is still listed as a forward, but with the amount of time he is getting in the midfield, he could also be a chance for a MID/FWD MPP listing.
Decision
Another 50/50 call for me. Even at $262k, it is a very attractive price, but if he is thrown into the midfield again, I don't think I'll take the bait. However if he is placed back into the forward line, then its very possible he could make the cut as my 5th or 6th forward line player. Time will tell.
Again, hopefully Sanderson can see the mistake in placing Porplyzia in the midfield and return him to the forward line. They may even win a few more games with him up forward....
Thoughts?
Will the price of Porplyzia impact your decision or have you already made up your mind?
50/50 for me at the moment. Doubt I will pick him up, too risky I think.
@ roo boys! I agree. If he is at $262k like what c4v3m4n said he would be way to risky for me. If he is rookie priced he is a 90% chance of making my team.
if they don't change anything, he should be rookie priced.
locked and loaded.
His shoulders are a bit worrying, and has only played the full season once. If he is at rookie price, he'll be a slight chance to get in my team, but definitely not at 200k and above
Can see him pulling a Nicoski, but with a much lower base starting price.
I'm always biased at the start of the year when it comes to picking Crows. More often than not they are not in my team end of year, but will be considering Porps depending on what price he gets...
Only if he's supercheap...a bit fragile in the shoulders.
Only if priced as a rookie.
50/50 for me to at present.
rookie priced i'd say locked.
obviously crows understood very early they weren't playing finals - i guess put him on ice no point in rolling the dice with him. obviously will have a good preseason as he has started very early but time will tell. like watching this guy, is a beautiful kick for goal!
@200k or so it would be a big 50/50, rookie priced lock!
the rumours ive heard arent great in regards to the state of his shoulder, but i hope he can get back on the park, and at a rookie price would definitely be worth a punt.
at 87k and playing round 1 you would be stupid not to have him on at least your bench. I think he will be 260k though.
if he is 110k or less and playing then i will get him otherwise i won't cause i don't want to risk it to much with his injuries

+1 if the price is right ,so common down
I'm just too worried that his shoulder will keep poping... :-\ If he was base price he would be in consideration, but otherwise, no.

at basement price, surely can't be as bad as lolRicho.
All depends on his price...@ basement price he's a lock for me.
he has proven that he cant keep up with his injury troubles, too dangerous for me
Thoughts on getting him this year.
His price is 229, 600
This years version of last years Chris Knights.
Stay away at all costs.
hes in my team, word is he is fit and firing... and looking at time in the centre..
had him 2 years ago, mr consistant!
i picked him up.. i think Adelaide will do well this year.
watch for nab cup form.
In my team at the moment, he's raring to go by the sounds of things. Even if he is this year's Chris Knights, he only has to play 6-8 games for his price to go up enough to be upgraded
im saving the 100k and getting a rookie!!!
The early exit last year scares me. I realise he's had his shoulder tightened. but shoulders pop to easy. Mind u he's a tempting price
