Hey all,
Yes, I have c4 have decided to join the world of FTP. I haven't been assigned a team yet, but I'd love some help/advice on getting started as I obviously have no clue what to do.
Thanks!
I'd suggest as it's EOS, worst time to buy GUNS. I'd go for Rel/Rel Primaries (Bowl or Bat and Tech) 20 y.o's who should go for less than 5k. Look for ones with at least Ordinary secondaries (Endurance, Power and Fielding). I like secondaries as they won't hurt your player's salaries as much as Primaries/Tech. Experience is good so advise going after players with Ordinary+ experience at 20 y.o. The older they are, the more experience you should look for in them. Although when I started out, I never took notice of experience.
Read through the game rules as well as it's a big help when first getting a grip on FTP.
i have a couple of them for you if interested. i put 2 wrist spinners on market and a FM
WELCOME C4!
Like HP said, but some 20 year olds at the moment for cheap to get you started :)
I've got 3 or 4 up at the moment.
It's so good C4. :)
I've also got some 20 year olds up for sale.
Good luck starting up.
Good luck C4. Its a great game if you give it some time. :)
Take your time, don't go buying players coz you like them. Learn the game, find the best combo's to be in your team, don't buy players for a price that is too much. Good Luck.
hey C4
great to have you on board mate ;)

My best advice would be to go young. I half did, half didnt. Now im finding it really tough :'(
Stock up on 20 yo then get 1 or 2 oldies to help em out. That's how I started.
Good luck mate I am sure you will do well
Thanks everyone for the info so far.
I haven't yet received an email about getting a team, how long does this usual take?

Gee that is surprising.
I reckon it will arrive in the next 24 hours.
It might be because of the EOS updates.
The EOS madness must have got to them :P. Should be soon but at least you'll be prepared.
On a side note, I'd avoid buying any new players for the next 2-3 days. Just my advice as you'll be spending quite a bit to get only a few players. Give it time and you'll get a solid starting lineup for little price. I'll help you out finding players if you wish :).
I'm also willing to help out C4 :D
Go to sleep BB!!!
Yeah go to sleep you guys :P. Alex, Boomz, Nails, MP and I are on chat if anybody wants.
Yippee!
SLEEP BB >:O
Sleep ??? ;D

check out the FTP thread Cookie, two new bowlers purchased... mebbe I should have waited, but happy with them.
i dont mind the fm you got and cheap as well good buy. maybe over the top for your wrist spinner in price but good players for your team. Now to strengthen your batting line-up

Haha. Hit the sack a little after I left chat anyway :P. 12:30 wake up for me :P.
Finally got the team!
Now what? ???
a few cheap players on the market is what you want mate
First I'd read through the game rules. Look around the site and see all the stuff (e.g Look at academy screen, transfer market and your team as well :P).
Hit the transfer market for some 20 y.o's in a bit. Try to spend less than 10k on each Rel/Rel player. Should get 6-7 Batters and 5-6 Bowlers. A good base to begin with I reckon. Most of your current team aren't that great (as with everybody's). Try to avoid looking into Youth players (16 to 19 years old) just yet as Seniors is where the income comes from :P.
Look for 20yr olds with at least capable primaries (preferably reliable) but try not to spend more than $10k on one player. To begin with you don't need absolute guns because you only need players who are good enough to make you competetive in the lower leagues.
Ok...
How much total money should I look at spending on new players?
What should I do with my current squad?
Fire your current players after you get some better players to replace them.
Cool, thanks Bazinga. :)
How much money do you have to begin with C4? Don't try to spend all of it so suggest try keeping at least 50k.
Reveal all your players (As a youth or two could be put up for sale for quite a bit). Looking at your team page now :P.
recruit a canadian youth play for first week please mate
I have over $300,000.

I have over $300,000.
And if you spend wisely, will only take 50k to get a solid team together for the time being 8).
Can't see him but for 1k, good start :P.
Yep id use 50-100K on your starting team (make sure their young)
Then pour the rest into academies.
Yeah! Okay, so from what I can gather....see if I have this right.
1. Find good cheap players that are only 20 years old.
2. Buy $50k worth of players.
3. For each player I buy, I must sack one from my list...
How many players can you have in your squad?
You need a minimum of 12 players. Fire all of you remaining youths (19 and under) until you have 12 remaining.
So basically you need to buy 11 or 12 20yr olds to build your senior squad up. When thats done and you learn more about the game you can start to make your team increasingly better.
If you can get this guy for less than $5k then go for him.

Minimum of 12 but I wouldn't go over 15 players in a senior squad just yet (waste of money on wages especially at the start). I learnt the hard way :P. But what Baz said is a good way to go. 1 in, 1 out 8).

Think Baz is trying to get you to cut down your wages. They don't cost alot so could keep them all if you want to. I love a Youth squad the size of 15-20 as it doesn't cost as much for the players but only if you are going to pay attention to them (many on here don't bother).
Just make sure you only have 12 youths. This saves wages for you to improve other areas.
We say this because seniors is where you will make money in the short term. Forget about your youths until you are happy with the way your senior squad and academies are.
Obviously this isn't a rule, and you can decide to play FTP however you wish. For me this is the easiest and quickest way to become competitive in FTP. Ultimately it is up to you ;)

I like having fun so built my Youths up from the start (buying 16/17 y.o's for less than 5k to help). Don't buy any now as they are going for crazy prices.
I like having a solid squad for all 3 SOD, T20 and YOD so that it adds another element into FTP lifestyle.
True Hp. Now that my SA has reached Lavish, the required maximum investment is lower, si I can afford to invest on improving++ into my youths. My YA is only at inadequate but hopefully with a pop every 5 weeks it can reach Lavish by the end of next season :)
How do I know who to fire?
I'm getting conflicting reports...for example:
http://www.fromthepavilion.org/player.htm?playerId=756432
Obviously, his skills are very poor, yet he has the one of the highest ranking of any player in my team. ???
You need to reveal your players skills C4. Go to office - preferences - reveal all player skills.

If this is one of the highest rating players in your squad, you need to completely rebuild. Like we said, you need to have a squad of at least capable/reliable primary skilled players to be competitive. This guy is about as bad a player that you could imagine for a 25yr old. Take a look at my squad and you will soon see the difference ...

If you pick up about 12 new players of reli/reli ability then this player should GO along with every other player in your senior squad - just fire them as no one will buy them and it costs $1000 to put them on the transfer market. You should be able to pick up Reliable/Reliable bowlers and batsman for under $5k each. Try and look for a keeper/batsman that have bat/tech/keeping of capable
Batsmen

lol I think I have it backwards. The higher the number in the ratings the better. :P ::)
Okay, I think I understand now.
Time to make a squad.
Hey C4 just looked at your youth squad to see if there was anyone worth selling. You could probably get a fair bit of money for Owen Bush since it is the very start of the season. I would advise selling him :)
C4, a suggestion I would do is list this fella up for 20k - Owen Bush (http://www.fromthepavilion.org/player.htm?playerId=756452). Has a great talent and decent skills to sell for 20-50k 8). Could keep him if you want to keep your Youth squad going :D. Also Chappell in your Youth squad is a nice Keeper if you are planning on following your youths 8).
CF beat me to it :P.
