Title: Interest in AEPL NEXT Season
Post by: CrowsFan on May 25, 2011, 07:46:03 PM
Ok guys I know that it is early and the season has just finished, but thought I would make this thread now to see what interest people have in doing this again. If we get enough interest early we can start discussing how we can improve the game and keep it entertaining considering half the people lost interest half way through this time.

So guys who wants to do this again? Also what improvements do you think are needed?

My main concern was how long the draft took. We need to get the draft finished before the season starts so that we get scores from all 38 weeks.

Yeah certainly didn't help you. Also you need to prove it was just a fluke you got the wooden spoon :P

Was thinking if we could get 10 people that would be great. This way you play each team 4 times then final 2 rounds are for finals. Although if we got 8 again that would also work

Cool that's already 5 in :)
Obviously we can't start it up again until the real fantasy one opens up so we know who is in what position and there have been some transfers etc so wont start again for probably 2 months

Sweet :)
I also assume andrew and zz will be in it again, which would take us to 8. Then would hopefully just need 2 more players

I must admit though CF, I fond it difficult after a while maintaining all the files. Whilst it only took me up to an hour each week, and was enjoyable to begin with, it became arduous and tedious towards the end.

I also found it very difficult when the January transfer window was happening, as I was having to add new players, etc.

If I'm going to be involved, I'd want to participate, but also get some help re keeping all the records up to date!!

I'm sure it was very hard fletch and we were all greatly appreciative of what you are doing.
I am more than happy to help if you want to keep doing the scoring. And obviously you participating would be great :)

I'll have to have a think about it. I have a staff member away on LSL during July and August, plus Financial Year end, so I will be quite busy....

Well if you just want to participate instead that would be great.
I am happy to take up the organisation side of the game with the scoring. I just feel it's only fair you get to participate next time after all the hard work you did this time

Thanks mate, it is pretty hard work to collate all the info, and keep a record of the YTD as well. If you look at the file I posted you can see in the Archive worksheet what team you all started with and how much it changed...

It's just difficult to upload 20 files into a spreadsheet every week as well as format, blah, blah, blah. What a whinger I am!! :D

If you want to use the file I created, I can assist in showing you how the steps necessary each week. Also, I am still happy to help, just with the extra workload I won't be able to commit as much.

I'd help as well if needed. Although you'd have to show me what to do as I suck at Excel :P.

You deserve to play this time around Fletch after all the hard work for the first season 8).

I'll be in this season :) :) Was too late to join last season, so would love to see how i fair up against everyone here :)

But someone will have to tell me how it all works though. If it's on the site or not. A draft you say?

But yea i'll join :)
Title: Re: Interest in AEPL NEXT Season

Yep. Like the AFL Dynasty draft currently going, there is a random selection for places for the picks. From then on, it's just simple selections. Just need to fill in a team including 2 Keepers, 5 defenders, 5 midfielders and 3 strikers (I think). Can choose in any order you want and it follows the scoring on the official premier league site stats.

Post by: Luigi197 on May 28, 2011, 01:25:51 PM
Oh ok. I understand. Yea i'll definitely do it.
Keep me posted on when we start.

Also who runs it all and is incharge of all the scoring? CF? Or do we have to find the stats ourselves?
And do the scores include player bonuses?
And there was trading between us yea?
Title: Re: Interest in AEPL NEXT Season
Post by: Justin Bieber on May 28, 2011, 02:30:07 PM
We are working on it Luigi but probably CF with some help. You can find your stats if you want to know your score or others but not neccesary.
Yep, bonuses included and even Home ground advantage when we play each other.
Trades yep, but limited to 2 per round during the season. Unlimited before season starts I'm pretty sure.

And it lives up to the hype if not more! Very entertaining last season as you could trade with other people, even DURING the draft itself! Man I traded alot before we even finished the draft :P.

Going for 10? Or think we could push the limit to 12 with enough interest?

i woudnt mind 12 but the free agents would b much much less
Title: Re: Interest in AEPL NEXT Season
Post by: CrowsFan on May 30, 2011, 09:51:29 PM
I'm thinking 12 would make it too hard, 10 seems to be the best number of participants in my mind.
With dylsta in that makes 10, but I'm sure andrew will also want to play. I think some people may not be able to play unfortunately, but was thinking that we could have a wait list and if people stop posting their teams (like it happened this year) they get replaced by someone who wanted to play. Does that sound fair or sound like I am excluding people?
Title: Re: Interest in AEPL NEXT Season

Well i was runner up and top scorer, so i wanna have another crack at the title!! :P

But i dont mind really CF, aslong as im playing aha...
Title: Re: Interest in AEPL NEXT Season
Post by: CrowsFan on May 30, 2011, 10:03:05 PM
Well the way I was thinking about working out who plays was people who did last year get to play again if they want. Unless they dropped out without a reason (so hawka you can play again since you had no internet), but the three teams who dropped out without a reason (Q, Benjy, Hilly) would be the lowest preference.
Really only seems fair that way...

So it pretty much works like SuperCoach pro?

You do your draft and get the right amount of players per position.
Then you can choose to do trades with other members or trade with un-chosen people in the Draft Pool?
Title: Re: Interest in AEPL NEXT Season
Post by: CrowsFan on May 31, 2011, 07:20:29 PM
Yep basically exactly the same. However in this you have a limit on how many trades you can do per round unlike SC Pro

Ok I've been thinking that it could work with 12 teams, however it is going to mean showertier teams for everyone involved as you will basically get 1 good player each.

With 12 teams you will play each team 3 times, which takes up 33 of the 38 rounds. Then for 4 of the rounds we will have a knockout cup with all teams involved, probably in rounds 8, 16, 24 and 32 or something like that. Then in round 38 you will play the team directly next to you to determine your final position, i.e 1v2, 3v4, 5v6, etc. That means instead of the people coming 4th being able to win the whole thing like this season only the teams coming 1st or 2nd will have a chance.

What do you think?
Title: Re: Interest in AEPL NEXT Season
Post by: Fletch74 on June 02, 2011, 01:30:30 PM
I personally think that for Rds 34-38 you should play finals.

A Top 8. The bottom 4 surrender their teams, and the Top 8 are allowed to take picks from the bottom 4 teams (mini-draft)

1v4, 2v3, 5v8, 6v7 - Week 1 - Two highest place winners from the Top 4 through to the prelim final's?

2 losers from Top 4 clash play winners from Mid 4 clash - Week 2

2 winners play winners from 1st Finals Round - Week 3

GF over 2 weeks - Week 4 & 5

So you're saying you combine the totals of round 37 and 38 to determine the winner? That's an interesting concept, will see what others think as well though cos I think it would be fun having a knockout cup cos then there will be 2 different winners :)

I will write up a post explaining exactly how the game works once we get closer to the start of the new season DG so don't worry if you don't understand something at the moment ;)

On another note Dylsta has de-activated his account so we are back down to 10 teams, although still expecting andrew to enter which would make 11 teams...

Ok well the official game should be opening any day now so that means drafting will soon get to start :)
Got 10 people expressing interest to play and they are:
Myself :)
hawka26
MajorLazer
BoredSaint
Hellopplz
Fletch
Chrisuzz
Luigi
DG
Cookie Monster

Andrew and Benjy also expressed interest but have not been seen for some time so wont be involved.
I am going to send a PM to the 10 (really 9, why would I send one to myself?) to see if they still want to play. Why wouldn't they, this is an awesome game! :)

In the coming days I will write up a post explaining all the rules and how the game works for those who did not play last year. Hopefully we will be able to start the draft this weekend :)
