Title: Rookies for next year???
Post by: elephants on June 27, 2010, 11:15:35 PM
i know this is very very premature but i am pumped for next years dream team edition. so....

does anyone know of any really gun looking players that should be picked up early in the draft?

i know of harley bennel and jack darling both "said" to be top 3 draft picks.

Pros will likely move this to the strategy thread sooner or later ;D.

Gotta get a few gold coast rookies. Also have my eye on Mitch Hallahan. Plays for the Stingrays and has been kicking goals like crazy past few weeks.

Otten on my radar as well 8).
Title: Re: Rookies for next year???
Post by: roo boys! on June 29, 2010, 07:04:57 PM
Sure enough, moved to the Strategy board. ;D

Gold Coast rookies will be good looking at, I know one personally Josh Toy, he is a gun and has a booming kick too. I remember watching him in school when he was in grade 5 playing foot at lunch time. Very funny to watch him dominate

Also keep an eye out this year for some of their VFL matches. Can find a few decent rookies this way as well. Sometimes the NAB cup can be deceiving ;).

Bennell wins Larke Medal for best player at U/18 champs. Will definitely be in my team. Might get MMP as a mid/fwd as well.
Though Jack Watts also won the same award and hasn't exactly had an immediate impact...

I would be very tempted as well, but he just won't be able to keep up with the AFL, he can't keep up with the VFL already!

But if Bombers end up getting their supposed rugby recruit then that's a different story..

Only 18 top 5 draft picks have tasted premiership glory and only 3 number 1's have lifted the cup.

Maybe we should be looking at rookies outside the 1st round picks?

okay i like your research mcrooster. i am thinking that i wont be grabbong the first draft pick unless they are on my already formed list of players to get. also this is probably because winning a premeirship is a team thing and 1st draft picks go to the team with the wooden spoon so you wouldnt expect them to be wininning premierships would you?

Haha lol Zz, I nominate you for tool of the week. :D

I won't be HP, I don't look into those sorts of stats, if those two are picked first then still get them! They will still be the same person no matter when they get picked.

is there going to be any benefit for rookies being picked by GC ??  or will it actually be worse for them ??

team will be totally fresh, and so many players trying to make a name for themselves, maybe the rookies won't get as much of a go at GC as the few rookies that the established teams might get?

maybe of course, exactly the opposite...??

any ideas??

bundyboy, I reckon it would be better for the rookies at GC becuase most of the team would be rookies so the only need 1 good game to really cement their spot in the team.

SA WIN U16 CHAMPS
South Australia has claimed the Division 1 title at the NAB AFL Under-16 Championships despite a three-point loss to Vic Country on Friday.

SA finished with the same 2-1 record as Western Australia, but claimed the championship on countback by virtue of its win over WA on Tuesday.

Vic Country's Corie Intveen and Nicholas Tuddenham were among their side's best in a performance that delighted coach Garry Lyon, while Nick Amato and Jack Viney shone for SA.

Vic Country 9.7 (61) def South Australia 7.16 (58)

Only 18 top 5 draft picks have tasted premiership glory and only 3 number 1's have lifted the cup.

Maybe we should be looking at rookies outside the 1st round picks?
good research, but useless in this concept
DT only lasts for a year and has no real affect on the AFL finals
bastinac, martin, trengove, scully all high draft picks in teams that will go no where near to winning a premiership this year, but that doesnt mean theyve not had fantastic years in DT

Sam Day, Harley Bennell, Dion Prestia, Tom Liberatore are who I am currently thinking of getting in my side.. although Sam Day has heaps of talent he may do a Jack Watts and take ages to develop.. but dont all big men??

yeh i think ben griffiths showed us this year how good kpp rookies are with a few 20s in his scores and the ability to go down from a rookie price

Matera at GC, son of Wally.
Quoted by Scott Clayton (GC list manager) as saying "knows which blade of grass the ball is going to land on".. "great anticipation".."elusive".
Is ready to play straight away like "D. Swallow, inside, tough, big enough to go" "Swallow now has had  2 pre seasons, which is what it takes to get a young body AFL ready".

Hopefully next year one of my early rookie choices goes unnoticed :D. This year had Nason booked in late last year. Come a week before round 1, everybody jumps on him ::).

With the Bye coming in, might get in a few more rookies to fill the benches + on field. Then get durable guys on field from the start + some up and comers. Mids will almost be stacked like this year. Hopefully Matera is named up forward to give us some options :).

i think Benell, Ah Chee and Sam Day will all be very good in 2011, also i would consider Jed Adcock and Fev who is back from injury and poor form. THey will be very cheap, as well as roo and JBrown.
Check out the AFL's draft reports they show all the great players from the u/18s tournment..
