AAP Alliance (iZander) | EurAsia (Jukes/Torp) | Melbourne Cricket Ground | 3 v 8 |
The season has been boiling up to our most memorable annual fixture, but hold onto your hats because we're doing it different this time around.
The AFL's introduction of 'AFL Gather Round' has added a new dimension to our epic clash! Instead of having 1 game over 2 weekends... we'll have a 'best of 2' games over the next 3 weekends!
The rules: - We have a best of 2 games series, where in the event of a tie, the highest combined score wins. If that is also the same, the highest individual team score wins.
- Game 1
MUST use entirely different players to Game 2, and vice versa. There can be no crossover whatsoever. Coaches must co-ordinate with each other WHO will be using WHICH players.
- The highest ranking coach of AAP will go against the highest ranking coach of EurAsia in Game 1. The second highest ranking coaches of each team will clash in Game 2.
- A rolling lockout, traditional team format, 4 emergencies no restings.
- You are able to tag, but you can only nominate a tagger and taggee with non-locked players.
- Loopholing in all forms is permitted.
This contest has been getting seriously hot in recent years. I encourage everyone to have a look at last years report (https://www.fanfooty.com.au/forum/index.php?topic=114519.msg2025565#msg2025565) just to get a sense at how tight these games get. EurAsia - predictably - has been DOMINATING the Alliance for quite some time, winning 7 of the past 8 fixtures with a ROB-sized blip occurring in 2019.
If it weren't for the clear amount of hurt AAP coaches feel, I fear this contest may have fizzled out by now.
Fortunately for EurAsia, the depths of AAP sorrow is bottomless, and 2021 champion JB has jumped at the chance to take them down again. He will be following new EurAsia coaches Jukes/Torp, whom take on 2022 bridesmaid iZander in Game 1.
AAP have called upon it's only active champion to 'try' and take down JB, but FTC might not have ROB available to bail him out this time, with iZ undoubtedly learning his lesson from last year and will put him straight in (as he would have been the difference yet again if selected in 2022).

After 6 AFL teams..
EurAsia in trouble.
AAP have lucked out with a fkn MAMMOTH performance from Pacific's Tex Walker, as well as teammate Rory Laird's 156 destined to be VC loopholed. Even Tim Taranto has come to the party, and flowerING ROB strikes again from the bench.
791 from 5 that is. shower.
In response, EurAsia is... doing just OK, with now discernibly great performances so far (harsh on Butters and Rankine). The English VC - whilst a good choice - hasn't worked out, and Houston has bloody killed us. Look, it's not over, but christ, the momentum is fiercely with the Alliance at this stage.
Need a response.

iZander has missed a couple in Shai Bolton (151) and Nick Vlastuin (141), but FTC will be able to pick them next week at least.
Similarly, Tom Liberatore (139) produced the kinds of score EurAsia needs at the moment... the only EurAsian in the top 11 scorers so far in the entire pool.
This is hard to watch.
Or is AAP spending all their fuel tickets in Week 1?
Up next... Goldy needs to wind back the clock for EurAsia. Coming up against the likes of Briggs... we could very well see it.
Toby Greene is surely due for a quiet game, whilst Ziebell awaits from the bench. Keep it a contest GWS - stop the Ziegull.
AAP master race
After 10 AFL teamsIt's gone from bad to worse for EurAsia.
Goldstein needed to do more than 92, and Cripps needed to do WAAY more than stupid 58. What are you doing man?
Although EurAsia got a break with Green going 88 and Walsh going 93, Adam Cerra popped off with 132. EurAsia need to aim at minimising the gap now - and finish below 200 in deficit to give JB any chance to mount a comeback.
And it starts with a Daicos special on the big stage today.

After 12 AFL teamsExcellent decision to resist calls to captain Daicos, and removing the would-be 88 from Darcy Moore from the field. Daicos was solid (118), but more is needed.
Petracca (95) was fairly subdued for AAP at least.

After 15 AFL teamsEurAsia have commenced the comeback! The switch to Lachie Neale as captain got a few extra valuable points, and he certainly delivered the captains knock we needed. Granted, Dunkley would have been good to have on field too... but he'll no doubt front up for JBs side.
For AAP, Stewart was only solid with 91... continuing a little bit of a 'slow-down' for AAP. I had them pegged for 190+... anything less would be disappointing I reckon, and give JB a real sniff rally the troops.

AAP Walkered All Over EurAsiaIn a mighty display of deft loopholing selections, AAP were able to put this clash to bed quite early thanks to Adelaide trio Taylor Walker (mammoth 208), EurAsia's thorn Reilly O'Brien (135) and eventual captain Rory Laird (156). From that point, EurAsia was able to close the gap, but iZander was always claiming victory and sweet revenge in comprehensive 186 to 169 victory.
JB not only has to win now... but by 175SC points or more, for EurAsia to take out the series. Amazing work iZ, and excellent selections Jukes to close the gap.
