Title: RoughReds Training Run
Post by: RoughRed on February 24, 2021, 11:28:38 PM
Sending my team out for its1st training run.
Not all the jumpers have been given out yet but...

B: Lloyd, Laird, Williams , Duggan, xx, xx, (xx, xx)
M: Neale, Oliver, Brayshaw, Walsh, Hately, xx, xx, xx (xx, xx)
R: Gawn, Grundy, (xx)
F: Dunkley, Bolton, Rozee, Impey, xx, xx (xx, xx)

Cash on hand $150k to $240k depending on Rooks

Backs, Lloyd plus 3 backs primed to run through the mids. Rooks in consideration include Jones, Wehr, Highmore, Bianco, Fyfe, Gould plus Heppell

Mids: 2 true guns Neale and Oliver plus emerging players Brayshaw, Walsh and potential bolter, Hately,
Rooks Powell, Robinson, Valente, Smith, Macrae

Rucks: GG following Preuss, Marshall falling down. Rooks under the 'scope are Flynn, Treacy and Meek

Forwards: the weakest line, Dunkley a gun plus potential breakouts Bolton and Rozee, potential keeper in Impey. Rayner, Danger, Daniher in the range. Rooks Durbin, Hutchesson, Cockatoo

Potential 14 keepers ...(he's dreaming)

Very good start, nearly same as mine, just Cripps for Rozee

Rehash following the weekends frolics
working on a"team on the field" approach with option to go more G'n'R depending on selections

B: Lloyd, Laird, Williams, Duggan, Young, Jones (Highmore/Fyfe)

M: Neale, Oliver, ABrayshaw, Walsh, TGreen, Caldwell, ESmith, CDownie (FMacrae, Gulden, Bianco)

R: Gawn, Grundy (Meek)

F: Dunkley, Ryan, Daniher, Impey, Bergman, Durbin (Treacy, Henry)

Cash 39.7K

Backs: Loaded up with Laird, Williams and Duggan all looking at mid time this year. Played with dropping Lloyd to Mills (may still happen) which would give another 100K plus but it cost me not having the seagull from the start last season. Keeping an eye on Chugg and Wehr

Mids: Have gone to absolute guns, 2 emerging guns and 2 possible breakouts as my core. Again depending on selection have Green+Caldwell+Duggan dropping out for Danger+JClark+Def Rook.

Rucks: GG plus Meek or Flynn with Treacy as a backup

Forwards: Weakest line and most problematic. Not sold on Martin early in the season and gone off Bolton. Still watching Rozee but worried about the "hot" foot. Ryan looks like attending CB for WCE and showed late last season what he could do round the middle from R12. Rayner also in consideration

This team is banking on lots of break-out  ::)

Reckon 12 solid keepers

M: Oliver, Merrett, Brayshaw, Walsh, Green, Caldwell, Smith, Downie (Powell, Gulden, Scott)

Team 2 looks better with Lloyd in that's for sure.

Some interesting POD's like Brayshaw. Do you think he can finish top 8-12? He would have to outscore or get ballpark to guys like Neale, Oliver, Fyfe, Macrae, Bont etc.

Interesting mid structure with Brayshaw and Walsh but you have to take risks to get the candy.

Obviously Team 2 with Lloyd fit preferred

B: Laird, Daniel, Stewart, Short, Clark, Kosi (Sharp, Highmore)

M: Oliver, Merrett, Dangerfield, ABrayshaw, Walsh, Powell, Brookman, Gulden (Berry, Scott, ESmith)

R: GG (Flynn)

F: Dunkley, Caldwell, Ziebell, Impey, Campbell, Bergman (Fullaton, Rowe)

Captain decision  Gawn => Merrett (if need be) or ..... spend the balance of my $ and go Oliver => Neale
I am banking on Caldwell living up to his hype rather over the Daniher and his hype :)
Rooks on the field is a serious decision and I will be keeping ESmith at this stage

R1: 2124
Rank: 3799

B: Laird, Daniel, Stewart, Short, Clark, Highmore (Sharp, Kosi)

M: Oliver, Merrett, Dangerfield, ABrayshaw, Walsh, Powell, Brookman, Gulden (Berry, Scott, ESmith)

R: GG (Flynn)

F: Dunkley, Caldwell, Ziebell, Daniher, Campbell, Rowe (Fullaton, Bergman)

Cash: $40.7k

Reasonably happy with the result. Kept ESmith (not named) rather than swapping to Jordan. Nearly spent coin on going to Neale for captain coverage with Gawn, kept Walsh rather than taking Rowell (touch and go there)

Question is what to do with Dangerfield. Even if 2 weeks coverage is limited and the risk of a rook fail is too high for me, so who to trade?

TMitch is in the frame as is Macrae, TKelly is tempting and of course McGrath

I feel Danger to Dusty is going to be pretty popular for those that don't have him. You could also grab Mills or Ridley using Laird's DPP.

Yes I had a look at that - could have my backs finished early once Sharp is cooked :)
Liking the Tmitch/Macrae options more especially with coverage in the R14 byes
Probably Tmitch on the $$
Dusty historically has been such a roller-coaster (especially when he comes into my team) so I see him more as a later season upgrade - I would prefer to settle early with someone boring churning out regular 110+  ;D ;D

Titch is a super safe pick & may not be this cheap again, he's also a great pick with the byes in mind.

Good setup poor completion
Traded in Mitchell last week
Kept changing Captains Gawn/Mitchell/Dunkley => Took Mitchell - no viable loophole son 218 it is!
Scott and Rowe on the field, plus poor outing by Daniel and Stewart and Caldwell with a hamstring
Scored ok considering

Trades:
ESmith => Jordan
Caldwell => Walker
Thought about holding Caldwell for the loophole this week Dunkley to Gawn!

Cash: $93K

Your off to a solid start, i'd pull the trigger on both trades, something has to go seriously wrong for gawn not to score 150 against the giants if they dish up the same rubbish they did this week.

Happy to see a close game ... so long as Gawn hits 140+

Very pleased with my two trades last week ESmith => Jordan and Caldwell => Walker

Good: Gawn :D, Grundy :D, Ziebell :D, Dunkley :D, Walker :D, Walsh Merritt, Flynn
Neutral: Laird, Daniel, Stewart, Clark, Gulden Daniher
Ugly: Oliver, Mitchell, Brayshaw and rooks under 60  :o

Very disappointed with Oliver Mitchell and Brayshaw - collectively over 100points down on my expectations.
Had a good runh with the rookie scores to date so can not complain too much but to have them all fall over at once was a bit hard to swallow
I have 13 players with negative BE's so do not see a real need to trade this week, subject to teams
Koschitzke and Fullaton will be watched with Park under consideration and Fullaton => Impey also a possibility,

Trades:
Nil at this stage

Wow talk about an epic fail on  trades Daniel > Ridley and Daniher > Waterman, then copped the Clark donut

Trades:
Need players in the backline who actually get onto the ground
At least Geelong play early in the round and i can see what happens with Clark
Ridley will be a solid captain this week VC Gawn > Grundy
Hoping that both Highmore and Sharp get up
Need a combined $80K increase from 2 rooks to convert one to Neale next week

Cash: $118.4K
Trades left: 24

i made the exact same trades and feel equally as stupid.

probably doesn't help?

Ridley is worth it - long run.

Seems like we both need two rookie defenders..... and you thought last weeks trades were bad :)

Pick the right ones - it will all work out just fine.

Ridley in was not a bad move. You can't expect a guy to get concussed. It was the right move bringing him in under the circumstances.

This trade may not pocket you a lot of cash but I feel it fixes your structural issue. Fullarton>Jones using Scott and Sharp. Jones will earn a bit of coin and should slot into defence nicely. The issue is we don't know if he will play until Saturday night. He played well enough, he just looked a bit battered by the end of the game.

B: Ridley, Laird, Stewart, Short, Chapman, Mansell (Highmore, Sharp)

M: Oliver, Merrett, Mitchell, Brayshaw, Walsh, Neale, Powell, Jordan, (Berry, Campbell,  Brockman)

R: GG (Flynn)

F: Dunkley, Taylor, Ziebell, Rowe, Scott, Bergman (Waterman, Fullaton)

Another epic fail on trades
Clark +> Mansell and Gulden > Neale

Donut with no cover for Ridley - trading Kosi is really hurting now
Dunkley and Neale hurt even more

Trades:
Really not sure
maybe grab some cash by picking up two bubbly rooks
Tempted to go Marshall but will be strong and wait a week
Thinking about pushing Laird to the mids and taking a performing Back
Or Pick up Macrae x 2 - one fop the mids one for the fwds

Title: Re: RoughReds Training Run

Dunks to any of Sidebottom/Marshall/Zorko. Basically whatever gives you enough cash to turn Neale into Macrae.
Title: Re: RoughReds Training Run
Post by: Ringo on April 27, 2021, 01:52:06 PM
So you need 90k to turn Neale to Macrae and you have $45k to assist

Dunkley to Marshall netts $77k However would prefer to see again and also how he fits with Ryder back.
Dunkley to Sidebottom netts $141k
Dunkley to Zorko netts $149k

I would take either of Sidebottom or Zorko.

Keep cycling back to the Macrae + Sidebottom/Zorko pick
Need at least one of the power dogs in the team

Sidey vs Zorko (this week's great debate)

Personally think Zorko but Sidey could make a fool of me, here's my reasoming:

*Neale going down should increase Zorko's midfield time & centre square attendances, I'd add 10 points to average based on this alone.
*The tag shouldn't be a deal breaker given McCluggage is just as likely & probably more susceptible to heavy attention.
*Form is definitely in Zorko's corner, 4 tons & coaches votes last week versus Sidey's 8 clanger game (looks well below his best)
*Brisbane will win more matches & this always impacts on the points allocation

In Sidey's favour is a relatively easy run over the next few weeks, Kangas coming up after Gold Coast which should guarantee a decent score.

In any case, both picks are solid 90+ selections & it may turn out that both players find themselves in my team. Marshall another to consider but maybe next week.

Sidebottom has been one of my favourite 2nd tier players
Has a massive upside
Could be settling back into a SC friendly roll at Collingwood
BUT
He is 30, had hamstring issues and the dreaded calf injuries that seem to appear magically after passing 29
Zorko is the same age, has the same profile but seems to have better resilience
IMO Zorko over Sidebottom

Round 7: 2,021
Round Rank: 14,471
Season Rank:  8,762 (improved 1475 ... amazing)
Leagues: 3/5
Trades Left: 20
Cash: $104.4K

B: Ridley, Laird, Stewart, Short, Chapman, Mansell (Highmore, Sharp)

M: Macrae, Oliver, Merrett, Mitchell, Brayshaw, Walsh, Powell, Jordan, (Berry, Campbell,  Brockman)

R: GG (Flynn)

F:  Zorko, Taylor, Ziebell, Rowe, Scott, Bergman (Waterman, Fullaton)

Captained Gawn after Macrae scored only 107  ::)
Backs were fair
Mid performed well ... at least my young guns did
Forwards were a nightmare overall with Tex finally did what Tex does ... so sad

Trades:
Only One
Chapman => Frederick which will give me $230.7K cash at bank
Played round with trading Campbell to May shifting Laird to mids but I will wait an see what selections throw up
Forward line needs more planning so will probably hold
Highmore needs to get a game as does Flynn and Waterman
Title: Re: RoughReds Training Run
Post by: Mat0369 on May 03, 2021, 06:34:17 PM
Can you look at maybe turning Berry into Frederick through Sharp and then upgrading Chapman to a premium?
Title: Re: RoughReds Training Run
Post by: RoughRed on May 03, 2021, 10:31:21 PM
Looked at that
If I go say Berry to Frederick and Chapman to May that leaves me with no mid cover
And I have spent all my cash,
Backline looks good but Fwds still a mess
One option Laird to mids via Sharp put Jordon on the bench as mid cover
Then hoping mansell and/or highmore are named
At least mansell is Friday night so if named I will loop with Sharp while hoping highmore plays
Prefer to hold a trade and see if I can pick Marshall next week
Am thinking Campbell to RCD or Poulter
Rowe to Marshall, maybe
Hoping Rowe has a rest this week

Grimes out means Mansell probably gets another crack, even with Vlastuin back. Reckon the changes will be Vlastuin, Dusty for Cotch & Grimes.

Round 7: 2,144
Round Rank: 24,047

Leagues: 1/5
Trades Left: 19
Cash: $230.7K

B: Ridley, Laird, Stewart, Short, Murphy, Mansell (Highmore, Sharp)

M: Macrae, Oliver, Merrett, Mitchell, Brayshaw, Walsh, Powell, Jordan, (Berry, Campbell,  Brockman)

R: GG (Flynn)

F:  Zorko, Taylor, Ziebell, Rowe, Scott, Bergman (Waterman, Fullaton)

Tried Macrae > Gawn his week after last weeks Gawn fail cost me 3 leagues!
Went Chapman to Frederick then reversed out and took Murphy
Gave Tex one more week as i was just short on getting Bolton.
My Walsh/Brayshaw emerging gun combination hit a wall as well
Overall thought i was on track for 2300+ but footy gods are cruel

Trades:
Tex to Bolton most likely, Marshall also under consideration
Wait and see on the Murphy concussion situation
Definitely holding Powell (playing) plus low BE rookies Jordon, Rowe Bergman and Scott.
Holding deadwood Sharp (was to be my loop captain anyway), Campbell, Brockman, Fullaton and Waterman as I have no choice
Highmore needs to get a game (as does Flynn and Waterman)
Lots of planning but Thursday night teams will be the decider

Tex to Marshall with the Bolton injury news seems solid. Something else you could do is turn Flynn into Poulter using DPP and Fullarton.
