Title: BXVs Grand Final Team Lodgement and Banter
Post by: GoLions on August 14, 2018, 11:06:40 PM
The BXVs Grand Final is upon us! After a fantastic 2018 season, which saw a frantic finish to who even qualified for finals, we are now down to just the two teams; the Winchester Werewolves, who have been up the top end of the ladder for many years now, but with not a lot to show for it. And the Staines Steins, who managed to pull off an upset against the Dragons last week to get themselves into the GF, with some really good scoring over the last couple weeks. Josh Kelly is in doubt to feature for the Steins, which would be a huge blow to their premiership chances. Max Gawn is also not 100% fit, and they really need a big one from him, considering the firepower the Werewolves have. And star forward Jesse Hogan has been ruled out of the season this week as well, which could see Brayden Sier get an opportunity to star as a utility (fml why did I trade this kid). But of course, this kind of thing has happened to the Werewolves year after year, and this year has been no exception. Sicily injured, Dahlhaus injured, and they have been missing Fyfe, Hibberd, and last week Roughy as well. But, those latter 3 could all be returning this week, which would be a massive boost for them, particularly Fyfe. If he returns and performs anywhere near his best, it's hard to see the Werewolves losing this one, especially if Kelly misses alongside Hogan. BUT, the Steins showed only 2 weeks ago how high they can score with a huge 2800+, so even without Kelly they will be capable of going big. In saying that though, I'll be tipping the lads from Winchester!

And for our consolation finals, we have the Badgers, who just missed out on making the top 8 finals on HGA, coming up against last years' premiers, the Leeches. Should be a great match between these two teams, who will be looking to re-enter finals in 2019. Badgers to win though ;)

Remember, there is NO HGA IN THE GRAND FINAL. Good luck to all teams involved!

Lewis Taylor could be a two-time BXVs premiership player by the end of the weekend!  :o

Good luck guys. Hard to see the wolves losing it with some of the team changes.

Can’t say I’m that confident :-\

Expecting 200+ from Grundy when Ryder pulls out of the team and worried Hewett will tag Whitfield with Kelly out. Zorko probably to cop a tag and Fyfe rusty first game back

Picked the wrong one out of Myers and Zaharakis :-\

Not gonna lie, I was kinda surprised you picked Myers over Zaka.

My logic was Myers has scored 180+ in 3 out of his last 5 including 228 last week and Zaka had gone below 100 the last 2 weeks.

Looks like it could cost me. Going to need a massive one from Cripps :-\

Over now I reckon. Seems as if I’m destined to never win one of these titles.

Congrats on winning the Cup Nas! Deserved victory. The Steins peaked at the right time (I think you outscored us every week of the finals).

You join the illustrious list of teams who have beaten us in Grand Finals ;)

Edit: also thanks to Ringo and GL for continuing the run the Comp :)

I can trade you the premiership for any combination of Nank, Fyfe, Whitfield, Crippa and/or Toby Mac if you really want.

Thanks Rusty, thought with a few outs might be on the wrong end but the team stood strong. Feel that more sooner than later you will win the Cup.

Special thanks to Ringo & GL for the running of this comp.

Commiserations also to the other teams & also for the banter throughout the season.

Thanks all.

A big congratulations to nas for winning the 2018 BXVs Premiership! Finding form when it mattered, the Steins were dominant throughout the finals series, and thoroughly deserve to take out the title this year, and those of you who doubted them can eat grass tbh! To Rusty, once again, just falling short on the big day. Hibberd injured for a chunk of the game, a number of players under-performing, it just wasn't to be. But year after year you've been one of the most competitive teams in the comp, and shouldn't feel too disappointed! I'm sure you'll be thereabouts again next year.

*Leeches scored 1846

And for our consolation finalists, congratulations to GoLions, with the Badgers getting over the line against the Leeches, coached by Hawka in his first season in BXVs. Both teams will definitely be looking to break into finals for 2019, so look out all. The Badgers ended up getting knocked out of the top 8 in the last round of the year to the Steins, on HGA...what could have been  :-X
